Update: Dems killed amendment allowing reimportation of RXs from Canada…John Barrasso (R-WY, M.D.) on Medicare Advantage and TOTUS plans to kill it…

Update: From CQPolitics the real deal on who killed RXs from Canada:

In spite of its overwhelming focus on overhauling the health care system, the administration has been silent on one of Obama’s signature health care promises: allowing consumers to import drugs made in FDA-approved facilities in countries where they are often sold for less.

During the campaign, Obama charged that some drugmakers were exploiting Americans by charging premiums of as much as 67 percent higher than the prices they charge for the same medicines in Europe and Canada.

But Obama’s administration has since cut a deal with the pharmaceutical industry in which drugmakers promised to provide $80 billion in discounts to seniors and the government over 10 years to help pay the cost of a health system overhaul.

Here’s some more of that irony we referred to:

Ironically, Obama’s 2008 presidential opponent, Sen. John McCain , R-Ariz., offered an amendment during debate on a Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee health plan that would have written such an importation provision into law. Democrats helped defeat it by a 10-12 vote, arguing that allowing access to the cheaper drugs from abroad was potentially dangerous in light of all the hazards Americans have faced in recent months from risky imported products.

Barrasso, who is also a doctor, also defends Medicare Advantage plans or Medicare HMO’s, and at the same time takes Obama to task for double talk at town halls, telling people they can “keep the plan they have,” yet Obama admits he wants to eliminate Medicare HMO’s. They accomplish a lot of things “that Medicare doesn’t do,” he argues….

Barrasso is pointing out what Team TOTUS knows, there is NO BILL. That was part of their strategy. Daschle wanted his ABC Anything But Clinton method, with no bill so there would be limited time to criticize it. Well they got what they wanted. A mess. No leadership. ABC right neoprogs? STOP THE MEDICARE CUTS!

Every Senior I know is on Medicare Advantage or wants to be. It DOES cover many “ancillary” services not covered by Medicare, you know, vision, that sort of thing…Eliminating the $150m in Advantage will kill the plan. Especially in rural areas which are already without services…it IS a Medicare cut, period.

When we moderates were leading the party, we used to FIGHT MEDICARE CUTS. But silly me, now we are supposed to pat pharma on the back, block Canadian reimportation of RXS and gut Medicare and call that a victory according to the neoprogressives. Insane.

In other news Mike Ross (D-AR) leader of the Blue Dog coalition, the man who caved and let the HR3200 horror out of Waxman’s Energy Cmte, is on the record that he won’t vote for a bill that kills old people. What a maroon. Not sure if he is serious or facetious. He is the nincompoop who let it out of committee with the IMAC language in it and pgs 432 on which have the SHALL consultations, not MAY consultations, SHALL. That is a big difference in the law, ask any constitutional lawyer/community organizer.

Mad Men Season 3 premieres tonight: Matthew Weiner…

Mathew Weiner talks about how advertising has not changed since the 1960’s.

WSJ has a piece on the show today:

…So one night I turn on my TV and there it is, just as I remember it. The color of the walls, the interoffice envelopes, the smell of cigarettes everywhere, the sound of clinking ice cubes, and all these beautifully dressed, immaculately groomed people….

…In one episode when Sterling Cooper is pitching the business for the new Kodak Wheel, Don makes a speech in which he actually renames the product. “It’s a time machine. It goes backwards, forwards. It takes us to a place where we ache to go again. It’s not called the Wheel. It’s called the Carousel.” That’s the most brilliant copywriting I’ve ever come across on a television show…

Reality Bites: Tragedy for the Left as TOTUS deals with big pharma behind closed doors…

The Obots are discovering that Reality Bites. Because he is NOT the change they were looking for. All the BS about eeeeeevil Hillary who was in the pocket of lobbyists (she wanted to work WITH the corporations this time after she locked them out of negotiations and failed in 93), and eeeevil John McCain and Sarah Palin who were decried as corporate tools, was just that TOTAL UNMITIGATED BS. TOTUS is the one locking the doors and making deals under the table. It is the constituents who are locked out this time..Rude Awakening for the Obots…

HotAir:

Take it away, Michael Brenner.

Let’s face the harsh reality — Obama has blown health care reform, big time. The opportunity of a lifetime has been squandered. The most recent revelations about backroom deals with Pharma and the other vendors of medical services drops the curtain on any hope of serious change in our costly and inefficient non-system. This is a painful admission to make. Not only does the country remain handicapped by grossly sub-par arrangements for health delivery, we also are burdened with a president who has been discredited as a progressive dedicated to a betterment of how we conduct public business….

It is Barack Obama who is to blame for this. For months, he stayed aloof from the out-of-control Congressional maneuvering based on a strange belief in some kind of bipartisan collective will emerging by osmosis. He never leaned the weight of his person and his office to elements of reform that has been touting as candidate and then President. He deceived the country by pursuing secret talks with the very lobbies who are the heart of disgraceful national health care situation. He entered into deals that were weighted heavily in their selfish interest rather than the national interest. In short, we have gotten from him the antithesis of what we were promised and expected — in the substance and process of policy both. We have instead a conventionally minded politician overly respectful of the status quo and deferential to those who control and profit from it, A man with no apparent fixed convictions….

Gen X could’ve told the Obots that Reality Bites….

Update: Sunday Chatter: Kent Conrad (D-ND) and Sebelius both back off public option: the Federally funded co-op is now the term of choice…(and with Federal Funds it will still kill private insurance)

Update: Monday 8/17: Just like the Clash, Team TOTUS is unsure if they should stay or go on public option lol, they are releasing spin via Ambinder (who failed to get their ‘townhalls folks are hurting the GOP side’ meme to take effect, but not for lack of trying on his part, lol), that Sebelius ‘misspoke’, then another WH aide, off record OF COURSE! said no she didn’t misspeak, the MEDIA misrepresented what she said..uhm yeah okay go with that…YOU CANNOT TRUST ANYTHING THESE GUYS SAY PEEPS…GET IT IN WRITING BIG PHARMA, Dumb bunnies…..

An administration official told Marc Ambinder that HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius “misspoke” when she told CNN that a government run health insurance option “is not an essential part” of reform.

“This official asked not to be identified in exchange for providing clarity about the intentions of the President. The official said that the White House did not intend to change its messaging and that Sebelius simply meant to echo the president, who has acknowledged that the public option is a tough sell in the Senate and is, at the same time, a must-pass for House Democrats, and is not, in the president’s view, the most important element of the reform package.

See you at the RECESS RALLY!!!!

And it means nothing because we can trust them about 1/4 as far as we can throw them, although I think I could throw them pretty far….especially if we started with Jaeger shots…(just sayin’)….but it is a sign of cracks in the facade of happy changey hopey dopey land….

Conrad has been pushing co-op but FEDERALLY FUNDED so it is in effect a frakkin PUBLIC OPTION…maroons…

If they want small groups to be able to pool risk and premiums go with Multiple Employer Trusts which I used to process claims for in TX, this way small business gets group rates, NO PUBLIC MONEY REQUIRED….

Free interstate insurance commerce from Federal red tape! ….geez it would be simple were they not trying to Trojan Horse a single payer plan through wouldn’t it? Wyden-Bennett would work….but NO CO-OP GOVT PLAN BY ANOTHER NAME…frakkers…

TheHill:

A public health insurance option took more hits Sunday as Sen. Kent Conrad described its pursuit as a “wasted effort” and an administration official said it is not an “essential” part of reform.

Conrad (D-N.D.), who supports setting up health insurance co-operatives with government seed money to compete with private insurers, described the public option as all but a lost cause.

“Look, the fact of the matter is there are not the votes in the U.S. Senate for the public option, there never have been,” Conrad said in an interview on “Fox News Sunday with Chris Wallace.”  “So to continue to chase that rabbit is, I think, a wasted effort,” Conrad said.

His comments followed Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius’s remark that a public option is “not the essential element” to ensure competition in the health insurance market. Sebelius made the remark on CNN’s “State of the Union,” according to a report in the Associated Press….

Gee, TOTUS has been saying ad nauseum that the public option IS necessary to do just that, ensure competition. On which I call BS…

Question, if there is no yearly or lifetime claims max on people and you cannot pre-ex them or drop their coverage, how can you possibly have enough cash reserves from premiums and ROI (return on investments) to cover pending and potential future claims?

TOTUS Grand Junction, CO Townhall…more rhetoric, still no solid answers…

Courtesy of johnarthurkane:

We gathered in Grand Junction Colorado, peacefully exercising our First Amendment Rights, to protest the President’s and the Democrat controlled Congress attempt to gut and ruin our Health Care System. There were thousands in attendance to protest in the morning. In all fairness, the Democrats bused in a bunch of folks from Utah (who were in Montana the day before) to support the changes. There were about equal numbers for and against outside of Central High School, about a quarter mile from where the President lectured in his Town Hall (this was as close as we were allowed to approach)
