CIA (Panetta?) knew and a terrorist flew…

Update: Larry Johnson provides his view on why this was NOT a CIA failure here

State did exactly what they were supposed to, they called in the CIA. It would appear that the constant investigations of our intelligence officers, the second guessing of the interrogation techniques they used etc etc, and the insistence of Team Obama that there is no war on terror, and no uniting characteristic among these terrorists that should lead to ‘profiling’ has led to a collapse of security that allowed the terrorist to board a plane bound for America.

CIA did not notify State or TSA that this guy should be on a no fly list or a no visa list. State had a CIA person talk to the father directly and that is the end of State’s role AFAIK. State is not an intelligence agency. We need to let the CIA do it’s job and do it WELL. I suggest we stop investigating our own guys for doing their jobs in the past, and focus on the terrorists who are trying to kill us.

Michelle has it:

In the latest Undy-Bomber-related news, we now learn that the CIA knew of “The Nigerian” in August and had the name of a Nigerian Muslim fanatic meeting with terrorists in Yemen in November, but somehow Abdulmutallab was allowed to fly and retain his active, U.S.-issued visa because the CIA didn’t share its vital file on Abdulmutallab outside its agency..

In other scary news, we learn from Drew at AceHQ that the ‘defendant’ has of course stopped talking and lawyered up. We cannot get any more info from him and he claimed to know about 25 other jiahdis plotting. God bless us.

Another ‘profanity-laced’ tirade within Team TOTUS – this time it is Leon Panetta CIA chief…

Gee wonder what it is about Team TOTUS that leads people to wind up screaming profanities within the ranks? (recall Timmeh cursing out Sheila Bair and Mary Schapiro over regulation a few weeks ago) Leon Panetta was a pussycat a few months ago. Could it be perhaps that TOTUS tells everyone what they want to hear and it isn’t until the very last minute that TOTUS makes a decision, usually involving throwing someone under the bus for political expediency? Could be rabbit could be…

ABC via Instapundit:

A “profanity-laced screaming match” at the White House involving CIA Director Leon Panetta, and the expected release today of another damning internal investigation, has administration officials worrying about the direction of its newly-appoint intelligence team, current and former senior intelligence officials tell ABC

Amid reports that Panetta had threatened to quit just seven months after taking over at the spy agency, other insiders tell that senior White House staff members are already discussing a possible shake-up of top national security officials.

“You can expect a larger than normal turnover in the next year,” a senior adviser to Obama on intelligence matters told …A White House spokesperson, Denis McDonough, said reports that Panetta had threatened to quit and that the White House was seeking a replacement were “inaccurate.”

According to intelligence officials, Panetta erupted in a tirade last month during a meeting with a senior White House staff member. Panetta was reportedly upset over plans by Attorney General Eric Holder to open a criminal investigation of allegations that CIA officers broke the law in carrying out certain interrogation techniques that President Obama has termed “torture.”…

Gee Leon must feel ever so much better now that Justice is about to toss the CIA back unda da bus. Wagging the dog. If they think this will help Obama’s approval ratings they are seriously delusional. Americans already voiced our opinions on this when Pelosi was trying to demean our CIA.

…The CIA gets favorable marks of (sp) 63% from the public, according to the poll. The Democrat speaker, meanwhile, has a 35% favorable rating…

We want them left alone to do their jobs without political influence, period. We are already outraged that Scotland let the Lockerbie Bomber terrorist go and now Team TOTUS wants to persecute and prosecute our career agents that help keep us safe? What are they smoking?

An overwhelming majority of Americans oppose Scotland’s decision to release the convicted Lockerbie bomber on so-called compassionate grounds, according to a new poll.

Rasmussen Reports released a survey Monday showing 82 percent disagree with last week’s decision by Scotland’s justice minister to free Abdel Baset al-Megrahi and allow him to return to Libya.

…According to Rasmussen, majorities across every demographic category disagreed with the decision. Just 10 percent agreed with the decision, which according to the new poll was heavily followed by Americans….

Update: Witchhunt Inquisitor accidentally catches self: while hoist on petard claims her ‘role’ is to get control of Congress and the Presidency, not to actually object to unConsititional actions…but she did ‘fight the war’…

Oh thank Gawd SOMEONE mentioned this, it is Rep. Pete Hoekstra R-MI –The Note :

Hoekstra, however, said he finds is “very difficult to believe” that intelligence officials would intentionally mislead leaders of the House intelligence committee, as Pelosi is alleging.

He also blasted Pelosi for saying that, since she felt she couldn’t change Bush administration policies, she turned her attention to electing a Democratic congressional majority.

“What I heard her say — and I was quite taken aback by her when she said — was that politics are more important than national security,” Hoekstra said. “That’s a very dangerous precedent.”

Bond said there have been numerous instances where congressional leaders have privately influenced administration policy on intelligence matters, though he declined to offer specfics.

“It’s no excuse to say, ‘I was powerless.’ That’s what oversight is all about,” he said. “There are a whole range of actions, and she did not take them.”

Nora Desmond Nancy Pelosi has gone off the rez…

Pelosi Press Briefing Transcript Courtesy of Legal Insurrection:

QUESTION: Do you wish now that you had done more? Do you wish…

QUESTION: … it had been your own letter?

PELOSI: No, no, no, no, no, no. I mean, the point is, is that we had the conversation. They told us they had legal opinions. As I say in my statement, we now know what they didn’t inform us then, that there were other opinions within the executive branch that concluded that these interrogation techniques were not legal. So no letter or anything else is going to stop them from doing what they’re going to do. My job was to change the majority in Congress and to change — to fight to have a new president, because what was happening was not consistent with our values, certainly not true, and — and something that had to be changed….

(Hear that boys and girls? Her JOB was to change the majority  and to fight to have a new TOTUS not to you know TAKE ACTION OF ANY SORT…)

Jane Harman (D-CA) passed over for Panetta aka Revenge of Pelosi….the Botoxed leading the Blind…

Panetta’s qualifications as presented by Teh One loving AP:

The former eight-term congressman from California has had plenty experience in overseeing all aspects of the federal bureaucracy as a former chairman of the House Budget Committee, as budget director and then chief of staff for President Bill Clinton; and more recently as a member of the bipartisan Iraq Study Group.

This should have gone to Jane Harman. This is the botoxed leading the blind now…

Rep. Harman and DHS Secretary Michael Chertoff

Rep. Harman and DHS Secretary Michael Chertoff

Really, really, really sad that PEBO let Pelosi keep Harman out of this role. Perhaps Nancy is miffed that she ranks 6th behind Harman at no. 1 of wealthiest members of Congress…

In the House of Representatives, Rep. Jane Harman, D-Calif., ranks No. 1, with $397 million, followed by Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Calif., with $343 million. Rep Robin Hayes, R-N.C., ranks third, with $173.4 million. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., ranks sixth, with $62 million.

Pelosi has already blocked Harman from what would be the natural evolution of her role in Congress, becoming head of the Intelligence Committee…

Harman has the chops for CIA Chief. Leon Panetta SO does not..

Even the GOP members of the House endorsed Harman for the job, from Human Events:

Despite obvious differences on issues, Rep. Pete Hoekstra (R.-Mi) told us, “Jane is excellent on intelligence issues and you’ll recall that she was removed from the Intelligence Committee because she refused to dance to Nancy Pelosi’s tune.”  Hoekstra added that he made the recommendation of Harman in a telephone call to incoming White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emmanuel.

Harman (lifetime American Conservative Union rating:  28%) has compiled a liberal record after seven terms in the House.  But when it comes to national security, she has said “I live and breathe security 24-7.”  The Californian supported giving authority to the national intelligence director and unifying intelligence resources.  She also has been a consistent supporter of the U.S. action in Iraq.

“Her bipartisanship and pragmatism occasionally rankled other Democrats on the committee,” concluded the Almanac of American Politics, noting Harman’s close collaboration with Hoekstra on security issues and with other Republicans such as fellow Californian Dan Lungren on cargo-container screening. In ’06, with Pelosi calling the shots, Harman was passed over for the Intelligence Committee chairmanship in favor of the more partisan Rep. Sylvestre Reyes (D-Tx).

Not everyone is thrilled with this out of left field, inexperienced pick. From AP:

Fellow Californian Sen. Dianne Feinstein, set to chair the Select Committee on Intelligence, indicated that the choice caught her off guard.
