Phil Spector found Guilty- Second Degree Murder -No Bail

Update: I hear folks asking what was different this time around, they had expected at best a compromise verdict with the manslaughter charge added as an option this second trial.. I’ll tell you what was different., there was no engineer on the jury this time. That’s it, period. Ask any prosecutor, engineers have to have every conceivable and even inconceivable thing explained to find guilt, and the engineer on the last jury got the defense the hung jury last time around…

The Ronettes, Be My Baby (Phil also used to lock up Ronnie when they were married)

I watched the first trial and folks, he did it.

Drudge has it headlined

NBC LA : Music producer Phil Spector has been found guilty of second-degree murder in the February 2003 shooting death of actress Lana Clarkson.

Live Video: Spector Verdict

Jurors also found Spector personally used the firearm while committing the crime at his Alhambra mansion. Sentencing has been set for May 29.

The judge denied bail and Spector, wearing a fire-engine red tie and pocket square, was taken into custody after the verdict was announced. Deputies led Spector from the courtroom.

Second-degree murder carries a penalty of 15 years to life in prison.

Spector has been pulling guns on people, specifically women trying to leave, for over 20 years and he finally killed someone. God Bless Lana Clarkson and her family and friends.

Phil’s dad killed himself and his epitaph is To Know Him was To Love Him, yes like Phil’s first hit single. Very disturbed, gifted, but profoundly disturbed man.

Deadwood meets 300 in new Raimi/Lawless venture ‘Spartacus: Blood and Sand’…

Ohhh more Raimi and Lawless too! New Zealand Herald:

Just as the local production on the first season of Legend of the Seeker winds down, another of producers Rob Tapert and Sam Raimi’s latest New Zealand-based productions is about to start shooting. And this one will involve Lucy Lawless – Tapert’s missus – in a recurring role…

…Tapert says the show is for US cable network Starz Entertainment and will be shot largely using greenscreen in an Auckland studio, using many local actors – at least ones willing to get their gear off.  “It’s a reinvention of that story and myth. So the first 13 episodes are like the rise of the gladiator rock star. It’s more in the vein of Deadwood meets 300“…

Lawless… plays Lucretia, who with her husband Batiatus own a gladiator camp called the Ludus. They also own the soldier-turned-slave Spartacus. According to the network, “the couple has fallen on hard times financially and has bought Spartacus hoping his fighting prowess will help them regain their status in the brutal world of gladiatorial contests.”

British actor Andy Whitfield has been cast as Spartacus after what the network describes as “an exhaustive worldwide search.”…

The series begins production April 1 in New Zealand and is slated to premiere on Starz in January 2010. “Xena” producers Rob Tapert and Sam Raimi, along with Joshua Donen, are exec producing the series.

Other cast members include:

  • Erin Cummings (“Dollhouse”) as Thracian priestess Sura, Spartacus’ wife;
  • Peter Mensah (“300,” “Avatar”) as Doctore, Batiatus’ most loyal and trusted slave;
  • Manu Bennett (“30 Days of Night,” “The Condemned”) as Crixus, the top gladiator at Batiatus’ Ludus;
  • Antonio Te Maioha (“Xena: Warrior Princess,” “Legend of the Seeker”) as Barca, a big, hulking brute of a man who is Batiatus’ bodyguard and hit man;
  • Craig Parker (“The Lord of the Rings” trilogy, “Legend of the Seeker”) as Glaber, a Roman Legate, who blames Spartacus for his failed military campaign;
  • Nick E. Tarabay (“Crash,” “The Sopranos”) as Ashur, a former gladiator who is now the Ludus’ resident bookie.

Market Update: Santelli vs Liesman on Tea Parties, Fed’s Plan: Boost for Housing…

Midday and GOLD is back up to 900, heh. DOW down 73 to 8009, S&P down 4 to 852 and NAS down 13 to 1638. Methinks this Bear Rally is almost over and the precipitating event to kill it will be bank earnings this week. Lots of pushback on the Wells earnings report last week suggesting they do not have enough in reserves, thus their numbers…the ROY that Treasury told GM to have its bankruptcy paperwork ready for the end of June is a drag today as well…..

Watch all the way, at the end, Kudlow brings up the Tax Day Tea Party Movement and Steve Liesman  gets obnoxious (Gee defensive much Steve? LOL!) and Rickster fights back….
