8:42 pm EST: More bad news in exit polls for Obama and Dems, (AP of all places!, read it before the WH twists arms for a ‘correction’ or  an ‘edit’ lol):

(…) Independents — the crown jewel of elections because they often determine outcomes — were a critical part of the diverse coalition that carried the president to victory in Virginia and across the country. But after more than a year of recession, still early in Obama’s term, they fled from Democrats in a state where the economy trumped all. And exit polls indicated they were doing the same in New Jersey.

The Associated Press exit polls showed that nearly a third of voters in Virginia described themselves as independents on Tuesday, and nearly as many in New Jersey did. They preferred McDonnell by almost a 2-1 margin over Deeds in Virginia, and Christie over Corzine by a similar margin — one year after breaking heavily toward Obama in both states.

The surveys also suggested the Democrats had difficulty turning out their base, including the swarms of first-time minority and youth voters whom Obama attracted as part of his coalition. The Virginia electorate was whiter in 2009 than it was in 2008, when blacks and Hispanics turned out in droves to elect the country’s first black president….

Note: So much for the Dem NEW COALITION Donna Brazille said she they did not need we pesky women and blue collar types,( on CNN during our Dem primaries). she had intellectuals and people of color she claimed that was all she needed to win and even Paul Begala said that was crazy.. It was the Dems who narrowed their tent, and left the Big Dawg moderate economic pro capitalism, GROW the pie policies I embraced in my 20s with the Clinton Administration and a great economic expansion and welfare reform. That model is only available to me on the GOP side of the aisle now and thus, that is where I am voting.

8:16pm EST: ABC Analysis of exit polling from NJ and VA:

(…)Perhaps most striking – though simply confirmatory of national polls – were views on the economy. A vast 90 percent in New Jersey and 85 percent in Virginia said they’re worried about the direction of the nation’s economy in the next year; majorities, 55 percent and 53 percent, respectively, said they’re “very” worried about it.

In Virginia, voters who expressed the highest levels of economic concern supported McDonnell by a very wide margin, 73-26 percent. Moreover, 46 percent called the economy the single top issue in their vote, far and away No.1, and those economy voters favored McDonnell over Deeds by a 10-point margin in preliminary results. (An additional 14 percent called taxes their top issue – and those voters went for McDonnell by a far broader margin.)…

7:56 PM NBC CALLS IT!! VA CALLED FOR MCDONNELL! (NJ polls close in 4 mins lol)

1 down, 2 to go! Yay!
