Obamapalooza ’10: Back on Tour
Axelrasputin and the Boyz are hitting the road again, bringing their ‘message’ to a venue near you.
Because that is what is really missing. More campaigning and rallies to allow The One to remind Americans of his ‘Oneness’. No change in actual policy, just more campaign stops.
…Obama has decided to strike a more populist tone and will take his message outside of Washington, crisscrossing the nation to sell his policies to voters much the way he did during the 2008 campaign.
…It also comes as many lawmakers and advisers are pressing the president to focus on the economy and return to his strength — campaigning. Many strategists see White House senior political adviser David Axelrod’s fingerprints all over the change in tactics.
Yes well, since campaigning is all Obama had done before he was elected I can see why they would push that as his special ‘strength’. Too bad ‘governing’ wasn’t his skill eh?
…Even as he switches into his own campaign mode, Obama indicated on Monday that he is prepared to stand by his policies. In an interview with ABC News’ Diane Sawyer, Obama said he would “rather be a really good one-term president than a mediocre two-term president.
…Obama told Democratic lawmakers at their retreat earlier this month that he would make more of an appeal to working men and women by taking frequent trips around the country over the next year — following advice that some of them have been trying to give him for months….
Yes because Obama was such an asset on the campaign for Deeds, Corzine and Coakley!
Investors ‘walk away’ from $5.4 B Stuyvesant Town purchase, leave taxpayers on the hook (FAN FRED CALPERS)

Yep. Don’t want those pesky regular working class Americans to ‘walk away, jingle mail’ on their underwater homes, but it is fine for Tishman Speyer Properties and BlackRock Realty to walk away leaving taxpayers on the hook. Because this kind of decision is made every day in business, Americans are waking up to the fact that they are the only people attempting to stay while underwater when their contracts allow them to walk away as these investors are doing.
Just like many underwater homeowners, these investors had almost no skin in the game, all free money, our money, FAN FRED and public pension funds who invested with them will be on the hook and you know what that means, taxpayer funded rescue to follow.
The investors bought this property which was originally designed for returning vets to have low cost housing, planning to increase the rents to market rates. The courts put the kaibosh on that and since they cannot make a profit and are now underwater they are walking away.
A group led by Tishman Speyer Properties has decided to give up the sprawling Peter Cooper Village and Stuyvesant Town apartment complex in Manhattan to its creditors in the collapse of one of the most high-profile deals of the real-estate boom.
The decision comes after the venture between Tishman and BlackRock Inc. defaulted on the $4.4 billion debt used to help finance the deal. The venture acquired the 56-building, 11,000-unit property for $5.4 billion in 2006—the most ever paid for a single residential property in the U.S. The venture had been struggling for months to restructure the debt but capitulated facing a massive debt load and a weak New York City economy that has undercut rents and demand for high-priced apartments.
The property’s owners signaled they would be unable to reach a deal with lenders and instead decided to allow creditors to proceed with what amounts to an orderly deed-in-lieu of foreclosure, which means a borrower voluntarily gives the property back to lenders to avoid a foreclosure proceeding.
Obama tries to channel Hillary, proposes 3 of her campaign ideas for the middle class..
heh. Obama is latching onto 3 ideas Hillary talked about at all of her campaign rallies. Trying to ‘feel our pain’. He is no Big Dawg or Hill, and notice his cut off for middle class help is 85k a year…so much for 250k eh? Hey I will take it where we can get it but I know who we have to thank, the Tea Party Patriots, voters of Massachusetts and Hillary, who kept winning the blue collar middle class voters, primary after primary.
…Obama will propose Monday an expansion of the child-care tax credit and a set of other initiatives designed to help the middle class.
…a near doubling of the child and dependent care tax credit for families that make less than $85,000 a year. The tax credit rate would be boosted to 35% from 20% of qualifying expenses.
…propose limiting a student’s federal loan payments to 10% of his or her income above a basic living allowance, requiring all employers to give employees the option of enrolling in a direct-deposit IRA, expanding tax credits to match retirement savings, and improving 401(k) transparency.
Another item Hillary championed that Obama is swiping is tax credits to help families caring for an elderly relative.
Thank you Hillary.
Rep. Carol Shea Porter channels her inner 80s girl group (she has a meeting in the ladies room to reform health care….)
Oh boy. Girl. woman, nitwit.
Now if she had said, if the Dems had gone straight to Hillary, this would never have happened,( like the Woody Woodpecker cartoon), then I would agree. Not b/c Hill is a woman of course, but b/c Hill got burned, badly, with HCR, and would have recognized JOBS were job ONE!
h/t redstate
PS: Rep. Shea-Porter has two potential Republican opponents: Frank Guinta and Bob Bestani.
Damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead: Plouffe called back to WH, says Obama must ‘fight like hell’, pass the hated health care bill and ‘pass politically difficult measures’ aka cutting Social Security, raising taxes….
And they’re off! It’s like the charge of the stupid brigade. As we have been predicting time immemorial, here come the SS cuts and tax increases. Obama is ready to focus like a laser, lol, on the deficit, BWAAAAHAA *cough cough*, and David ‘every fundraising email I send is an attack on Hillary or Sarah’ Plouffe has been called back to the fold to bravely lead Obama to the correct path for electoral victory…
So where does David suggest we begin? By ramming through the DESPISED health care bill of course! Followed by passing ‘politically difficult measures’, can you say ‘cutting Gen Xs Social Security’ and raising taxes?, cuz I can!’
…We still have much to do before November, and time is running short. Every race has unique characteristics, but there are a few general things that Democrats can do to strengthen our hand.
…Pass a meaningful health insurance reform package without delay. Americans’ health and our nation’s long-term fiscal health depend on it. I know that the short-term politics are bad….
…That’s why Democrats must create a strong foundation for long-term growth by addressing health care, energy and education reform.
(MiM-Yeah b/c it’s not like every single speech of Obama’s has focused on health care, education or energy before now right? oh yeah)
…We must also show real leadership by passing some politically difficult measures to help stabilize the economy in the short term. Voters are always smarter than they are given credit for. We need to make our case on the economy and jobs — and yes, we can remind voters where Republican policies led us — and if we do, without apology and with force, it will have impact….
Great without apology and with force, this is just who Obama needs now! Someone to tell him DAMN THE TORPEDOES AND FULL SPEED AHEAD!! Passing ‘politically difficult measures’ gee wonder what that could mean…
– Make sure voters understand what the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act did for the economy…
See there is that patronizing BS again, we just don’t UNDERSTAND how WONDERFUL the 700 billion dollar boondoggle was! So the UE rate is still climbing and at 10% really is a sign of the success of the stimulus! It is apparently just a matter of enlightenment waiting to happen if they find just the right words, or tone in delivery of another greatest speech evah…Satori awaits us America! they just need a good Zen Koan….
– Don’t accept any lectures on spending…(MiM- OMG cannot even begin to fisk this one)..We have potent talking points on health care, honest budgeting and cuts in previously sacrosanct programs.
Yeah David! Talk up how your guy tried to GUT 500 BILLION from Medicare, a previously SACROSANCT program, that’ll really turn the voters back to you! See he thinks it is GOOD, they are gonna double down and gut SS Im a tellin ya!
Plouffe also makes it really clear it is time to gin up the machine and get a few million more from ‘donors’ like DooDadPro and organize those ‘first time’voters, y’uh -huh..ACORN/SEIU/Soros they are calling you-uuuuuuu
…Our campaigns can leave no stone unturned, from believing in the power of grass-roots volunteers and voter registration, to using technology and data innovatively, to raising money -- especially with big corporate interests now freed up to dump hundreds of millions of dollars to elect those who will do their bidding. Democratic candidates must do everything well. Each one must make sure that the first-time voters from 2008 living in your state or district — more than 15 million nationwide — are in their sights. Build a relationship with those voters, organize them and educate them. On Nov. 3, many races are sure to be decided by just a few thousand if not a few hundred votes. These voters can make the difference. …
Yeah those ‘voters’ certainly made a difference in those Dem caucuses fer shure.
His next message is don’t let those millions of pixxed off Americans screaming STOP! get in the way:

TGIF!!! ‘Spartacus: Blood and Sand’ Premieres tonight Starz 10pm ET/PT
Let’s just say it now: “Spartacus: Blood & Sand” isn’t for the squeamish. Or the prude. There is so much blood and sex in the first hour, you might think you’ve stumbled into the world’s oldest porn. Or the first horror movie ever made. But the combination of flesh — both gored and bared — is just a small part of what makes “Spartacus” the most dynamic new series of 2010.
There are also enough dazzling effects to make George Lucas, James Cameron and Peter Jackson green with envy. Quite simply put: There has never been a show like this on television before — so don’t be the fool who misses this ground-breaking debut.
And while it may be the gladiators who draw in the dudes, it’s Lucy Lawless (and the other Roman women) who will keep them coming back since the colosseum clashes pale in comparison to the fights that unfold in “civilized” society…
