..A girl wakes up in a coffin….Rocking the coffin to the ground, she escapes and is pursued by a tall man wearing a mask. Fairly unoriginal, huh? You’d be right to think so. However there is something about this film that really floats my boat…
‘The Girl’ – who is never named has no idea who she is and why ‘Chrome Face’ is chasing her – is picked up by kind stranger Tucker on a country road, and he takes her home for shelter. This is where all hell breaks loose. Chrome Face doesn’t take too kindly to the fact that she has escaped his clutches and evil intentions, and he’ll do anything to get back his potential victim. Armed with his ‘tools of the trade’ he sets out to get ‘The Girl’….
…Chrome Face … is a one-dimensional killer – which works brilliantly for the film. The skull mask is quite unnerving and unlike most movie psychos, ‘Face’ is actually tall and lanky. Looking body wise rather like the original Michael Myers (Nick Castle), it makes a nice change from the usual hulking brutes. ‘Face’ also has possibly the biggest knife I have seen since Crocodile Dundee and my lord, does he know how to use it.
Written and Directed by make-up artist Robert Hall, you expect the effects to be top notch and they certainly are. The blood flows in the various onscreen murders – and believe me does it flow! The death scenes are not quick, and there are some pretty gross beheadings and stabbings. A big ‘well done’ to all the make-up team, led by a guy whose surname is Porn! how cool is that?
Hall has assembled a good cast and used his connections as The Sarah Connor Chronicles head of make up to rope in old chums, Lena Headey and Thomas Dekker. Playing ‘The Girl’ is the director’s wife, Bobbi Sue Luthor, who carries the film well. Also it’s nice to see veteran bad guy Richard Lynch back on screen – remember him? The production values are excellent and the film has a nice polished look about it. It’s also the first slasher I have seen for ages with no T&A, which makes it a refreshing change.

..Warner Bros have been trying to move into the area of DVD first features for many years. DVD features have always been a tricky area — Hollywood has an atmosphere where nobody likes to feel they are slipping down the spectum, and DVD premieres still have a stigma in the industry (”Direct to video”). However, many companies believe significant revenue exists in this area, with companies such as Fox and Disney moving in.
Warner Bros itself has established an arm called “Warner Premiere”, who look purely at DVD projects. If Warners fail to find a network to continue the show into a third season, it seems fans should look towards Warner Premiere. They are looking for several things for their projects: a strong brand, a strong fan base or interest group, and a story.

One word answer to this one: Terminator. More words: it’s a worldwide brand.

The fans are currently busy filling up the inbox of FOX’s Kevin Reilly. They’re pretty vocal they want the show to continue. Again, they’re also all over the world, and they’re invested right now – not years ago….

Hoekstra, however, said he finds is “very difficult to believe” that intelligence officials would intentionally mislead leaders of the House intelligence committee, as Pelosi is alleging.
He also blasted Pelosi for saying that, since she felt she couldn’t change Bush administration policies, she turned her attention to electing a Democratic congressional majority.
“What I heard her say — and I was quite taken aback by her when she said — was that politics are more important than national security,” Hoekstra said. “That’s a very dangerous precedent.”
Bond said there have been numerous instances where congressional leaders have privately influenced administration policy on intelligence matters, though he declined to offer specfics.
“It’s no excuse to say, ‘I was powerless.’ That’s what oversight is all about,” he said. “There are a whole range of actions, and she did not take them.”

Governator to sell off CA landmarks for cash…condos in San Quentin?

..Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger today will propose selling San Quentin Prison, the Los Angeles Coliseum and other state-owned properties in a bid to raise cash to counter the state’s daunting budget shortfall.
He also wants to accelerate the sale of Agnews Developmental Center, the 81-acre facility on the north edge of San Jose that closed its doors in March after 120 years.
The proposal to sell off state assets is part of the governor’s revised budget plan being released today. Besides the Coliseum and San Quentin, the properties he’s eyeing for sale are the Cow Palace in Daly City, the Orange County Fairgrounds, Cal Expo in Sacramento, Del Mar Fairground, and the Ventura County Fair.
The sale of those properties would generate upward of $600 million and possibly more than $1 billion for the state, according to a copy of Schwarzenegger’s proposal. But proceeds from those sales would not arrive for another two to five years.
Selling the Agnews property would be done within two years.
With its stunning views of the San Francisco Bay, San Quentin has long been eyed for a more lucrative use. Sen. Jeff Denham, R-Modesto, has proposed selling both San Quentin and the Coliseum to generate badly needed revenues for the state.
