Gentle Ben on the Hill: Takes Bair’s Position on Uber-Regulator! Agrees Fed should share power with panel on risk oversight!

WOW! A whole new tone from Ben! He is now on board with Sheila Bair of FDIC and Mary Schapiro of SEC’s positions, that no single regulator should have this power. And MiM totally agrees!!

See our previous post on Timmeh cursing out Sheila and Mary when they pushed back on his super regulator plan here

To watch Ben’s testimony LIVE in front of Congress see CNBC Live link here

CNBC:

The head of the Federal Reserve adopted a new tone Thursday over a key plank of the Obama administration’s proposed plan for financial regulation reform, saying new oversight powers proposed for the U.S. central bank should be shared with other regulators.

Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke told a congressional panel that a new council of financial regulators, not just the Federal Reserve, should monitor systemic risk in the economy.Bernanke’s comments came amid growing skepticism in Congress and beyond about an administration proposal to give the Fed the lead role in policing the economy for systemic risk, albeit in coordination with an inter-agency council.

..He also told the panel all systemically important financial firms should answer to a consolidated regulator, whether or not the firms own banks.

But an inter-agency council should be used to monitor the very broadest sorts of risk, he said, placing new emphasis on an idea embraced by increasingly vocal critics of the Fed.

Health Care: TOTUS proposes MORE cuts to Medicare: Specialists reimbursement now on the chopping block: Cardiologists’ payments gutted….

Please Seniors and those who love them, CALL YOUR CONGRESS CRITTERS. These Medicare cuts are appalling!! If this were a Republican POTUS the Congress would be UP IN ARMS over these proposed cuts…

WSJ:

…The Obama administration said Wednesday that it plans to cut Medicare payments for imaging services and specialists, and will use the savings to increase payments to physicians providing primary care.

Under the proposal, Medicare would put specialists’ payments for evaluating and managing illnesses on par with those of primary-care physicians starting in January…

…Payments to cardiologists would be trimmed by 11% overall, but certain procedures they perform would see steeper reductions. Alfred Bove, president of the American College of Cardiology, figured that cardiologists would receive 42% less for an echocardiogram and 24% less for a cardiac catheterization.

Radiologists would see an estimated cut of 20% for imaging services using expensive equipment such as MRI and CT scans, said Bibb Allen, chairman of the commission on economics at the American College of Radiology. That would be in addition to the cuts imposed on radiologists under a 2005 law, he said.

AGAIN he goes after the radiologists! What is with him and the MRIs??!!

The proposal (is) open for public comment until Aug. 31 and expected to be completed by Nov. 1…

…Groups representing cardiologists, radiologists and other specialists said they will lobby lawmakers to stop the cuts. Dr. Bove warned that “cutting back like this certainly threatens the successes we have had over the years with reducing heart disease.”…

Isn’t heart disease the number one killer of Americans? Why would you reduce payments on heart caths and EKGs??? SOYLENT GREEN IS PEOPLE!!! IS THIS THE FRAKKIN PLAN TO CUT COSTS?? CBO just came out and said the increased inflation in costs on healthcare is AGING POPULATION…uh oh…

OH NOES!!! TO SERVE MAN!! *(condensed clip courtesy of nterpri)

They claim the idea is to bring specialists compensation in line with GPs and thereby increase GPs. SAME ASS BACKWARDS PLAN THEY HAVE FOR THE ECONOMY.

TAKING AWAY FORM ONE PERSON IS NOT HOW TO GROW THE OTHER PERSONS PIE!!!!!! (and we know how obsessed TOTUS is with pie)

Specialists have MORE TRAINING, MORE EXPENSES, MORE EDUCATION, MORE CERTIFICATION. THEY GET MORE, GET IT??

ARRRRGGGLLEEE..

I hope to have some kick ass cardiologists out there when I get older, please folks, call Congress, tell them NO CUTS TO SPECIALISTS NO GUTTING MEDICARE TO GIVE TO THE UNINSURED. THIS IS NOT HOW WE DO IT IN AMERICA!!!!

And we haven’t even gotten into the fact that education and HEALTHCARE are the ONLY jobs sectors still growing. leave them aloooooone!! /rant off

POTUS Speech To Congress: Responsibility….

Luntz, Maslansky Strategic Research conducted a focus group to get reactions to Obamas speech to the joint session of Congress, termed his first State of the Union address. The speech addressed healthcare reform, the economy, energy policy, education reform, and accountability.

http://www.luntz.com
http://www.michaelmaslansky.com

Strong partisan divides. The view from this group was not quite as gushy about the speech as most of the cable networks would suggest. While Americans continue to root for the President to succeed, the first few weeks of the Obama Administration have done little to erase the partisan skepticism so prevalent of the past eight years. What we witnessed was a group of people polarized by Obama’s message even while they ended up giving him reasonably high marks for his performance overall. In fact, we saw huge partisan divides in nearly every area of Obama’s speech.

A new divide is forming. As significant as the partisan divide, we also saw a new philosophical split emerging: the responsible vs. the irresponsible. Many participants – Democrats and Republicans alike – believe that the stimulus package and the housing bill are doing too much to reward the bad behavior of others. They resent neighbors who never should have purchased homes they couldn’t afford and they are angry that they will now be forced to carry the burden for what they see as reckless behavior. They reject Obama’s recent policy victories as the wrong approach to solving the financial crisis and want to ensure that they will not be asked to sacrifice more to support others.

People and Personal responsibility. For all of the large reform proposals outlined in Obama’s speech, the messages that resonated most were not about government at all. They were about people and personal responsibility. Talk about “the hardest-working people on Earth” or the parent who must take responsibility for her children or the “men and women in uniform” received uniformly positive responses. For Republicans and Democrats, there is agreement that now is a time for greater personal responsibility. And for a former community organizer it is ironic that the messages that did best were those that spoke of giving Americans the power to achieve a better future.

Nancy Pelosi is a Raving Egomaniac….

Narcissism thy name is Pelosi.

Many HRC supporters have LONG suspected Nancy must have some pathological jealousy going on or something because her behavior in the primaries was just bizarre…

Regardless of who the woman is,  in any given situation,  Nancy has NEVER thought they experienced sexism: from Hillary to Sarah Palin she didn’t think so and when pressed said she hadn’t been paying attention…odd that. LOL!

No doubt this is because only Nancy really understands what real sexism is really like in a really important job…

Obama actually pointed out how appropriate it was PELOSI was at the Lily Ledbetter Act signing and said nothing about Hillary, the first woman in US history to win a Presidential Primary (who was standing right next to him, which no doubt made Nancy smile like the damn Cheshire Cat–Obama TOTALLY has Nancy’s number and plays her like a fiddle)…

In this interview from last week, Nancy tells George below how SHE really broke the highest (and hardest) ceiling in all the land and how SHE really is the most powerful person in the world and how HER job is really the hardest in the world…

She sounds EXACTLY like the Evil Queen in Snow White, betcha she has a Magic Mirror…

Glad Hill is safely away in her own kingdom in Foggy Bottom…

Mirror Mirror on the wall, Who’s the most powerful female of them All? …then no doubt she does an “off with their head” gesture..

Listen to her fantasyland, from Snuggleupagus:

“I broke through the marble ceiling, forget the glass ceiling. In this Congress, it’s a marble ceiling. It’s over 200 years of pecking order that was very all-male and predicted long into the future. So I broke into that,” Pelosi said.

-snip-

….and my election to speaker has — so huge. I always said it’s harder to  be speaker than be president of the United States. Because the American people are more interested in having a female president than the male members of Congress are interested in having a female speaker.

What the hell kind of twisted reasoning is that?! More Americans want a female POTUS (IOW Hillary) than male Congress Critters wanted a ‘female leader’ (her?!)… her resentment and envy clearly eats her alive…very sad…

Hillary famously put 18 million cracks in the highest glass ceiling, so Nancy says HER ceiling is MARBLE…

Betcha the fact that her book on ‘Embracing Your Power’ sold like Negative Three Copies while Hillary’s two books sold like hotcakes ..well, OUCH THE BURN!!!!

Tsk tsk Nancy, more Americans want to read Hillary’s books than Congressmen want to read yours!!!

I bet Nancy wanders around the Capitol like Jan Brady saying, “Hillary, Hillary, Hillary”

Remember that Raise Congress Gave Itself? It was $93,000!!!

UnbeLIEVable!!

Yeah, call these people and tell them to use the money TO BUY A FRAKIN CLUE!!!!

I am SURE they will be ‘scolded’ about being ‘responsible’ in these times of hardship….

From The Intellectual Redneck:

If this doesn’t make you want to fly to Washington and slap your legislator, nothing ever will. Congress gives itself a $93,000 raise to stimulate the economy. It must be nice to have that kind of extra petty cash laying around. Instead of tightening your belt in this recession, wouldn’t you like an extra $90,000? Never mind the record deficits. Never mind that ordinary Americans are struggling to pay their bills. Our Congress thinks it is far more important to be able to dole out perks to itself.
