Update: Reid files cloture motions; TheHill: ‘Pharma deal holding up bipartisan rx health amendment’

Update from Kaiser, appears Dingy Harry is going to pull a fast one and IS blocking the RX Reimportation Bill from a vote, 200 Billion a year Americans spend on their RXs. Well this is just one more nail in the electoral coffin for the Democratic majority:

CongressDaily: “Senate Majority Leader [Harry] Reid plans to file a package of cloture motions next week that would allow a final vote on healthcare legislation before the Senate goes home for Christmas, a leadership aide said today.” He plans to offer “simultaneous cloture motions” for the overall bill, for a substitute amendment and for a manager’s amendment containing “key compromises.” The plan “came to light as senators from both parties wondered why leaders have not scheduled a vote on an amendment to allow reimportation of cheaper prescription drugs, which appears to have enough votes to pass” (Friedman and Edney, 12/10).

In a time of incredibly high unemployment, at least three Democratic Senators are blocking a bipartisan amendment that has the votes to pass, that will save many Americans hundreds of dollars a year or more on their health care costs..

Democratic senators from states home to pharmaceutical companies, including Tom Carper (Del.), Frank Lautenberg (N.J.) and Robert Menendez (N.J.), object to the amendment, citing concerns about ensuring the safety of medicines entering the U.S. supply chain from foreign sources. Congress Daily has reported that Carper (D-Del.) placed a hold on the amendment, but his office refused to comment to The Hill….

Okay neoprogs and libs still believing in Teh Oneness, riddle me this. Why oh why would The Hill which loves them some Obama report that the WH deal and the 3 Pharma state DEMOCRATIC Senators are blocking a TRUE BIPARTISAN, COST SAVING BILL THAT HAS THE VOTES TO PASS, THAT THIS PRESIDENT CAMPAIGNED ON??? Because it is true.

The message did not seem mixed to McCain, whom Obama defeated in the race for the White House last year. “The fix is in,” he said.

Durbin, asked if they are WHIPPING AGAINST THIS AMENDMENT, didnt say No, he said ‘well we did ask how they are voting…” THE FRAKKERS!!! One of the ONLY effective price reforms that will directly, immediately LOWER healthcare costs to AMERICAN CONSUMERS and they are KILLING IT?

Please call these yahoos and tell them WE DEMAND A VOTE!! Prescription reimportation should be allowed in FREE MARKETS with OPEN TRADE!!!!

TheHill:

A deal between the White House and the pharmaceutical industry is holding up a bipartisan amendment to allow the importation of cheaper prescription drugs from abroad, according to a member of the Senate Democratic leadership.

…Dorgan’s measure, which would permit bulk exports of medicines from countries such as Canada, enjoys broad and bipartisan support and likely has the backing of more than 60 senators, which would guarantee its adoption on the healthcare reform bill.

Tension between the White House and Democratic supporters of the so-called drug reimportation amendment is primarily behind the delay, Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) said Thursday.

“There’s a political subtext here,” Durbin said. “It has to do with whether or not we can do as part of the impact on pharma in this bill and whether or not there are other things that are higher priorities.”

The White House and the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA) struck a deal this summer to limit the drug industry’s financial exposure under reform to $80 billion over 10 years, though its terms have never been fully disclosed.

President Barack Obama was one of the 35 co-sponsors of Dorgan’s drug reimportation legislation when Obama served in the Senate. In addition, White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel was a leading supporter of the House version of the bill when he served in the lower chamber….

HYPOCRITES!!!! And these Obots who railed against the Big Dawg and HRC are silent on this????? WTH???!?!?!?

MAC makes it clear it is the WH deal with Pharma driving this. FDL incorrectly reports the WH supports this amendment and it is not part of the Pharma deal based on GIBBS of all people HA!!! I don;t believe it for a second, FDA has been promised the drug sellers will cover the safety protocol costs, it is in Dorgan’s Amendment. Tauzin NAMED this as part of the deal I betcha. Carper talked all about how important the deal was during markup of the Baucus bill when he blocked this amendment the first time.

FRAKKERS!!!!!! WE WANT A VOTE! Any Senator who claims to be voting for healthcare TO SAVE MONEY for taxpayers/consumers and votes AGAINST allowing Americans to buy their RXs from Canada is a fool. Let’s GET THEM ON THE RECORD. 2010 cannot come soon enough.

...The health care reform drive is in a holding pattern as Senate Democrats feud over an amendment that would allow cheaper re-importation of drugs from countries like Canada.

Sens. Byron Dorgan, D-N.D., and Olympia Snowe, R-Maine, together with 30 co-sponsors, introduced an amendment that would allow for an influx of cheaper prescription drugs from certain countries — all under tight Food and Drug Administration restrictions. Dorgan has fought for the change for a decade, and it was previously supported by President Obama when he was a senator and White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel when he was a representative.

But Sen. Tom Carper, D-Del., as well as at least one other Democrat, according to Dorgan, have put the brakes on any action on the amendment. It’s up to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid to settle the dispute in order to move forward on health care reform.

Carper defends his opposition by pointing to a letter he received earlier this week from the FDA laying out its concerns.

…But Sen. John McCain. R-Ariz., another co-sponsor, says he knows the real reason for the resistance. “We all know what this is about. We all know it’s the deal that Pharma cut … Come on, let’s not kid each other. It’s all about they made a deal with Pharma, and Pharma wants that deal to hold. That means no drug re-importation, no competition.”

McCain was referring to the deal the White House struck earlier this year with the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA). As part of it, the industry pledged an $80 billion reduction in costs and the administration agreed not to push for anything beyond that — meaning re-importation.

Dorgan, incensed by the block, told reporters he is prepared to hold up any action on health care reform over the matter.”I insist that we get our vote,” he said.

Reid, who according to an aide has not taken a position on the amendment, would then have to file a procedural move that takes 60 votes to overcome if he wants to move forward on his health care bill.

Dorgan said he has many new protections in the new version of the re-importation legislation and that the FDA’s letter “could have come from a copy machine,” arguing that the concerns were just copied from previous years. Dorgan accused Carper of not reading the amendment….

Housing: Treasury HAMP/Making Home Affordable Modification Servicer Status Report: just 31,000 mods made permanent

Vodpod videos no longer available.

EPIC fail. Will have video up shortly. Diana Olick broke it down, of the 3 million delinquent mortgage pool in the report,  1 million eligible, then down to 700,000 made trial mods then 30,000 of those FAILED trial mods and 31,000 passed into permanent mod status.

The % they are reaching is laughable (in an hysterical crying and screaming sort of way). The program was supposed to help 4 MILLION HOMEOWNERS. They have helped 31,000. THIS MORNING Geithner was claiming they were making meaningful progress. Gawd help us.

CNBC:

So far the 78 banks and servicers in the HAMP, which represent 85 percent of the total mortgage market, have just over 3 million loans on their books that are at least 60 days past due. So they sent out notices to those 3 million borrowers requesting more information.

A lot of those borrowers (as high as 50 percent) didn’t respond, according to the banks. Some don’t even live in the houses anymore. Gone. Of those that did respond, just over a million had at least the verbally stated income to qualify for a modification under the program. Others were either not owner-occupants, didn’t have the income level, or were unemployed. So 1,032,837 were offered modifications. But only 759,058 modifications were started. Why? Because a lot of the borrowers just didn’t want them. They would rather try to sell the house or go into foreclosure and walk away. Remember, some borrowers are so underwater on their loans, that they will never see equity again, so why bother making any modification payment, even if it is affordable.

Of the 759,058 modifications started, 697,026 are still in the three month trial phase. That’s when you’re supposedly making your monthly payment and gathering all the necessary documentation for the modification. Since the program really kicked into gear over the summer, we didn’t have any numbers on how many succeeded in the trial period and went permanent, until today.

Treasury reports that 31,382 trial modifications are now permanent. It also reports, well I had to do the math because they didn’t put it on the report, but a spokesperson did independently confirm, that 30,650 modifications were disqualified.

Presumably, the vast majority were either determined ineligible when all their paperwork came in at the end of three months, or they weren’t current on their payments,” the Treasury spokesperson told me….

Obama Nobel Prize Pick Up Speech underway…

Let’s listen to some Norwegian Wood, the audience looked like slabs of it listening to his Me, Me, Me speech…

I woke up and turned on my tv and there was Obama proclaiming his EXISTENCE as a result of MLK and war and peace somehow..clearly the WH speech writers are either constitutionally (heh) incapable of avoiding a ‘messiah speech’ OR they really are in a bubble and do not understand that proclaiming the life of the greatest civil rights leader in American history as a footnote, a precursor to the birth of the ‘real thing’ ie, Teh Obama who has accomplished nothing but winning an election is just..atrocious IMO, and they do it constantly. Then he congratulated himself for banning torture and closing Gitmo..

As someone who stands here as a direct consequence of Dr. King’s life’s work, I am living testimony to the moral force of non-violence.
