Update 2: Solis supports Card Check…PEBO selects Hilda Solis D-CA for Labor Secretary…

Update Friday, 9:32 am: FOX reports Solis supports Card Check (Employee Free Choice Act). This may be a battle at her confirmation. Interestingly, HotAir noted yesterday that Al Sharpton is AGAINST Card Check..should be a lot of fireworks when these confirmation hearings get underway..PS Did everyone hear that Interior pick Salazar ALSO has that pesky Emoluments issue?? Yes, so if the CDS filled lozers want to block Hillary they need to block the Saxbe fix legality for Salazar too…were I they, I would pick my battles and take on the Card Check issue….
Update: 5:12pm EST: Reuters has it up now..
Congresswoman Solis site here, live video of her at work in the House opens when you go to site..
First elected in 2000, Congresswoman Hilda L. Solis is serving her fourth term in the U.S. House of Representatives. She represents California’s 32nd Congressional District, which includes portions of East Los Angeles and the San Gabriel Valley. Prior to her election to Congress, Solis served eight years in the California state legislature. In August 2000, Solis became the first woman to receive the John F. Kennedy Profile in Courage Award for her pioneering work on environmental justice issues in California. (the Kennedy connection!! lol)
In 2003, she became the first Latina appointed to the powerful Committee on Energy and Commerce where she is the Vice Chair of the Environment and Hazardous Materials Subcommittee and a member of the Health and Telecommunications Subcommittees. She is also a member of the House Committee on Natural Resources. In March 2007, Solis was named a member of the newly created House Select Committee on Energy Independence and Global Warming.
Solis is Vice Chair of the Democratic Steering & Policy Committee and serves as a Senior Whip, as well as a Regional Whip for Southern California. She is also serving her third term as the Chair of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus’ Task Force on Health and the Environment.
In 2007, Solis was appointed to the Commission on Security and Cooperation in Europe, as well as the Mexico – United States Interparliamentary Group.
The Congresswoman’s office issued this press release yesterday on changes to the foreign worker visa program:
Washington, D.C. - Congresswoman Hilda L. Solis (D-CA) issued the following statement in regard to the recent changes made to the H-2A guest worker program by the U.S. Department of Labor. These include changes in the wage scales, rules to recruit foreign workers and reductions in worker protections.
“With many families already burdened by this bad economy, our nation cannot afford these guest worker program changes. This recent action by the Bush administration is just the latest example of how out of touch the president is with working families, especially with Latino families that make up a large portion of the farm workers in this country.
“There is no question that the guest worker program needs significant overhaul but slashing wages and reducing basic rights for the most vulnerable workers in our country, especially hardworking Latino farm workers, is not the answer. I look forward to working with the Obama administration and the Democratic majority to find the best solutions to strengthen this workforce and protections afforded to them.”
And I have found, once again, the ephemeral bball connection.…
“The “A” Game Fundamentals Basketball Clinic was founded by Coach Rodney Jefferson in 2000 to fill a void in the community.”
Rep. Solis was endorsed by the Hispanic Caucus this month.
