The Princess and the Press…..

Caroline Kennedy seems to think she is entitled to her late Uncle’s (God Bless Bobby and John) NY Senate seat. What with her Op-Ed that helped launch a thousand rallies for PEBO and her turning over the keys to the kingdom and convincing Uncle Teddy to crown PEBO before the adoring masses in the run up to the Democratic Primaries, she apparently feels she now has ‘political experience’…

After all, she DID run the PEBO VEEP search committee which gave us the ground breaking pick of…….Joe Biden…

Uhm, yeah., Maybe not Caroline.

But wait! Fans tell us it would be so sweet, and she wrote books on Consitutional Law! Well so did Jeffrey Toobin of CNN and no one suggests HE would be qualified to hold the NYS Senate seat…

It is really all about the name, bottom line, and the endorsement for PEBO..

We are in a recession unlike any seen since..well frankly in my lifetime..inflation is low now, but I have no doubt that 70s era Carteresque inflation is coming in two years…Wall St brokerages have ceased to exist as we knew them..the commercial paper market is in turmoil….jobs are leaving NY in an exodus and taxes are going are being slashed….we need Superman orwoman, we don’t need a painfully shy socialite with ZERO PRACTICAL EXPERIENCE in getting legislation passed..or even KNOWING the state and its needs…

Living in Manhattan and attending charity balls and fundraisers does NOT, I repeat, does NOT give you experience in NYS politics ..

_44086279_ap203bodyleonaAlthough I’m sure they raise money for good things, like the wee furry wonders of the world, but we wouldn’t have wanted Leona Helmsley running NYS either and she gave to charity too, although her dog probably has enough dough to run a fabulous campaign for the seat in 2010, thus qualifying him under Democratic Party guidelines..

If being rich or famous and living in Manhattan was all it took, then Fran Drescher would get the seat (and Fran is, you know, more  ‘in touch’ with the people).  It may get you a seat at Bloomberg’s dinner table and a friend in the schools chancellor when you raise money at charity functions but it does NOT equip you to go toe to toe and FIGHT for the PEOPLE…(speaking of which we ALL know Bloomberg hates Hillary in large part because she FIGHTS him when she feels the people would be better served by not pursuing his agenda)..Hey think Bloomberg is looking for a rubber stamp, I do!

Gee think I have an opinion on this or what? HA!

I have been trying to let it go by without commenting but after the DISASTROUS appearances Caroline made in upstate NY yesterday, we need to talk…she confirmed what I had suspected, she has ZERO ZIP NADA ZILCH base of knowledge about the needs of NYS and the people who live and work there…

First of all, it is classless not to call Hillary. Secondly, to not call her and then  steal her theme of a conversation and listening tour and ASSUME that you are as experienced or frankly as good as Hill was a grave error on her part (maybe Caroline has been watching too much NBC and bought her own propaganda).

Hillary is a wonky goddess, she LOVES to learn, she LOVES to listen, she ACTIVELY listens and communicates and she went on tour after having learned all she possibly could…..Caro? not so much….(and PS anyone who is comparing this selection to Hillary get off it, Hillary was E-L-E-C-T-E-D- get it?)

How did her stop in Syracuse go? Surely the Mayors are all lining up to endorse the Princess?

WCBSTV: Afterward, CBS 2 HD spoke with Mayor Driscoll by phone. He said that although Kennedy was gracious, he wasn’t willing to back her candidacy … right now.

“I think it’s premature for me to say that,” Driscoll said. “I think there’s a lot of great candidates out there.

“But at the end of the day I think it’s important to have someone who represents you, knows New York State and really has an intimate knowledge of the state and upstate.”

Well how did the press handle it? Is the PEBO press bubble in which Caro traveled still in effect? Uhmmm no.

The black SUV pulled up to Syracuse city hall Wednesday morning.  It was stop one on Kennedy’s upstate tour.

…reporters who wanted her to do more talking and less listening.  “But you’ve never held public office so what experience [do you have]?” one reporter asked. “You’re not going to answer questions at all?” one asked.

“Where you headed next?” another demanded.

“To the car.”( she replied)

Ohhhh snarky with the press, baaad idea Caro, you’re not in PEBO’s golden bubble anymore girlie, these are the rough and tumble snowbanks of upstate NY now….

Caroline said to the reporters, ask not what I can do for New York State, ask what New York State can do for me. Okay, so she didn’t say that, but if they make this appointment they may as well..(MiM).

Ich ben ien Syracusian! no she didnt say that either, but she should have, maybe she would get a laugh….

Who endorsed her? Al Sharpton. And Mayor Koch of all people, but what sterling background in NYS or economics or financial markets or agriculture or trade..what of these qualities is she bringing to the table in these trying times for the people?

“When you look at her, and you know what the Kennedy’s are capable of and you know the family she comes from … think of the DNA,” Koch said.

Ahh the DNA….Memo to Ed Koch,  If we wanted to think of the DNA we would call it the House of Lords.

Maybe it would be helpful to see how the Democratic Governor of CO is planning to choose Ken Salazar’s replacement: We’re going to wait and we’ll have a process in place when the nomination is final… I’m not going to speculate on the process,” said Ritter. “We hear people talking about it outside the governor’s office and we are mindful that there is a great deal of work to be done at the very beginning of Congress, the very early parts of January, so we’ll take all that into consideration and we’ll have more to say certainly when the nomination’s made.”

YES! There is a WHOLE LOTTA WORK TO BE DONE RIGHT AWAY IN JANUARY! Not a good time for a TOTALLY INEXPERIENCED NEWBIE with nothing but DNA and a law degree to recommend her!

I mean really.

If you have any input you would like to give to Gov Paterson on his selection and you are in NYS, please send him an email or give him a call.

This is too dangerous a time to appoint a Greta Garboesque socialite who IMO is having a midlife crisis now that her kids are grown (and Uncle Teddy being sick IMO pushed her from seeking a mere Ambassadorial appointment to thinking she can actually GOVERN) and has decided to go out and get herself an inherited political career after having done absolutely no work for it…

I would prefer Carolyn Maloney – D-NY who has been working her axx off for NY for many years be promoted to the Senate seat…..

Time Magazine has called her a “tenacious, resilient legislator.” The New York Sun said “her entire career has been marked by a kind of personal courage.” The Village Voice characterized her as “a tiger in the House on every dollar due New York.” And The New York Times said, “New York’s Congressional delegation stands out for their moxie, kind of the way New Yorkers themselves often do. Among the brashest members is Representative Carolyn B. Maloney, a Democrat of Manhattan.”

New York Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney is a strong voice for New Yorkers, and a national leader with extensive accomplishments on security, financial services, the economy, and women’s issues.

As the co-founder of the House 9/11 Commission Caucus, Maloney helped author and pass legislation to implement all of the 9/11 Commission’s recommendations for improving intelligence gathering. And in the wake of the Dubai Ports debacle, she helped craft successful legislation to reform the system for vetting foreign investment in the United States.

As a renowned champion for domestic and international women’s issues, Maloney helped passed legislation to target the demand side of sex trafficking and provide annual mammograms for women on Medicare. Maloney also authored the Debbie Smith bill to process DNA kits, which has been called the most important anti-rape legislation in history. The story of the legislation was made into a movie by Lifetime Television, A Life Interrupted: The Debbie Smith Story, with actress Lynn Adams portraying Congresswoman Maloney.

New York City has no stronger advocate in Congress than Maloney. She has doggedly fought for full federal assistance to help the city rebuild from 9/11, most recently helping secure the very first doses of federal money for the health care needs of those made sick by the toxic air at Ground Zero. She has also delivered significant federal funding for the Second Avenue Subway and East Side Access transportation projects, both of which run through her district.

Maloney’s career has been a series of firsts. She is the first woman to represent New York’s 14th Congressional District, the first woman to represent New York City’s 7th Councilmanic district, and the first woman Vice-Chair of the Joint Economic Committee, a House and Senate panel that examines and addresses the nation’s most pressing economic issues. She was also the first woman to give birth while serving on the New York City Council.

In addition to her work on the Joint Economic Committee, Maloney is Chair of the House Financial Services Committee’s Financial Institutions Subcommittee, which has jurisdiction over the nation’s banking system. As Subcommittee Chair, she has worked to modernize financial services laws and regulations, strengthen consumer protections, and institute vigilant oversight of the safety and soundness of our nation’s banking industry. Maloney is also a senior member of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee.

You really MUST go read Rep. Maloney’s extended biography here, it is stunning how much experience she has and how much she has done for the people of New York, having served in NY government in various roles since 1977, a LIFETIME of public service…

Hillary may be tiny, but she has left LARGE shoes to fill, ask the people of upstate NY who have an AMD plant being built….Hillary fought tooth and nail for that plant and those 2,000 permanent jobs to come to NYS..Caroline Kennedy just doesn’t have the chops –  or the moxie.

  3. sauer kraut replied:

Okay, so you support Maloney. But that alone does not disqualify Kennedy from consideration – which is what too many Hillary-ites want to happen for no reason except that CKS endorsed Obama.

  4. sauer kraut replied:

    complain, complain, complain.

who are all these people claiming she has no experience? probably the same people who believe she’s been at home doing nothing but polishing her nails.

she’s been doing things for ny’ers for years. and she’s been involved in election campaigns for decades, including her numerous Kennedy cousins.
