Virginia Democratic gubernatorial nominee Creigh Deeds said in an interview that he was lagging in the polls entering the final weeks of the campaign in part because of voter concerns over his national party’s agenda.
“Frankly, a lot of what’s going on in Washington has made it very tough,” Deeds said in a “Battleground Virginia” interview sponsored by ABC 7/WJLA-TV, POLITICO, Google and YouTube. “We had a very tough August because people were just uncomfortable with the spending; they were uncomfortable with a lot of what was going on, a lot of the noise that was coming out of Washington, D.C.”
As one of two off-year governor’s races — the other is New Jersey — that are being closely watched for signals about the 2010 midterm election landscape, the factors behind Deeds’s struggles to date are being studied closely in both parties….

Nice work Janet! Our former Arizona Governor, now head of DHS, strips our county sheriffs of their 287G authority. Way to keep the borders open…Our previous posts on the program, and ACORN, Rev Al Sharpton and Holder’s politicized attempts to end it here.
Sheriff Joe, as always, pulls no punches. He says this is purely political, he backs that up with evidence, they have finally gotten the DHS Audit report (from back channels) MCSO got an A+ and they are still the only agency having their agent status stripped away. Sheriff Joe makes it clear the WH is playing politics with local law enforcement and the safety of Arizonans and ALL AMERICANS as they leave our border wide open.
Sheriff Joe is represented by the former head of the Civil Rights Division of the Justice Dept. He got the complaint opened of the much reported ; FBI investigations for profiling’ CNN et al covered. One complaint was filed on Sheriff Joe with the FBI AZ AIC , it was filed by Phoenix Mayor Phil Gordon (see our April 2008 post of MCSO Deputies saying ‘Mayor Gordon shut up. How dare you call us racist!?!’)
Recall it was Bertha Lewis and ACORN who got this ball rolling,. At whose instructions I wonder?? Who has an interest in our illegal population dropping 30% as they prepare amnesty for a presumed permanent voting bloc? Yeah exactly. Again politics ahead of national security in Team TOTUS.
AZ brave MCSO has MiM’s full support. Sheriff Joe is our sheriff and we are proud of him. He is currently enjoying his fifth term here and has wonderful approval ratings.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency on Tuesday announced it would halt its $1 million fire prevention grant to ACORN — a decision Republican lawmakers have since praised.
The Department of Homeland Security initially earmarked the money for ACORN before House and Senate lawmakers mobilized to cut the group’s access to federal dollars. But news of the award emerged much later, after the ACORN furor had subsided.

Nearly $1 million in Homeland Security funding typically earmarked for fire departments has been awarded to ACORN, despite a clear signal from Congress that it intends to cut off federal funding to the embattled group.
The grant to ACORN’s Louisiana office became public on Oct. 2, less than three weeks after the House and Senate voted to cut off ACORN funding after employees were caught on video advising a fake prostitute and pimp on scams.
It was one of only three such grants issued to the state and made up almost 80 percent of the firefighting money earmarked for Louisiana, prompting one of the U.S. senators from the state to demand that the funds be taken back.
“I request that you rescind this grant based on a history of abuse of federal dollars by ACORN and their clear lack of expertise in this area,” said Sen. David Vitter, Louisiana Republican….

The Obama administration is curbing the powers of an Arizona sheriff who has led one of the most contentious fights against illegal immigrants.
Under an agreement involving local enforcement of federal immigration law, Sheriff Joe Arpaio’s deputies will no longer have the authority to arrest suspected illegal immigrants in the streets in the course of their duty……Unlike others participating in the program, Mr. Arpaio will be restricted to determining the immigration status of inmates booked into Maricopa County jails. Vincent Picard, an ICE spokesman in Phoenix, declined to comment. ICE is a unit of the Department of Homeland Security.
…Since February 2007, Mr. Arpaio has arrested about 30,000 illegal immigrants who were booked into jails in his county…”They took away my authority on the streets. That doesn’t matter because I will still pursue illegals on the streets of Maricopa utilizing the authority I have as the elected official,” Mr. Arpaio said Tuesday in an interview…

Update 2: Oh this is IMO a very very bad sign. It sounds like TOTUS will do what McChrystal called the worse case scenario. Send in less troops than the Generals say is needed but not withdraw, leaving our people unprotected:

But based on his zigzagging so far and the suggestion from the Copenhagen trip that the somber seriousness of the presidency has yet to sink in, we have reason to wonder.

It’s official, Nancy Pelosi is in the Twilight Zone. She told PBS last night a VAT tax is on the table (The Hill):
Pelosi, appearing on PBS’s “The Charlie Rose Show” asserted that “it’s fair to look at” the VAT as part of an overhaul of the nation’s tax code. “I would say, Put everything on the table and subject it to the scrutiny that it deserves,” Pelosi told Rose when asked if the VAT has any appeal to her.
The VAT is a tax on manufacturers at each stage of production on the amount of value an additional producer adds to a product.Pelosi argued that the VAT would level the playing field between U.S. and foreign manufacturers, the latter of which do not have pension and healthcare costs included in the price of their goods because their governments provide those services, financed by similar taxes.
“They get a tax off of that and they use that money to pay the healthcare for their own workers,” Pelosi said, using the example of auto manufacturers. “So their cars coming into our country don’t have a healthcare component cost.
Gee, wonder why Nancy is raising AUTO MANUFACTURERS, the PENSION LIABILITIES and a VAT TAX now? Could it be b/c GM has ALREADY BURNED THROUGH THE 50B in taxpayer dollars and the UAW cannot meet their pension obligations? Could be rabbit could be…
“Somewhere along the way, a value-added tax plays into this. Of course, we want to take down the healthcare cost, that’s one part of it,” the Speaker added. “But in the scheme of things, I think it’s fair look at a value- added tax as well.”
Pelosi said that any new taxes would come after the Congress finishes the healthcare debate consuming most lawmakers’ time, and that it may come as part of a larger overhaul to the tax code.
Everyone got that? As soon as they are done ramming healthcare through they will lay a VAT tax on our axxes. Everyone is registered to vote for 2010 right?

The latest health-overhaul bill from the Senate will cost $829 billion over a decade and provide insurance coverage to 91% of U.S. residents, according to an analysis released Wednesday by the Congressional Budget Office.
The price tag for the Senate Finance Committee’s sweeping health bill is in line with President Barack Obama’s request that the overhaul cost about $900 billion over a decade and not add to the federal deficit. But the estimate of how far it will expand insurance coverage is lower than what Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus (D., Mont.) had initially targeted.
According to the CBO, the bill would reduce the federal budget deficit by $81 billion over 10 years.
The within-budget cost estimate paves the way for the Finance Committee to pass the overhaul bill as soon as this week, marking a significant step forward for the president’s top domestic priority. Senate leaders will then merge it with another bill, from the Senate health committee, before taking it to a vote on the Senate floor….
