accidental-health-insurancecom

An awesome report on a face to face meeting Ashville Tea Party Members had with Rep. Shuler today via Instapundit.

For those whose Critters are no longer holding Townhalls, try to make an appointment to see your Reps. and express your views as the AshvilleTeaParty group did. We are making an appointment with our local Critter as well…

AshvilleTeaParty (go read the whole thing!):

At 5:15 pm this evening, 8 representatives of the Asheville Tea Party and 1 Hendersonville Tea Partier were given a private audience with Congressman Heath Shuler…

Before we closed the meeting, Congressman Shuler told us he will vote no on HR3200…

…We ended our time by telling him we would relay the news that he is not “in hiding” if he will tell his colleagues in Washington that we are not a pitchfork wielding “angry mob.”…

We, the People…

Courtesy of Northshore912:, with a h/t to the wonderful commenters on HotAir who posted it (UnderstandingisPower, txmomof6…)

This resulted from a Mom in Alabama asking her high school son to help with a commercial for the Tea Party she was involved in organizing. Boy, does it slam the message home. Very impressive.
Here is her note:
“I asked Justin if he could help me make a commercial for my group’s Tea Party. He sat down at the laptop for about an hour, and then brought this to me and asked, ‘is this okay, Mom?’ After I finished watching it, my stomach was in my throat.
Everyone that I have sent it to has really enjoyed it, so I wanted my friends to see it. I am so proud!”
A very powerful video…turn up the sound & sit back…!!!

AZ State GOP keeps rockin’: State Legislature places health care freedom, secret ballot protection and affirmative action ban on 2010 ballot…

The Trifecta was passed on a party line vote. Let’s hope this brings AZ the jobs we sorely need post housing bubble collapse…AZ says Pshaw to Team TOTUS. Thank you legislators!! Keep on rockin me baby!!!!

AZCapitolTimes:

Three proposals to amend the Arizona Constitution will be heading to the 2010 ballot for voter consideration after gaining final approval from Republican lawmakers during a session dominated by the state’s financial crisis.

…three measures – a proposal to ban affirmative action, another to ensure Arizonans the right to choose their own health care plans, and a proposal mandating the right to vote in secret on labor-union issues – endured the legislative process to a successful conclusion. All three measures passed floor votes in the House and Senate without the help of a single Democrat…

Health Care Choice Protection sponsored by Rep. Nancy Barto, here she is on FOX earlier this year, courtesy of AmericanLegislative:

…allow Arizonans the freedom to purchase and provide health care services of their choice without penalty. The referendum, carried by Republican Rep. Nancy Barto of Phoenix…

And a proposal to include labor elections in the secret ballot provisions AZ guarantees, SCR1026:

…a referendum designed to thwart a federal proposal to implement what is known as “card-check” elections used to unionize business workforces.

The federal proposal, known as the Employee Free Choice Act, would do away with workforce organizing elections where workers cast their ballots in secrecy. The act mandates that a union would be formed if labor organizers secure the written approval of a majority of a business’ workers.

The state proposal, presented by Tucson Republican Sen. Jonathan Paton, would undercut the federal legislation by extending Arizonans’ right to secret-ballot elections to apply to organized labor….

The Affirmative Action ban failed to make it to the ballot last year but state reps. rescued the legislation, SCR1031:

…legislative efforts were led by Rep. Steve Montenegro, a freshman lawmaker from Litchfield Park..Montenegro, the only Hispanic Republican in the Legislature, said he objects to the use of racial- and gender-preference programs, declaring, “I’m appalled that my government thinks of me as a subclass.”

Opponents of the measure promise to defeat it at the polls:

…District 16 Democrat Rep. Cloves Campbell Jr., son of the state’s first black senator, vowed to oppose the measure and enlisted the support of the NAACP and Greater Phoenix Black Chamber of Commerce.

Campbell said he believes that racial preference programs are necessary to counter the fact that blacks were “held back for 400 years” in the United States, while they have only been allotted “40 years to catch up.”

“Overall, it’s still not time to do it,” Campbell said, regarding a ban on affirmative action. “I don’t think the playing field has been leveled.”…

Horror: Cabin in the Woods inside scoop….

SciFiWire has an interview up with Fran Kranz from Dollhouse, costar of Whedon’s horror paen Cabin in the Woods.

Our previous post on the film here

…Fran Kranz, the Dollhouse star who also appears in the upcoming horror movie Cabin in the Woods, calls it “basically Evil Dead meets The Truman Show.”

Writer/director Drew Goddard and co-writer/producer Joss Whedon remain secretive about the plot of the film, saying only that it will subvert the horror genre.

Kranz, who plays computer genius Topher in Whedon’s Fox series Dollhouse, wouldn’t elaborate on his own intriguing description of the movie, saying only that it has to do with “the order in which these people kind of die,” he said in an exclusive interview Thursday at the Television Critics Association summer press tour in Pasadena, Calif. ..

…Like the familiar story, each of the five teens fills an archetypal role before the film shakes things up. “I’m the party guy,” Kranz said. “I’m that guy. You know how it is. There’s the jock guy. There’s the virginal kind of girl. There’s the party slutty girl. There’s the kind of nice guy who kind of gets the girl. Then there’s the stoner. I’m that guy. I’m the party animal stoner guy, and it’s a lot of fun to play.”…

Sounds like good horror fun to me. The film opens February 5th, 2010…

UPDATE 2: DeMint and Rangel support UE extension…Reid confirms: Rep. McDermott (D-WA)to introduce 13 wk Unemployment extension Bill in Fall…

Update 2: Tuesday 8/11: More support for the 13 wk UE extension in the Fall session as Geithner says UE will peak in second half of 2010..

Bloomberg:

The U.S. unemployment rate may not peak until the second half of 2010, even as the broader economy shows signs of improvement, U.S. Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner said.Another extension in unemployment benefits “is something that the administration and Congress are going to look very carefully at as we get closer to the end of this year,” Geithner said in an interview yesterday on ABC’s “This Week” program.

…Summers said the Obama administration will work with Congress to “do what’s necessary to make sure appropriate unemployment benefits are available.”

Congressman Charles Rangel, chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, said he supports extending unemployment insurance benefits for another 13 weeks. “There’s no question, they deserve it,” he said on Fox News Sunday. “They are the true victims of this fiscal disaster.”

Senator Jim DeMint, a South Carolina Republican, said he’ll “definitely support” extending unemployment benefits….

YGN: G.I. Joe Preview…

Vodpod videos no longer available.

Courtesy of YourGeekNews:

Oh boy… do we have a treat for you! Four clips from G.I.Joe — barf. We’re really not impressed with this one so far. Between the goofy suits of armour and the lack of a Russian accent on the Baroness our hopes are pretty low for this one. But Christopher Eccleston and Joseph Gordon-Levitt making up the other Cobra villains are actually worth watching, so there’s a chance we can enjoy a scene here and there. Our request: can the sequel be called simply “Cobra” so we can see more of the villains? And just leave out any Wayans brothers, please? ~Matt + Nat
