NABE Economic Forecast – calls for job growth in 2Q 2010
Update: The NABE forecast expects the 7 million jobs lost to date will not be restored until 2012, even if they are counting the 1 million temporary census jobs in their 2Q ’10 Job Growth, I think the Dems are cooked :
WSJ: …While the recovery has been jobless so far, that should soon change. Within the next few months, companies should be adding instead of cutting jobs,” said NABE President Lynn Reaser. According to the survey conducted Oct. 24-Nov. 5, the recovery, fueled by rising business investments and a continued increase in stock prices, should be strong enough to bring employment gains from around April 2010. Still, with more than 7.3 million jobs lost since December 2007, 61% of the panelists don’t expect a complete recovery of the previously lost jobs until 2012…
Hamstrung by the nation’s $1.4 trillion deficit and his pledge not to raise taxes on middle-class Americans, Mr. Obama is keen to avoid any measures suggestive of a second, big-ticket stimulus. With about half of the February stimulus spending spoken for, the measure has created about 640,000 jobs, fewer than the number of jobs lost in January alone…
NABE revising its forecast, calling for job growth in 2Q 2010. God willing it will be so. I see nothing to indicate this Administration will suddenly moderate it’s out of control spending and reimagining of our economy. Unless China let them know they MUST get their fiscal shxt together or face no purchasers for our debt. Even then I do not see how Obama can pull this out. He is ramming through the 3 trillion health care bill anyway and he will be politically destroyed if he tries to raise taxes before the 2010 elections….IOW the Dem. majority is fxcked.
Housing: Existing Home Sales rocket up 10%, 2.5 year high; median price down 7.1% y/y
The Economic Eeyore in me must note that in the West, the epicenter of the bubble collapse, sales were only up 1%. But take good news where you can get it!
The National Association of Realtors said sales surged a record 10.1 percent month-over-month to an annual rate of 6.10 million units, the highest since February 2007, from a downwardly revised 5.54 million-unit pace in September.
Analysts polled by Reuters had expected October sales to jump to a 5.70 million-unit pace from the previously reported 5.57 million units in September. Compared to October last year, home sales were up by a record 23.5 percent. U.S. stock indexes extended gains on the data, while Treasury debt prices were little changed.
“Many buyers have been rushing to beat the deadline for first-time buyer credit that was scheduled to expire at the end of this month, and similarly robust sales may be occurring in November,” said Lawrence Yun, NAR’s chief economist.
Distressed transactions accounted for 30 percent of sales last month and continued to weigh on house prices. First-time buyers made up a third of sales in October. The national median home price fell 7.1 percent from October last year, the smallest decline in over a year, to $173,100. Homes in foreclosure typically sell for 15 to 20 percent less than traditional homes….
The big news, the inventory (we are all waiting for the shadow REO to hit the market):
The inventory of existing homes for sale in October fell 3.7 percent to 3.57 million units from the previous month, NAR said. At October’s sales pace, that represented a supply of 7.0 months, the lowest in 2-1/2 years, from September’s revised 8.0 months.

Sen Arlen Specter (blows with the wind-PA) admits the 500 billion in Medicare cuts WILL happen
Specter admits that the Medicare cuts are REAL. All the neoprogs have been saying the proposed 500 billion in Medicare cuts are simply on paper for CBO scoring purposes and that Democrats don’t cut Medicare. This, despite the iMAC panel written into the stimulus and the health care bills in House and Senate. The panel that cut mammogram guidelines is mentioned by name in that legislation. Comparative effectiveness=rationing, period. I have not spent 22 years as a Dem defending Medicare only to support the Democrats transfer of health services from the elderly to the uninsured and low income and that is exactly what these bills do. Maybe these political hacks can live with themselves after leaving our Greatest Generation twisting in the wind, but I can not.
Remember this?
Here is a blast from the very recent past: Democrats ranting and raving and railing against GWB proposed Medicare cost cuts. I have no idea how these people can look themselves in the mirror every day:
…The Obama administration said Wednesday that it plans to cut Medicare payments for imaging services and specialists, and will use the savings to increase payments to physicians providing primary care.
Under the proposal, Medicare would put specialists’ payments for evaluating and managing illnesses on par with those of primary-care physicians starting in January…
…Payments to cardiologists would be trimmed by 11% overall, but certain procedures they perform would see steeper reductions. Alfred Bove, president of the American College of Cardiology, figured that cardiologists would receive 42% less for an echocardiogram and 24% less for a cardiac catheterization.
Radiologists would see an estimated cut of 20% for imaging services using expensive equipment such as MRI and CT scans, said Bibb Allen, chairman of the commission on economics at the American College of Radiology. That would be in addition to the cuts imposed on radiologists under a 2005 law, he said.
Canada rations cataract surgery. Panels are already denying drug coated stents in Washington state which has a plan like that proposed by Congress. In Britain, not only is their incidence of death from breast cancer much higher, they refuse to give women Avastin. They value your life at $45000 a year, more than that and they will not pay.
Newsflash, my insurance company has a 1 million dollar lifetime benefit max on me. I feel much safer with them. If they deny me I have RIGHTS OF APPEAL, ultimately as high as DOL for ERISA plans and State Insurance Commissioners for other plans. When a government panel, completely outside of the control of Congress (IOW immune from the ‘pressure’ of we pee-ons begging them not to deny our treatment) , decides women do not need mammograms or pap smears (currently covered at 100% by my ‘Cadillac’ insurance plan with no copay, as it is in most states ALREADY, its is called well-woman exams) we will have NO ONE TO APPEAL TO.
The Democrats have betrayed their biggest most loyal constituency, the elderly. (they threw women, their second biggest constituency, under the bus so many times in the past 2 years I have lost count). 2010/12 elections cannot come soon enough.
Gooooold- another record- $1170.00 an oz
And you know what that means…it’s Shirley Bassey Burl Ives time! Happy Holidays!

Update: Opening Day Box Office Stomps ‘Dark Knight’, new record; ‘New Moon’ breaks box office records for midnight run- $26.3 million; “Paranormal Activity” the most profitable film of all time, highest grossing R rated thriller in a decade…

Update: Heh. The ‘female-driven’ New Moon has knocked Batman’s dxck in the dirt. Vamps rool and caped crusaders drool this winter, lol:
Summit Entertainment’s “The Twilight Saga: New Moon” tore up the box office record for best opening day, grabbing the title away from Warner Bros. “The Dark Knight,” and earning a spectacular $72.7 million yesterday at 4,024 theaters. An exceptional feat for a film playing outside the summer frame.
There were an array of estimates being reported on the internet about how high the first day of “New Moon” actually was. This morning’s figure is Summit’s official Friday estimate.
“Dark Knight” had minted $67.2 million from 4,366 runs on July 18, 2008 before making a three-day opening weekend of $158.4 million.
Fueling the Friday B.O. for “New Moon” were midnight shows in 3,514 venues which drew in a record-breaking $26.3 million for the time slot.
The opening day for “New Moon” posted more than a 100% gain over the first Friday of “Twilight” which made $36 million a year ago and a three-day weekend of $69.6 million.
Hollywood better wake the hell up, another piece here focuses on the ‘female crowd’ and we know they are producing nothing original from interviews with Rob Zombie and the director of Trick R Treat also; Paranormal Activity made a mint and so will New Moon. Stop wasting money on Will Ferrell and other noted morons who want to criticize America and instead focus on producing things ‘females’ and their husbands, boyfriends, friends, sons, brothers, cousins may want to watch. How many times can you make American Pie? All Will Ferrell’s movies are the same. Go ahead hire a few women as studio execs and see what happens. Shake it up, lol. CW is doing pretty damn fine.
For a franchise that has clearly targeted females, “New Moon’s” first day is so exceptional that it’s fair to say that the film most likely played beyond its core crowd to males. However, Summit plans to release the pic’s moviegoing demos in its three-day estimate report tomorrow. Ever since the first installment finished its play in theaters, the production of “New Moon” has garnered non-stop headlines on glossy covers and fansites with the media savoring details on the film as well as its cast members Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner….
Summit Entertainment’s sequel “New Moon” has set box office history in breaking all records for midnight runs, grossing a whopping $26.3 million as it unspooled in 3,514 theaters at 12:01 a.m. Friday. That easily beats the $22.2 million collected by Warner Bros.’ “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” this summer. Today, “New Moon” goes into a total of 4,024 runs domestically. For a female-driven property to draw such a turnout is also history-making.
Next record for “New Moon” to eclipse: Best opening day. Current record-holder is Warners’ “The Dark Knight,” which grossed $67.2 million from 4,366 runs on July, 18, 2008.
However the first day grosses for “New Moon” turn out, they will far exceed the $36 million earned by “Twilight” on its first Friday exactly a year ago…
MiM is also pleased to note “Paranormal Activity” is now the most profitable film of all time.
The hit $15,000 thriller PARANORMAL ACTIVITY has grown from its midnight-only showings in a handful of college towns to become this year’s biggest movie phenomenon, and will cross $100 million at the box office after only five weekends of national release as of Friday. In so doing, the movie has become the top grossing R-Rated thriller of the past decade.
…PARANORMAL ACTIVITY began its theatrical life with midnight-only screenings in 12 college towns across the U.S. and quickly developed into a national wide hit, with fans visiting the ParanormalMovie.com website and demanded the film be brought to their city. After more than 1 million such requests, Paramount expanded the film nationally where it has been playing to packed theaters ever since.”
What is truly amazing about PARANORMAL ACTIVITY is the depth of commitment from fans who demanded to see it,” said Paramount Pictures Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Brad Grey. “Adam Goodman, our head of production, believed in the film and championed it from the very first screening. This box-office milestone is also a testament to Oren Peli’s considerable talents as a filmmaker. All of us at Paramount are proud to have been involved with his revolutionary project.”…
Paranormal Activity $5,035,043 Weekly Box Office $104.7 TOTAL GROSS Millions
