Update: ‘Disillusioned liberals yearn for Hillary’; Gallup shows Hillary now more popular than Obama; so the media hounds immediately try to tear her down…

Update: Told ya so. And let me add Hillary was also a free market capitalist, a big frakkin plus!

Chris Stirewalt:

Where were you when you came to the panicky realization that Hillary Clinton was right?

For me, it was while driving to work one recent morning and talking with a colleague about the state of the health legislation. I was explaining how the Obama plan wasn’t really about universal coverage but rather cutting a deal with the insurance industry and then making it look good for liberals. I paused, realizing that I had just repeated, almost verbatim, the lines that Clinton used to bludgeon  then-Sen. Barack Obama during the Democratic primaries.

As they debated in Cleveland — the nastiest of their one-on-one matchups after John Edwards dropped out to spend more time with his families — Clinton charged that Obama wouldn’t play tough enough and would get rolled by the insurance industry. Her words came back to me: “Senator Obama’s plan does not cover everyone. It would leave, give or take, 15 million people out.”

I expected to look into the rearview mirror and see her sitting in the back seat cackling and wearing that suit that looked like it had been plucked from the wardrobe trailer of “Star Trek: The Next Generation.”….

…That’s why so many liberals are now remembering Clinton’s other line from the Ohio primary of March 2008: “Shame on you, Barack Obama.”

Most conservatives had their moment of regret for Clinton’s loss long ago when they realized that Obama was completely out his depth….For those on the Right chiefly concerned with foreign policy, the lament about Clinton’s miserable campaign continues to deepen. They believe that radical Islam and Vladimir Putin will prove to be tougher adversaries than the insurance industry and the senior senator from Maine. The defense-minded Right is still thinking about the 3 a.m. call, and not the one from the Nobel Committee….

But conservatives know that they never would have had a chance with Clinton. Where Obama has overfilled his plate like a kid at Thanksgiving dinner and now stares at an unappetizing mountain of cold mashed potatoes, Clinton would have taken measured bites and finished the whole feast….

…But had she won, there’s no doubt that she would have ground up the bones of her enemies and baked chocolate chip cookies with them. Obama, though, has proven to be the only person who could make the GOP look reasonable again after the misadventures of the Bush years. Conservatives can console themselves with the thought of 2010 and beyond.

For liberals, though, the strange, sad longing for the woman they rejected has only just begun.

APTOPIX Democrats Unions
So this morning we find in GALLUP that Hillary is now more popular than Obama. Coincidentally the Daily Beast which has ignored Hillary’s succesful work on the Armenia/Turkey accords and in No Ireland, suddenly picks up a story from a Hillary basher overseas suggesting Hill is making up ‘bosnia’ like stories again. What utter TOOLZ FOR TOTUS!!

A new Gallup poll shows that the number of people who have a favorable impression of Barack Obama has fallen to its lowest point since he became president. Fifty-six percent say they have a favorable impression of Obama, versus 40 percent who say they have an unfavorable impression. (Four percent say they have no opinion.) Historically, a president’s personal favorable rating has often been higher than his job approval rating; right now, Gallup has Obama’s job approval at 52 percent.

…Gallup points out that in this latest survey, Hillary Clinton is now more popular than Obama. Sixty-two percent say they have a favorable impression of the Secretary of State, versus 34 percent who have an unfavorable impression. That’s a big change from the height of the battle for the Democratic nomination last year; in February 2008, just 48 percent had a favorable impression of Mrs. Clinton, versus 49 percent who had an unfavorable impression.

Islamist Militant plot to kill Hillary foiled in Kenya…

Notice no MSM reports it here in America. But let a guy strap a gun on 5 miles away from TOTUS at a rally and that is in the news for days. Why is that?  I mean there was a shxtload of coverage of Hillary getting snippy with a misinterpreted question, but we hear jack about the attempts to kill her? Which of these things was actual ‘news’? What a disgrace our media is. Were it not for the report in the Australian press we would likely NEVER have heard about it.  Same thing with GWB no reporting of the threats he received. Why? h/t ForeignPolicy

Hillary dancing in Kenya (knowing there was a bomb plot just foiled, cojones of steel has Hillary)

The Australian News:

RADICAL Islamist al-Shabaab militants linked to al-Qa’ida and based in Somalia plotted to kill US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton during her trip to Africa last month, it was disclosed yesterday.

A planned series of bomb attacks set to take place in Nairobi, the capital of neighbouring Kenya, while Mrs Clinton was there – one in the hotel where she was staying – was foiled at the last minute, media reports, citing senior security officials, said.

“Al-Qa’ida wanted to strike at the heart of Nairobi (while Mrs Clinton was here),” the senior security official was quoted as saying, adding that Kenyan authorities intercepted communications between the plotters in war-ravaged Somalia and their operatives in Nairobi, which has a large emigre Somali population.

Five suspected al-Shabaab terrorists were arrested, including a man believed to be a Somali carrying a Danish passport. The four other suspects seized, including a woman, had what appeared to be false Kenyan identity documents, according to the reports.

Sounds like a close call:

There were to be major bomb blasts in the hotel where Mrs Clinton and her entourage were staying, as well as at another major hotel and a transport hub.The reports said that so seriously was the view taken by authorities of the al-Shabaab threat that elements from Kenya’s elite presidential guard were deployed as part of Mrs Clinton’s entourage. Yesterday’s reports said there were concerns al-Shabaab militants living in Nairobi might be acquiring Kenyan identification documents, including passports.

Nairobi and Dar es Salaam, in neighbouring Tanzania, were the targets of al-Qa’ida attacks in 1998 that killed 250 people and injured 5000. In 2002, terrorists struck near the port of Mombasa, attacking a tourist hotel and attempting to bring down an Israeli passenger liner leaving the Nairobi airport.

Congratulations Madame Secretary!!! Hillary confirmed by the Senate….

UT0038718

Hillary Rodham Clinton has been confirmed by the U.S. Senate as the Secretary of State…woohoo!!!

Via Fox:

A number of senators said before the vote that Clinton, who traveled and met with foreign dignitaries around the world during her time as first lady, is uniquely qualified for the job.

They said foreign policy challenges such as the Iraq and Afghanistan wars and the conflict in the Gaza Strip make her installation imperative for President Obama’s administration.

“As a country and as a world, we need Hillary Clinton as secretary of state,” Clinton’s New York colleague, Democratic Sen. Chuck Schumer, said on the floor before the vote.

Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C. said the country needs an advocate on the world stage, and, “There’s no better advocate than Hillary Clinton.”

Obama press secretary Robert Gibbs said Clinton, as the new secretary of state, would attend the White House meeting on Iraq Wednesday afternoon.

Sounds as though MAC lent a hand to get this done!!!

But Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., said on the floor that he had talked to Cornyn and that Cornyn had no objections to a vote Wednesday. Cornyn spoke with Clinton Tuesday at the Capitol and said the former first lady agreed to more regular disclosure of her husband’s foundation donations, provided the requirement does not only apply to the Clintons…

God Bless you Madame Secretary!!!

Did everyone note that Hillary was honored at the MLK Center last week as well:

From Atlanta Jounral Constitution-:

U.S. Sen. Hillary Clinton was lauded as a champion of social and racial justice at the King Center’s “Salute to Greatness” dinner Saturday in Atlanta.

The New York Democrat and U.S. secretary of state-designate was among the featured guests at the civil right’s center major fund-raiser, held at the Hyatt Regency.

The banquet is one of a number of weekend events honoring the late Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. Monday is a federal holiday given over to remembrances of the civil rights icon, who was assassinated in 1968.

“It’s not just remembering and celebrating; we must also act,” Clinton told the audience of 1,000 people. “Until every vote is counted and every American has health insurance and jobs, then it is up to all of us. As we commemorate MLK Day, we are called upon to treat this day as a day of service. We all have a part to play.”

Isaac Farris Jr., president of the King Center, lauded Clinton for her leadership, humanitarianism and “as a champion of needed social reforms.”

“Sen. Clinton has worked tirelessly throughout her career to advance racial justice, child welfare and health security for all Americans and human rights worldwide,” Farris said in prepared remarks.

Clinton, who the U.S. Senate will likely confirm next week as the nation’s top diplomat, has vowed that human rights will be a cornerstone of American foreign policy.

Jesse White saves Reid’s bacon…gives Harry yet another way out…

The IL SoS has gone ahead and signed ‘a certification’ . Not ‘the cert’, the one Blago signed that Harry has been whining about,  but ‘a’  certification that he, AG Madigan and the IL SC said did not need to be signed.

It has been sent to Reid, who is claiming the Senate legal experts are reviewing it…

(This is L’amours in Brooklyn, one of MiM’s old stomping grounds, ahhh those were the days, lol…courtesy of MaxBonesBlack)

From Politico:

“The Senate Parliamentarian, the Secretary of the Senate and Senate Legal Counsel are advising Senate Leadership as we consider a way forward,” said Jim Manley, Reid’s spokesman, on Friday evening.

This latest development gives Democrats a way out of a sticky situation. The Illinois Supreme Court said White does not need to sign the appointment papers even though the Senate requires him to get White’s signature before he can assume office. White has refused to sign the document, but signed the Jan. 9 certificate and plans to send it to the Senate along with Burris’ appointment papers.

Immediately after the court ruling, Burris declared victory and said it would lead to his appointment to the Senate.

“I am very happy that the Supreme Court ruled supporting our argument that everything surrounding this appointment was legal and complete,” Burris said in a statement. “This appointment meets the qualifications required by the U.S. Senate of all gubernatorial appointees to fill vacated seats.”

0105dvs_pol_burris_senate
White responded by declaring that he was not going to sign anything and claimed vindicated that the Illinois Supreme Court doesn’t think he has to do so.

-snip-

Yet White later decided to sign a separate declaration affirming Burris’ appointment. (MiM here, think he got a ‘call’ from Senate ? uhm yeah )

Word to Harry, take this last best chance at saving face and get over yourself already…

Irrespective of whether it is signed, MiM and many legal opinionators of note theorize that SCOTUS would easily knock down Reid’s paltry claims of tradition and their ROOL. As IL SC noted in their ruling yesterday, the Senate ROOL II says nada about a signature and even if it did, the Senate has ZERO power to enforce arbitrary roolz on the states which have the protection of the Constitution on appointing/electing their representatives to the Congress..

And no, appoint/elect makes no difference….if we weren’t in such trying times I would LURB for Reid to stick his neck out just a wee a bit farther and give us the smack-down from SCOTUS that would end this BS once and for all so they NEVER EVER try to exceed their authority this way again..but alas times are exceedingly tough and as MiM has said from the get-go the people of Illinois DESERVE FULL REPRESENTATION….

Suck it up and walk it off Harry, you have bungled once again, and White has given you ANOTHER out, take it.

One more time, Harry Reid cannot fight his way out of a wet paper bag. We need a new leader, preferably one with cojones, I would suggest Hillary as I have in the past, but she has other work to do…

Breaking: PEBO picks Blair for Top Intel Post…

WaPo has the ROY on Blair’s imminent appointment…

Blair, the former commander of the U.S. Pacific Command, would become the nation’s third director of national intelligence, succeeding Mike McConnell as the leader of the 16 U.S. intelligence agencies. He had been the rumored front-runner for the job for several weeks.

“It’s definitely Blair,” said one congressional official who had been briefed on the selection. Both sources spoke on the condition of anonymity. The Obama transition team declined comment.

…Blair impressed Republican and Democratic lawmakers with his knowledge of the intelligence agencies and ideas for streamlining and improving the often unwieldy U.S. intelligence apparatus, the sources said. Blair had served during the Clinton administration as a military liaison at the CIA in charge of coordinating intelligence between the spy agency and Pentagon….

Hillary good to go for SoS, Senate reduces pay to 2007 levels…

82367459PR247_2008_Democrat

Tonight the Senate voted to reduce the pay levels of the Secretary of State to those of January 2007, thereby applying the fix used once before to avoid a Constitutional bar under the Emoluments Clause for Senator Hillary Clinton to serve as SoS. The Clause prohibits legislators from holding a position for which they voted a salary increase in their term. This vote nulls that issue.

Politico has the scoop:

The Senate quickly and quietly approved a measure Wednesday evening that will help ensure Hillary Clinton becomes the next Secretary of State…By a voice vote, the chamber approved a resolution reducing the Secretary of State’s pay to its January 2007 level….After anticipated House passage, Clinton’s confirmation will be on track in the Senate for early next year….

Hooray for Madame Secretary!!! After the confirmation I am popping a bottle of bubbly..
