Update: Did TOTUS scare the hell out of NYC for a Statue of Liberty or ‘100 day’ photo op? How much CARBON did they emit?

Update: To get an idea of how low and close this buzz was, this comments via Ace and WSJ give good insight. I find it terrifying and frankly I’m outraged, to me, it’s just not funny:

St. Patrick's Cathedral, Fifth Avenue

My Irish American eyes are smiling. 20,000 seemed such a low low number of  visas, the  cap has now been lifted

May we reciprocate so our college graduates may go to Ireland for work? I read recently Ireland was trying to encourage Irish American immigration, MiM will follow up….

Dylan Ratigan on why he left CNBC…

dylan_ratigan_photo

The only shows I am still watching on CNBC are The Call and Kudlow; hope Immelt is happy with the Zucker effect….

TBI Exclusive Interview (go read the whole piece!):

..There have been lots of rumors echoing around that star-CNBC anchor Dylan Ratigan stormed out of CNBC after feuding with bosses Mark Hoffman and Susan Krakower, that he’s headed straight to ABC for a big-time broadcast slot, and that he can’t go on-air for the next 6 months because of some ridiculous, spiteful clause in his CNBC contract.

Is it all TRUE???  Inquiring minds want to know!

So we asked Dylan himself, who was kind enough to share 20 minutes with us. …

Some hilights:

…It’s not even that some of the things aren’t true.  Did I fight with management?  Sure.  Did I fight with everyone in management all the time?  Absolutely not.  Did it have anything to do with the departure?  Absolutely nothing… People think that my departure was in some way a reflection on CNBC.  I’m telling you, it was a reflection on me….

-snip-

Dylan: One, it became apparent to me that there had been some major policy failures in America.  While clearly pursuable at a place like CNBC, in my opinion, they are more broadly pursuable from a wide variety of other news platforms.

Blodget: Such as?

Ratigan: Pick them.  ABC, CBS, HBO, MSNBC, CNN, FOX.  When you’re dealing with economic problems, you want to be speaking from an economic platform.  When you’re dealing with systemic policy failures that have rendered a catastrophe the likes of which we’ve really never seen, the role of journalism is to ask questions of money and power from the broadest possible platform…

Legend of the Seeker: Season Finale spoilers…

richardkahlan

Spoiler alert! Older interview here with tidbits about the Season Finale…

From multipleverses.com courtesy of SciFi Tracker:

…(Speaking of time travel…….there’s no Tardis in Legend’s season one finale, but there will be a rather flexible treatment of the time-space continuum. “Which is so exciting – it’s such a good script!” reveals Regan. “We start [filming] next week. And everybody on set – literally all the makeup girls and the crew, everyone was reading the script and flying through the pages and every once in a while someone will look up and go, “Oh my GOD!” and everyone is like, “I know!” So much crazy stuff goes down in the finale. I get to age many, many years in the finale.”)…

…Also Michael Hurst is directing the final episode of the first season of American tv series Legend of the Seeker. He has previously directed episodes 1.08, “Denna” and 1.10, “Sacrifice,” and played the evil wizard Amfortas in 1.12, “Revenant”. These episodes are now available for viewing online at legendoftheseeker.com (US only)….

On the series and how it has diverged from the Sword of Truth novels, insight into how this is episodic stand alone TV not a sweeping arc a la some BSG and all of TSCC:

…Kenneth Biller, one of Legend’s executive producers, has maintained that the show’s creators are in pursuit of the holy grail of television – creating quick-hit, stand-alone episodes that anyone can just tune into without missing a beat, while also maintaining a sweeping mythology – in this case, as presented by author Terry Goodkind’s books….

Stimulus Unemployment Update: Arizona changes state law to extend jobless benefits 13 weeks; adds another 7 weeks (emergency bens?)…

The Governor has signed the bill to change the trigger to extend UE in AZ….I wish the journOlists would be clear on how many weeks go to extended benefits under this new trigger and if the second part, the 7 weeks is the emergency benefits DOL is tracking triggers on..I am going with yes until we hear otherwise….

PhoenixBusinessJournal:

…The Legislature and Brewer have approved a bill to offer 13 to 20 extra weeks in jobless benefits to the long-term unemployed. The state’s jobless rate stands at 7.8 percent with double-digit unemployment in Pinal County, Yuma and Nogales…

East Valley Tribune:

…Gov. Jan Brewer on Friday signed legislation that alters state law to extend jobless benefits by 13 weeks once the unemployment rate hits 6.5 percent and stays there for three months. Arizona already is there, having passed that figure in December.

And the law adds another seven weeks on top of that once the jobless rate hits and stays at 8 percent for three months.

The state Department of Commerce already is predicting that the figures for this month, to be released in May, will reach 8 percent. And Dennis Doby, the agency’s senior director of research administration, is saying unemployment will only go up from for the foreseeable future.

Brewer had urged lawmakers to make the change once it was determined that any extra cost will be picked up entirely by the federal government. The funds are part of the stimulus package, formally known as the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, signed into law in February by President Barack Obama.

Arizona provides 26 weeks of unemployment benefits paid for by a tax on state employers. Other federally funded programs already have extended that another 33 weeks.

Liz Barker, spokeswoman for the Department of Economic Security, said the most immediate beneficiaries will be about 7,000 people who already have exhausted their 59 weeks of payments…
