NYDailyNews:

Derek Jeter is no longer the Prince of New York. He’s the Hit King.

The shortstop passed Lou Gehrig on the Yankees‘ all-time hits list on Friday night, singling against Orioles rookie Chris Tillman in the third inning.

Jeter was the center of attention from the moment the Yankees took the field, as the crowd waited out an 87-minute rain delay in order to witness history. Jeter received a loud ovation after catching a pop up to end the top of the first, then fans went crazy when he emerged from the dugout in between innings to prepare for his first at-bat.

Flahsbulbs popped continuously from the second he stepped into the batters box, as the crowd buzzed with anticipation. Jeter took Tillman’s first pitch for a called strike, then took a big hack at his second offering, falling into an 0-2 count.

Jeter took a ball, then fouled one back to the backstop, but Tillman caught him off-guard with a curveball, striking him out.

Jeter led off the third inning for his second at-bat, as Tillman started him off with a pair of balls. Jeter lined the 2-0 pitch past first baseman Luke Scott to move past Gehrig, a hit virtually identical to the one that tied Gehrig’s mark in the seventh inning on Wednesday.

The entire Yankees dugout emptied on to the field to congratulate Jeter, with Alex Rodriguez reaching him first, giving him a big hug. Each of Jeter’s teammates took their turn to show their support for him, then he acknowledged the crowd with a few tips of his helmet. Orioles players stood on the top step of their dugout, applauding Jeter for his accomplishment….

HotAir: Census cuts ACORN loose…

AllahPundit has the scoop at HA:

(…)Update: This is not the ACORN they thought they knew, although, um, it is for pretty much everyone else.

“We do not come to this decision lightly,” Census director Robert Groves wrote in a letter to ACORN, which was obtained by The Associated Press.

In splitting with ACORN, Groves sought to tamp down GOP concerns and negative publicity that the partnership will taint the 2010 head count.

“It is clear that ACORN’s affiliation with the 2010 census promotion has caused sufficient concern in the general public, has indeed become a distraction from our mission, and may even become a discouragement to public cooperation, negatively impacting 2010 census efforts,” Groves wrote….

GOP Health Care Plan: HR 3400: Empowering Patients First Act

accidental-health-insurancecom

An email update from Rep Tom Rooney R-FL:

This week Congress came back into session after the August recess and the debate on health care reform was at the forefront.

On Wednesday night President Obama addressed a joint session of Congress to explain his goals for health care reform.  I was hoping the President had been listening to the American people over the past month, and would constructively address their concerns with his current health care proposal.  From the town hall meetings I hosted in August, it is clear to me that Floridians have had enough of the rapid expansion of government, especially when it comes to such a personal issue like health care. Yet, the Obama Administration and Congressional Democrats refuse to change course and continue pushing a bill on the American people that they do not want.

I have co-sponsored a bill called the Empowering Patients First Act (H.R. 3400), which focuses on increasing patients’ control over their health decisions, will make coverage more affordable, accessible and responsive, while offering more choices and the highest-quality care. This legislation includes a number of reforms that would help lower health care costs, without drastically increasing the size and scope of government or implementing tax hikes….

From the Republican Study Committee Official Web Site:

Putting Patients First!

RSC Chairman Tom Price has introduced H.R. 3400, the Empowering Patients First Act.  This is another positive solution from the Republican Study Committee that grants access to affordable, quality health care for all Americans, and is centered around the patient.  By increasing patients’ control over their health decisions, we will make coverage more affordable, accessible and responsive, while offering more choices and the highest-quality care.

This solution is centered around four main principles:

#1:  Access to Coverage for All Americans

  • The Empowering Patients First Act makes the purchase of health care financially feasible for all Americans, covers pre-existing conditions, protects employer-sponsored insurance, and shines light on existing health care plans.

#2:  Coverage is Truly Owned by the Patient

  • This legislation grants greater choice and portability to the patient, and also gives employers more flexibility in the benefits offered.  It also expands the individual market by creating several pooling mechanisms.

#3:  Improve the Health Care Delivery Structure

  • Physicians know the best care for their patient.  That’s why this legislation establishes doctor-led quality measures, ensuring that you get the quality care you need.  It also reimburses physicians to ensure the stability of your care, and encourages healthier lifestyles by allowing employers to offer discounts for healthy habits through wellness and prevention programs.

#4:  Rein in Out-of-Control Costs

  • A key concern in positive reform is reining in out-of control costs.  This legislation does this by reforming the medical liability system.  Also, the cost of the plan is completely offset through decreasing defensive medicine, savings from health care efficiencies, sifting out waste, fraud and abuse, plus an annual one-percent non defense discretionary spending step down.
  • (AWESOME! Finally someone gets a clue!-MiM)

ACORN – it’s hard out there for a pimp…

Absolutely sickening. ACORN needs to be indicted under RICO. Our Justice Dept is busy getting Andrew ‘birth truther’ Sullivan off his pot possession arrest. Who’s politicizing JUSTICE? Team TOTUS that’s who.

OBIIT MDCCCXXXIII.

By Alfred, Lord Tennyson

STRONG Son of God, immortal Love,
Whom we, that have not seen thy face,
By faith, and faith alone, embrace,
Believing where we cannot prove;
Thine are these orbs of light and shade;
Thou madest Life in man and brute;
Thou madest Death; and lo, thy foot
Is on the skull which thou hast made.
Thou wilt not leave us in the dust:
Thou madest man, he knows not why,
He thinks he was not made to die;
And thou hast made him: thou art just.
Thou seemest human and divine,
The highest, holiest manhood, thou:
Our wills are ours, we know not how;
Our wills are ours, to make them thine.
Our little systems have their day;
They have their day and cease to be:
They are but broken lights of thee,
And thou, O Lord, art more than they.
We have but faith: we cannot know;
For knowledge is of things we see;
And yet we trust it comes from thee,
A beam in darkness: let it grow.
Let knowledge grow from more to more,
But more of reverence in us dwell;
That mind and soul, according well,
May make one music as before,
But vaster. We are fools and slight;
We mock thee when we do not fear:
But help thy foolish ones to bear;
Help thy vain worlds to bear thy light.
Forgive what seem’d my sin in me;
What seem’d my worth since I began;
For merit lives from man to man,
And not from man, O Lord, to thee.
Forgive my grief for one removed,
Thy creature, whom I found so fair.
I trust he lives in thee, and there
I find him worthier to be loved.
Forgive these wild and wandering cries,
Confusions of a wasted youth;
Forgive them where they fail in truth,
And in thy wisdom make me wise.
1849.
