Remember that Raise Congress Gave Itself? It was $93,000!!!

UnbeLIEVable!!

Yeah, call these people and tell them to use the money TO BUY A FRAKIN CLUE!!!!

I am SURE they will be ‘scolded’ about being ‘responsible’ in these times of hardship….

From The Intellectual Redneck:

If this doesn’t make you want to fly to Washington and slap your legislator, nothing ever will. Congress gives itself a $93,000 raise to stimulate the economy. It must be nice to have that kind of extra petty cash laying around. Instead of tightening your belt in this recession, wouldn’t you like an extra $90,000? Never mind the record deficits. Never mind that ordinary Americans are struggling to pay their bills. Our Congress thinks it is far more important to be able to dole out perks to itself.

This tune keeps playing in my head –

Demmies, trash and thieves,
we give it to the people when they’re on their knees…

Demmies, trash and thieves,
we hide all our bounty -til we’re the nominees…

MiM here, don’t like that talk? Then call your Congress Critters and tell them we  find it to be unacceptable behavior and Daschle is a no-go…

GOP Steps Up with a Housing Plan…

Well finally! Someone has a housing plan!!

And here I thought it would be the hero of the middle class and poverty stricken, the champion of the people, the Dems or Team Obama, HA! No it is the GOP, and we will take it where we can get it. Thank you GOP!

Bloomberg: Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, a Kentucky Republican, said yesterday the House plan “doesn’t fix the main problem, which is housing,” and that his colleagues want to make changes “which will actually stimulate the economy.”

More Bloomberg: McConnell said Senate Republicans want to attach provisions designed to fight the housing crisis by having the federal government insure 4 percent fixed-rate mortgages.

Politico:

* Rather than providing taxpayer funded purchases of frozen mortgage assets, we should adopt a mortgage insurance approach to solve the problem.

* Currently the federal government insures approximately half of all mortgage backed securities. (MBS) We can insure the rest of current outstanding MBS; however, rather than taxpayers funding insurance, the holders of these assets should pay for it. Treasury Department can design a system to charge premiums to the holders of MBS to fully finance this insurance.

Never one to be upstaged,  the POTUS in his radio address today spares a few words for the cause of our crisis, making vague promises of a housing plan to appear sometime soon:

Via AP(ugh): Obama said Geithner soon would announce a new strategy “for reviving our financial system that gets credit flowing to businesses and families. We’ll help lower mortgage costs and extend loans to small businesses so they can create jobs. We’ll ensure that CEOs are not draining funds that should be advancing our recovery.”

The country waits with baited breath. Just give us the damn plan and let us get on with our lives m’kay?

Update and Correction: Team Obama adds 8% to Pentagon FY 09 budget.

UPDATE AND CORRECTION from HA by way of CQ:
If enacted, that would be about a $14 billion increase above the $513 billion allocated for fiscal 2009 (PL 110-329), including military construction funds, and it would match what the Bush administration estimated last year for the Pentagon in fiscal 2010. But it sets up a potential conflict between the new administration and the Defense Department’s entrenched bureaucracy, which has remained largely intact through the presidential transition.

Some Pentagon officials and congressional conservatives are already trying to portray the OMB number as a cut by comparing it to a $584 billion draft fiscal 2010 budget request compiled last fall by the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

The $527 billion figure is “what the Bush people thought was the right number last February and that’s the number we’re going with,” said the OMB official, who declined to be identified. “The Joint Chiefs did that to lay down a marker for the incoming administration that was unrealistic. It’s more of a wish list than anything else.”

Defense budget experts have said the draft by the Joint Chiefs, which was never publicly released, was designed to pressure the Obama administration to drastically increase defense spending or be forced to defend a reluctance to do so. Defense officials in past outgoing administrations have left inflated budget estimates for incoming officials in the hope of raising the spending baseline. In fact, the draft budget was never scrubbed by Bush’s OMB, which had told federal agencies to submit draft budgets based on “current services.”

One key issue is the administration’s decision to reduce supplemental appropriations by folding into the base Pentagon budget the non-war-related spending that has cropped up in supplemental bills.

The Pentagon refused to comment publicly on why it would need the higher amount. Defense Secretary Robert M. Gates has said the fiscal 2010 defense budget must contend with the realities of the bad economy and stop the trend of steep increases in military budgets since the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

Gates also has said the department would deliver Congress a formal request for a second tranche of fiscal 2009 war funding “in the coming weeks.” He sent Congress an estimate for that tab that totaled $69.7 billion.

Update: Tax Troubles are like Tribbles for Team Obama: ..Daschle also didn’t report INCOME…

Update: 11:42am EST: Oh it just keeps getting better, Daschle took over $200,000 from health care providers who stand to benefit from his decisions at HHS, Via Politco:

Tom Daschle, tapped to be President Obama’s health czar, was paid more than $200,000 by the health-care industry in the past two years, according to documents obtained by Politico.

Daschle made nearly $5.3 million in the last two years, records released Friday show, including $220,000 he received for giving speeches, many of them to outfits that stand to gain or lose millions of dollars from the work he would do once confirmed as secretary of Health and Human Services.

To be ABSOLUTELY CLEAR, Tom earned $ 5 million, and yet he didn’t pay his taxes, report all his income, he claimed charitable donations that were ineligible AND he didn’t report the car and driver…

THE TRIFECTA OF TAX EVASION!!!

HOW ‘SHAMEFUL’

JUST SAY NO TO DASCHLE..Tell your Congress Critters this is unacceptable…

Jake Tapper on it:

Mr. Daschle also didn’t report $83,333 in consulting income in 2007.

The Senate Finance Committee Report also notes that during the vetting process, President Obama’s Transition Team “identified certain donations that did not qualify as charitable deductions because they were not paid to qualifying organizations. Daschle adjusted his contribution deductions on his amended returns for 2005, 2006 and 2007 to remove these amounts and add additional contributions.” This adjustment meant a reduction in the amount he contributed to charitable foundations of $14,963 from 2005 through 2007. With the unreported income from the use of a car service in the amounts of $73,031 in 2005, $89,129 in 2006 and $93,096 in 2007; the unreported consulting income of $83,333 in 2007; and the adjusted reductions in charitable contributions, Daschle adds a total of $353,552 in additional income and reduced donations, meaning an additional tax payment of $128,203, in addition to $11,964 in interest.

This does not fly…

Just say No to more tax cheats….

AND there may be MORE to come that was not reported, Mr and Mrs Daschle, lobbyists to the pharmaceutical stars flew around and were ‘entertained’ for ‘free’ by clients, hmmmm:

The Finance Committee staff still is reviewing whether travel and entertainment services provided Tom and Linda Daschle by EduCap, Inc., Catherine B. Reynolds Foundation, Academy Achievement, and Loan to Learn should be reported as income.  Earlier this month, the Wall Street Journal reported that Daschle made use of the jet belonging to EduCap, a non-profit student loan organization.
