Horror: Paranormal Activity 2 Trailer & update on Joss Whedon’s Cabin in the Woods

Courtesy of HollywoodStreams

We were HUGE supporters of PA1 and the DEMAND IT! Campaign. I LOVE that an uber low budget flick broke all records for money making, LOVE IT.

…“Paranormal Activity,” produced for roughly $15,000, became a runaway hit at the box office following an innovative viral-marketing campaign, grossing $107.9 million domestically and $84.8 million internationally for a worldwide total of $192.7 million….

This trailer looks like they got me, with the dog and the baby no less! And best of all unlike Joss Whedon’s Cabin in the Woods, we may actually get to SEE THE FRAKKIN FILM!!

We have been waiting more than 2 years for Joss’ horror homage! First they pushed back the release date to make it 3D, ugh, waste. Now it is the economy.

MGM apparently cannot get their financing together and any films we are waiting for out of them well, we will have to keep waiting…

First it was James Bond, then The Hobbit, now Joss Whedon is being taken out by MGM’s ongoing financial nuclear winter. Actually this is progress for Joss. Usually he’s the first to take the hit.

Cabin in the Woods, written and produced by Whedon, was set up at MGM and should have been swinging into form right about now. But the studio’s too broke and too broken to get anything done and so THR suggests that Cabin will be bumped off its January 2011 release date and sent to a waiting room somewhere in development hell.

MGM’s remake of Red Dawn may also be another casualty. It’s expected to be pushed back from its November release date….

Joss Whedon to direct Marvel’s Avengers film?!

oh way kewl…The Avengers ! Here is my fave comic of that series – I still have it , 1977 baby- a cool 30 cents…:0)

SciFiWire:

Deadline Hollywood is confirming that rumor that Buffy the Vampire Slayer creator Joss Whedon is in final talks to direct Marvel’s proposed The Avengers movie.

The report confirms a rumor first reported by IESB.net on April 1 that Whedon was edging out Clash of the Titans director Louis Leterrier to direct the superhero saga:

I’m told Marvel Studios is in final negotiations for Buffy the Vampire Slayer series architect Joss Whedon to direct Marvel Studios’ The Avengers. That’s the fast-tracked film that would amount to an all-star team of Marvel superheros, including Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), Captain America (Chris Evans), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), as well as SHIELD leader Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson). Other signature superheros will likely be involved, but I’ve listed the actors in active superhero duty.Whedon has been rumored for this job for awhile, and is high on the fanboy wish-list….

Joss Whedon talks Dollhouse cancellation, Dr Horrible sequel and more; plus Eliza Dushku teases final Dollhouse episodes…

Maureen Ryan of the Chicago Tribune has the must read interview, read the entire thing. (Joss also goes in depth into his future plans which seem to not include network tv and who could blame him?):

…Whedon said he’s proud of what the his cast, writers and crew accomplished and opined that some of the episodes coming up are “ridiculously good” (and even if you’ve never seen the show before, it’s worth tuning in Friday’s episodes just to see Summer Glau’s spellbindingly creepy character and to see Enver Gjokaj demonstrate, once again, his breathtaking versatility).

But Whedon also talked about how he has been “frustrated” by Fox’s skittishness when it came to what he thought would be one of the show’s central concepts: The exploration of sexuality and intimacy, in all its forms.

“The problems that the show encountered weren’t standalone versus mythology [episodes],” Whedon said. “Basically, the show didn’t really get off the ground because the network pretty much wanted to back away from the concept five minutes after they bought it. And then ultimately, the show itself is also kind of odd and difficult to market. I actually think they did a good job, but it’s just not a slam-dunk concept.”

Much more after the break:

PGA honors Joss Whedon with the Vanguard Award

See ThinkGeek.com for merchandise! http://www.thinkgeek.com/

I cannot wait to see ‘Cabin in the Woods’. Our previous posts on Joss, Dr Horrible, Cabin in the Woods, Firefly (and the dreaded, sometimes great, mostly crxpulent, Dollhouse) here.

I want to see what Joss created when he was let loose on classic horror!

Variety:

The Producers Guild of America has selected Joss Whedon as the recipient of its Vanguard Award, which recognizes achievements in new media and technology. The kudo will be presented at the 21st Annual PGA Awards ceremony on Jan. 24 at the Hollywood Palladium.

Whedon is a producer, writer, director, and creator for TV series “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” “Angel,” “Firefly,” and “Dollhouse” with film scripts including “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” “Toy Story,” “Alien Resurrection” and “Titan A.E.” He’s penned the comic book series “Fray” and created and produced Internet series “Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along-Blog.”

“The Cabin in the Woods,” a feature he co-wrote with Drew Goddard, is currently in post-production and will be released in 2011 by MGM.

…”Joss Whedon has mastered the art of melding the newest technology with inspired storytelling, truly exemplifying the spirit of the Vanguard Award,” said David Friendly and Laurence Mark, co-chairs of the PGA Awards.
