Steny Hoyer: House to pass Jobs Bill by Dec 18th, to include further unemployment extension, COBRA addition and infrastructure & Is Obama planning a 3 trillion dollar tax increase?, plus the rationing begins, women first

(We are combining posts for time under the light blog schedule for the Holidays)

Job Creation Bill:

iMarketNews:

House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer Tuesday said that Democrats want to pass a jobs creation bill in the House by December 18, the day he hopes Congress will adjourn for the year.At his weekly briefing, Hoyer said House Democrats are now reviewing “a lot of options” to boost job creation, including infrastructure spending, a highway bill, business tax credits for job creation, another extension of unemployment insurance, an adjustment to COBRA and assistance to state governments.

Hoyer said he “would not characterize” the package that is being developed as the second stimulus bill of 2009. Congress passed a $787 billion fiscal stimulus bill in February. The measure, he said, would be “targeted on jobs.” “We’re moving ahead,” he said.

The House Majority Leader said the package will be devised to boost job creation in the short-term, suggesting that any offsets would occur later after the economy picks up speed. The bill, he said, would spend funds early and then “flatten out” our expenditures as the economy grows.

He said the overall size of the package has not been determined. “I don’t have a figure,” he said, when asked about the cost of the bill. Hoyer said that unless the American economy begins to create jobs “we will not have the kind of recovery we want.”…

Marvel’s Thor casts Warrior’s Three, Anthony Hopkins and Natalie Portman also cast

I can’t wait. So glad Kenneth Branagh is doing this one. Variety has it:

“Thor” helmer Kenneth Branagh has locked Stuart Townsend, Ray Stevenson, and Tadanobu Asano to play Warrior’s Three, a trio of Asgardian adventurers who fight alongside the Norse god in the Marvel Entertainment drama.Anthony Hopkins, Tom Hiddleston and Natalie Portman also star in the pic scripted by Mark Protosevich and Zack Stentz. Paramount Pictures will release “Thor” on May 20, 2011….

More from FirstShowing.net:

Way back before we knew that Chris Hemsworth had been cast to play Thor, one of the originally rumored candidates for the role was Alexander Skarsgard (who is currently on “True Blood”), the son of more well known actor Stellan Skarsgard. According to a report from ComingSoon (that comes from a translation of a Swedish write-up via TT Spektra in Sweden), Stellan Skarsgard revealed that he has joined the cast of Kenneth Branagh’s Thor in a role that he can’t yet reveal. Stellan is still an incredibly talented actor and I gained even more respect for him after Pirates of the Caribbean (where he played Will Turner’s father).

The Swedish article claims “Skarsgård is ready for a role in action movie Thor” and includes this quote: “They wanted me to sign without reading the script. That I refused to do. Then they sent one to me that was so coded that I could only print one copy.” ….With Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Jaimie Alexander, Tom Hiddleston, and now Stellan Skarsgard, Kenneth Branagh has rounded up one hell of a great cast for Thor..

On the casting of Chris Hemsworth (Kirk’s dad in ST 2009!):

It looks like we finally have our Thor! After months and months of casting rumors, Nikki Finke at Deadline Hollywood is reporting that Australian actor Chris Hemsworth has been cast as the Norse God of Thunder. You may not know Hemsworth by name yet, but if you’ve seen Star Trek, you know his face – he played Kirk’s father George Kirk in the opening of that movie. Finke says that he got the role through some insistence on the part of his agent, and once he got on tape for a reading the second time, he was in. Hemsworth also scored the lead role in MGM’s remake of Red Dawn that’s also in development this year….
