BSG: 4 Seasons in 4 minutes; Katee Sackhoff joins 24; Schmoes Know: Interviews Katee Sackhoff Part 1 and Eddie Olmos ‘blown away’ by ‘The Plan’…

BSG Total Recap created by freelancerxo02

CoronaComingAttractions has the scoop on Katee joining 24 next season, well ALLRIGHT!!! I can’t wait to see Katee in the bloopers :0)

Katee Sackhoff has landed her first ongoing role since reaching the end of Battlestar Galactica. The blonde-haired actress who played Starbuck throughout all four seasons of BSG has been cast as CTU staff member Dana Walsh in the upcoming eighth season of Fox’s 24.

Described by THR as “a smart and competent expert data analyst” at the counter-terrorism unit department of the government, her character has a hidden romantic connection with another new face, CTU agent Davis Cole (to be played by Freddie Prinze Jr.)

CCA on The Plan and how Eddie feels about it:

When Edward James Olmos recently talked about his upcoming Battlestar Galactica two-hour special movie The Plan he set the expectation bar pretty high. The man who played Admiral William Adama and who also directed the special spoke highly of the events we’ll see in the show, saying that the events that will unfold will leave the audience “gasping.”

“You see the complete opposite of the first 281 days of what we went through, … seen through the eyes of the Cylons, and it is breathtaking,” Olmost told the assembled crowd at the Los Angeles Times showbiz industry series called The Envelope (and as was reported online by Sci Fi Wire.) “It’s fantastic. It’s not fun, but I will say that you will sit there [gasping].”..

Video Updates: In a New York Minute: A ‘Coup D’Etat’ in NYS Senate: GOP takes control….

Update 2 from NYPost:

…”It’s a great day for the state of New York,” said B. Thomas Golisano, the Rochester billionaire, in a news conference with Libous, Skelos and Monserrate. Golisano, who has run unsuccessfully for governor three times, has spent millions to support candidates he feels will reform Albany to become more democratic and supportive of business.

The move was secretly in the works for more than five weeks, said a Republican with knowledge of the plan. Golisano was a major player in creating the coalition, said the Republican, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he wasn’t authorized to speak for the GOP senators.

New York’s government is run by the near absolute control of the majority party and its top leaders. Monday’s action, if it holds, would create the first coalition in power for at least 50 years….

Courtesy of NYSSenate2009:

When Senate Democrats campaigned last fall, they promised change and reform. Unfortunately the leadership they elected broke their promises, reneged on their commitments made to 19 million New Yorkers and to every member of the Senate, and calcified Albany dysfunction instead of ending it. Today, real change and real reform begins.

A new bipartisan, coalition elected today has delivered on the promises for reform that the Senate Democrat leadership failed to keep. The new rules adopted today will create a more open, bipartisan, transparent and member-driven body that will take dramatic new steps to end Albany dysfunction.

Supremes Take On Chrysler Case…issues stay on sale of assets…unclear if arguments will be heard but sale is stayed..

Update 2: CNBC has it up:

Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg has temporarily delayed Chrysler’s sale to Fiat. Ginsburg says in an order Monday that the sale is “stayed pending further order.” The action indicates that the delay may only be temporary.

Update: Indiana State Treasurer Richard Mourdouck who filed appeal is on CNBC now, he responds to Team TOTUS’ claims that if sale is not done by June 15th it will collapse as FIAT will pull out by calling BS, noting FIAT is getting the Chrysler stake FOR FREE, Uncle Sam will be giving FIAT 400million no strings, FIAT will contribute- zero dollars…..

Breaking on CNBC now…this is the appeal filed by the Indiana Pension Funds….

The U.S. Supreme Court will delay its decision on the Chrysler matter until late Monday afternoon after three Indiana state pension and construction funds filed emergency papers to block the company’s sale to Fiat. The group filed the papers on Sunday in hopes of receiving an appeal and a better deal.

An appeals court in New York approved the sale Friday, but gave objectors until Monday afternoon to try to get the Supreme Court to intervene. Chrysler wants to sell the bulk of its assets to a group led by Italy’s Fiat Group as part of its plan to emerge from bankruptcy protection. The emergency request went first to Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, who handles such matters from New York. She can act on her own or refer it to the entire court.

The Indiana State Police Pension Fund, the Indiana Teacher’s Retirement Fund and the state’s Major Moves Construction Fund claim the deal unfairly favors the interests of Chrysler’s unsecured stakeholders ahead of those of secured debtholders such as the funds.

The funds also challenged the constitutionality of the Treasury Department’s use of money from the Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP) to supply Chrysler’s bankruptcy protection financing. They say the government did so without congressional authority.

Circa 2003 Tanker Contract War Back On: Boeing, Northrup Grumman and EADS

Video courtesy of MobilityAirman

The third time is the charm, the saying goes, and the Pentagon is desperate for it to be so. This summer, the Defense Department will make its third attempt to award a $35 billion contract to buy aerial refueling tankers. Air Force leaders promise the process will be “fair and open.”

If it is, that will be a first. The aerial tanker bid has been bedeviled by investigations, protests and charges of bias and rule-breaking…

Everybody wants some…..*

…”No matter which way we go, it’s the No. 1 acquisition priority in the department,” said Paul Meyer, who manages Northrop Grumman’s tanker program. He added that the contest will be even more politicized than in the past. “It’s one of the last big ones coming, and it has an international component.”

Jobs, jobs, jobs, American jobs? Protectionism? Trade Wars? All part of the package as this tanker contract is open for bidding for the Third Time….

…With the economy still staggering, Boeing is emphasizing the potential job creation of the bid, particularly in states such as Kansas and Washington, where the firm has a major presence. In the last round of the tanker competition, Boeing hammered the Northrop and EADS plane for being French and not American. The recent spike in protectionism prompted by the economic meltdown is now being stoked to drum up even more opposition to Northrop-EADS partnership.Rep. Todd Tiahrt (R-Kan.), a defense appropriator who’s aiming for a Senate seat, is convinced that EADS gains an unfair advantage in the U.S. marketplace because it receives subsidies through socialized medical care available in Europe and was launched with government subsidies….

Keith Hennessey on the Draft Health Care Bill…Adds Medical Advisory Council…kills self-funded plans for small business…requires ‘children’ be covered to age 26 under parents plan…

Keith, via Glenn at Instapundit:

Over the weekend a draft of Senator Kennedy’s (D-MA) health care bill leaked.  After playing with Adobe Acrobat, here is the text of the draft Kennedy bill as a text file (173 K), and as a single Acrobat file (3.4 MB).   Unlike the leaked version, both of these are searchable.

…Here are 15 things to know about the draft Kennedy-Dodd health bill.

  1. The Kennedy-Dodd bill would create an individual mandate requiring you to buy a “qualified” health insurance plan, as defined by the government.  If you don’t have “qualified” health insurance for a given month, you will pay a new Federal tax.  Incredibly, the amount and structure of this new tax is left to the discretion of the Secretaries of Treasury and Health and Human Services (HHS), whose only guidance is “to establish the minimum practicable amount that can accomplish the goal of enhancing participation in qualifying coverage (as so defined).”  The new Medical Advisory Council (see #3D) could exempt classes of people from this new tax.  To avoid this tax, you would have to report your health insurance information for each month of the prior year to the Secretary of HHS, along with “any such other information as the Secretary may prescribe.”
  2. The bill would also create an employer mandate. Employers would have to offer insurance to their employees.  Employers would have to pay at least a certain percentage (TBD) of the premium, and at least a certain dollar amount (TBD).  Any employer that did not would pay a new tax.  Again, the amount and structure of the tax is left to the discretion of the Secretaries of Treasury and HHS.  Small employers (TBD) would be exempt.
  3. In the Kennedy-Dodd bill, the government would define a qualified plan:
    1. All health insurance would be required to have guaranteed issue and renewal, modified community rating, no exclusions for pre-existing conditions, no lifetime or annual limits on benefits, and family policies would have to cover “children” up to age 26. (more…)

Repost: Student Loans: Repayment based on income under new plan available July….some payments totally waived…after 25 years debt erased

REPOST: To learn if you qualify for Income Based Repayment or Public Service Loan Forgiveness programs, visit the following Web sites: and run by the U.S. Department of Education.

Your Money- Sandra Block:

Starting July 1, borrowers will have a new option: a repayment program that caps monthly payments based on income. It targets borrowers who would have a hard time paying basic living expenses if they had to make standard monthly payments on their loans, says Lauren Asher, acting president for the Project on Student Debt.

Under the income-based repayment program, such borrowers will never have to spend more than 15% of their discretionary income — an amount based on federal poverty guidelines — on student loan payments.

Most who qualify for the program won’t spend more than 10% of their income on student loans. Those whose income falls below 150% of the poverty level (see box) won’t be required to make any payments, Asher says…
