The Festival returns to Mill Avenue in a familiar spot.  MADCAP Theaters (which took over the Harkins Centerpoint) is the new home of the IHSFFF and we are glad to be back in the City of Tempe.  The Festival will kick off on Thursday, October 15th with our Opening Night Event featuring a screening of “Starship Troopers” with a special guest appearance by the film’s star Casper Van Dien (Johnny Rico).

Then on Friday, October 16th, we’ll be rocking 3 screens with some of the best in independent horror and sci-fi flicks. We’ll also be featuring the original “Night of the Living Dead” that night with a special guest appearance from Judith O’Dea (Barbra). Films will continue into the night, featuring retro and late night fare. Don’t forget about the party that night featuring the Gore Girl Competition. After all what’s a Festival, without a party.

On Saturday, October 17th the finest in independent Horror and Sci-fi feature and shorts will be continue to be screened as the competition films take center stage. In the evening we’ll be inducting Marilyn Burns into the International Horror and Sci-Fi Film Festival Hall of Fame and screening her classic film, “Texas Chainsaw Massacre”. Later that night will be the legendary, Saturday Night Costume Party featuring a cash prize costume contest. Bring out your best costumes.

Then on Sunday, October 18th the films continue to roll on three screens. More indie and retro titles will be scattered throughout the day. We’ve also got our Closing Night Film. Then we’ll close out the Festival with the Closing Night Party where we’ll give away the awards and put this baby to bed.

Update: Paramount is expanding screening times based on good ticket sales! Courtesy of SciFiWire:

You don’t have to wait up until midnight to see the ultra-scary movie Paranormal Activity anymore. The film has been so successful running only at 12 a.m. that distributor Paramount has decided to give it earlier showings starting Oct. 9. Deadline.com reports that Paramount is pretty excited about the performance so far:

This doesn’t happen that often, so I don’t blame Paramount for crowing about its freakishly good numbers for Paranormal Activity, which will do $500K this weekend on 33 screens playing ONLY after midnight. That’s a $15K screen average for midnight business. Yikes! It did $150K Thursday and took in another $200K on Friday after selling out every theater.
