Is Susan Rice trying to back a UN led investigation of Israel while Hillary is in S America and the Caribbean??

Update 2: From The Times UK we hear Israel has permission from the Saudis to use their airspace to hit Iran as needed:

…“The Saudis have given their permission for the Israelis to pass over and they will look the other way,” said a US defence source in the area. “They have already done tests to make sure their own jets aren’t scrambled and no one gets shot down. This has all been done with the agreement of the [US] State Department.”

Sources in Saudi Arabia say it is common knowledge within defence circles in the kingdom that an arrangement is in place if Israel decides to launch the raid. Despite the tension between the two governments, they share a mutual loathing of the regime in Tehran and a common fear of Iran’s nuclear ambitions. “We all know this. We will let them [the Israelis] through and see nothing,” said one. …

Update 1 from Powerline we learn Congress is pushing back on this:

UPDATE: The Standard has posted the White House response to Kristol’s report here. Senators Reid and McConnell have in addition circulated a joint letter to Obama for signature by their colleagues. The letter raises the role of the IHH in the incident and recommends investigation of the IHH for inclusion among the designated state sponsors of terror. The letter further states: “[W]e ask you to stand firm in the future at the United Nations Security Council and to use your veto power, if necessary, to prevent any similar biased or one-sided resolutions [such as the UN Human Rights Council’s] from passing.”

Hillary with President Correa of Ecuador this week in South America

ZOMG who left SUSAN RICE in charge while Hillary is away?!

…While UN Ambassador Susan Rice is reported to have played an important role in pushing for U.S. support of a UN investigation, the decision is, one official stressed, of course the president’s….

Hillary has been in South America this entire week, no doubt Rice and Power are trying to make a move on Israel while she is gone…

…THE WEEKLY STANDARD has learned that senior Obama administration officials have been telling foreign governments that the administration intends to support an effort next week at the United Nations to set up an independent commission, under UN auspices, to investigate Israel’s behavior in the Gaza flotilla incident….

Politico has Tommy Vietor denying this is happening, then withdrawing his name from the WH statement..

The White House is sharply denying a claim by Weekly Standard editor Bill Kristol that “the administration intends to support an effort next week at the United Nations to set up an independent commission, under UN auspices, to investigate Israel’s behavior in the Gaza flotilla incident.”

The White House has suggested in the past that it supported international participation in an Israeli investigation, but a shift to the kind of international inquiry supported by many of Israel’s critics would be a dramatic one, and a White House official brushed off Kristol’s flotation.

Next you’ll tell me Samantha Power is rubber stamping stuff at State while Hill is in Colombia…NO WAY this goes down with Hillary as SoS, no way. She would step down first. God willing it will not be necessary and someone will ‘explain’ to Obama he cannot run wild with things Rice and Powers whisper into his ear while the grownups Hillary and Gates are away….

…The White House official said the administration continues to support “an Israeli-led investigation into the flotilla incident that is prompt, credible, impartial, and transparent.”

“We are open to different ways of ensuring the credibility of this Israeli-led investigation, including international participation, and have been in intensive talks with our Israeli partners in the past few days on how to move forward,” said the official. “We know of no resolution that will be debated at the UN on the flotilla investigation next week.”

Hillary come home, stat!!!

Market Mover Friday: May Retail Sales drop 1.2% (forecast was for a gain of .2%)

So much for Gentle Ben’s testimony this week …

In a setback for the U.S. economic recovery, retail sales unexpectedly (-haha I think of Ed at HotAir every time they say this now!-MiM )  fell hard in May as consumers pulled back their spending on things from cars to clothing.

Retail sales tumbled 1.2%, the Commerce Department said Friday. Economists surveyed by Dow Jones Newswires were expecting a 0.2% increase. The decline was the biggest — and the first — since September 2009, when sales fell 2.2%….

What Ben said:

…The disappointing report conflicted with remarks this week by Ben Bernanke. The Federal Reserve chief, testifying to Congress, said consumer spending and company investments are picking up the baton from fading government stimuli in lifting the economy.

Over the past year, demand in the U.S. has been subsidized by such things as the home-buyer tax credit, the “cash-for-appliances” rebates, and the “cash-for-clunkers” program created to spur car purchases.

But Mr. Bernanke cautioned that consumer spending, a key engine for the economy, is likely to grow at a moderate pace due to persistently high joblessness and tight lending.

Gee ya think?? Consumers may spend less due to JOBLESSNESS and TIGHT LENDING?! HOOCOODANODE!!!!

Song Lyrics:

My wife has a charge card.
Til I got it the other day.
I owe five hundred dollars.
That’s just for yesterday.

I said, “Honey, here’s a present.
Go out an shop around.
Get a couple a-dresses.
An browse around downtown”.

She did just what I told her.
Bought one, two or three.
Then came home lookin’ silly.
Makin’ goo-goo eyes at me.

Mastercharge, (mastercharge).
I’m bringin’ back her card.
Mastercharge, (mastercharge).
I’m bringin’ back her card.
Mastercharge (mastercharge).
I’m bringin’ back her card.
