Hell’s Grannies: Congress Critters continue to call cops on peaceful constituents; is this a ‘teachable moment’?

Update: Coverage up at Ace and HA. HA notes these grannies were for single payer. Either way, without an ACORN sign or Al Sharpton apparently you get the boot…

You KNOW they would NEVER EVER call the cops on ACORN demonstrators, despite how rowdy and disruptive many of those demonstrations get, it would be raaaacist! But let a group of Senior Citizens sit in a conference room and ask to discuss the health care bill and they SET the MAN on their elderly axxes…unreal….keep up the heat! Gee you think Feinstein will invite the office staffers and the Seniors to sit down for a beer together?

SFGate via Drudge:

Police were called on a group of retirees who refused to leave Sen. Dianne Feinstein’s West Los Angeles office until she talked to them about health care reform. Los Angeles police Sergeant Rich Brunson said Thursday that police lured the group of seven outside somehow, then locked the building’s doors behind them. ..

A spokeswoman for the 55- to 87-year-old activists said they arrived at Feinstein’s office around noon and remained in her conference room more than six hours. Feinstein spokesman Gil Duran says staff offered the retirees an in-person meeting with the senator during a Los Angeles visit next week but that they demanded to speak with her immediately.

After referring to CONSTITUENT’s emails to OUR congressperson’s Chiefs of Staff as SPAM, Politico has another front page piece on the Town Hall’s at which REAL, unpaid, non-professional, non ‘community organizers’, have been appearing to voice our concerns with the out of control spending, in which they portray the Congress Critters (Dems) as put upon, and the PEOPLE as rabble rousers. But when the neoprogs organize it is ‘grass roots’. Uh huh. I cannot WAIT for 2010….send these people who do not even feel obligated to talk to us, or read our emails or read the damn legislation they pass, out of DC on a rail!

Alex Isenstadt:  Screaming constituents, protesters dragged out by the cops, congressmen fearful for their safety — welcome to the new town-hall-style meeting, the once-staid forum that is rapidly turning into a house of horrors for members of Congress.

On the eve of the August recess, members are reporting meetings that have gone terribly awry, marked by angry, sign-carrying mobs and disruptive behavior. In at least one case, a congressman has stopped holding town hall events because the situation has spiraled so far out of control. “I had felt they would be pointless,” Rep. Tim Bishop (D-N.Y.) told POLITICO, referring to his recent decision to temporarily suspend the events in his Long Island district. “There is no point in meeting with my constituents and [to] listen to them and have them listen to you if what is basically an unruly mob prevents you from having an intelligent conversation.” In Bishop’s case, his decision came on the heels of a June 22 event he held in Setauket, N.Y., in which protesters dominated the meeting by shouting criticisms at the congressman for his positions on energy policy, health care and the bailout of the auto industry. Within an hour of the disruption, police were called in to escort the 59-year-old Democrat — who has held more than 100 town hall meetings since he was elected in 2002 — to his car safely.

We posted this Bishop town hall video and it was very calm, rational constituents challenging his talking points, there was no ‘danger’. What a tool!

Market Mover Friday: GDP contracts 1% in Q2, Consumer Spending drops 1.2%…

Longest consecutive contraction in GDP since we began keeping records in ’47….PIMCO calls it the new normal under which we will have only 1-2% GDP for the foreseeable future. That GDP cannot sustain the deficit TOTUS is building…..Consumers are still keeping their light under a bushel….with Congress spending money like it’s going out of style and no jobs on the horizon MiM wonders why these business pundits express shock over the consumer spending number…..DEEP  DENIAL….*everybody’s talkin’ bout the new spending plan honey but it’s still a recession to me*

CNBC:

…Gross domestic product, which measures total goods and services output within U.S. borders, fell at a 1.0 percent annual rate, the Commerce Department said, after tumbling 6.4 percent in the January-March quarter, the biggest decline since a matching fall in the first quarter of 1982.It was previously reported as a 5.5 percent drop.

With the contraction in the second quarter, U.S. GDP has fallen for four straight quarters for the first time since government records started in 1947.

“It’s still a shaky outlook for the economy, but no shakier than before. No one’s world view will shift. Consumer spending is very shaky now. That’s the major risk in the economy,” said Pierre Ellis, senior economist at Decision Economics in New York.

Consumer spending, which accounts for over over two-thirds of U.S. economic activity, fell at a 1.2 percent rate in the second quarter after rising 0.6 percent in the previous quarter….

Finally some studio execs with sense !!!

Visit the official HBO site here

True Blood season two returned less than a year after season one began and has only been airing for a little more than a month, but it’s doing so well that HBO executives announced today that they have already picked up season three and that the plan is to return again in June 2010.

“I think one of the reasons we brought it back as soon as we did is we always felt it felt like a summer show,” said Michael Lombardo, president, programming group and west coast operations, in a press conference today in Pasadena, Calif., at the Television Critics Association summer press tour. “So the hope is to bring it back next summer.”

…HBO co-president Richard Plepler added that high ratings gave them the confidence to renew the show again. “The size of these shows has really broken through into the popular culture in a way we haven’t seen before,” Plepler said.

The executives were cagier about specific details on upcoming episodes. As fans await Evan Rachel Wood’s debut as the lesbian Vampire Queen of Louisiana, Lombardo only confirmed his own satisfaction with her footage.

“It totally delivers,” Lombardo said…
