Our previous posts on Ryan as Deadpool here and here

SciFiWire has it from THR:

A day after The Hollywood Reporter said that three actors were vying for the coveted title role in The Green Lantern, it reports that one has prevailed: Ryan Reynolds, whom Warner Brothers has settled on as its choice to play Hal Jordan. The film is being directed by Martin Campbell and produced by Donald De Line and Greg Berlanti.

Here’s what the trade paper reported Friday night:

Reynolds and his camp entered negotiations for the part Friday, after the studio held two rounds of screen tests, along with actors Bradley Cooper and Jared Leto. Justin Timberlake also did a screen test. The studio had holding options on the actors, but, except for Reynolds, those expired Monday. Reynolds’ option would have expired end of day Friday.

…He recently appeared as Deadpool in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, and the character is in development for a spinoff movie. Fans of the Blade franchise also recall Reynolds role as Hannibal King.

NYDN:

…The story of an intergalactic lawman armed with a green power ring,”Green Lantern,” is slated to be directed by Martin Campbell and scheduled to start filming in January. That would potentially put Reynolds in the strange position of potentially facing off against himself at the multiplex with both potential blockbusters scheduled for 2011.

Cooper had been coming off his breakthrough role in the box office hit, “The Hangover,” which grossed $210 million and counting for Warner Brothers. Timberlake is no slouch, himself, with turns in movies like “Alpha Dog” and “The Love Guru,” but news of his screen test for the Green Lantern movie drew online grumbling from comic book fans.

But neither packed the box office punch that Reynolds has enjoyed recently, with “The Proposal” leaping over the $100 million mark in a single bound and “Wolverine” hauling in $178.5 million at the box office this summer….

Kewlin’!!

MTV Splash Exclusive, go read the whole thing!!:

Ryan Reynolds has complete control over the character of Wade Wilson. Recently, he clued us in on some of the characters he expects to see in the “Deadpool” spinoff movie — but, as he told us, the best part of the gig is the hands-on approach that he’s been given in developing it.

“I love it, because I get to be involved,” Reynolds said of his role in the fast-tracked development of a Deadpool spin-off film. “And I’m such a huge fan of the character.”…Reynolds has no intention of letting the film stray too far from its comic origins….

“With that in mind, the actor told us that he and the studio have already agreed to some key terms. “He’s going to be the Merc with the Mouth, [we’re going to give] all those answers that everyone wants,” Reynolds explained. “He’s going to have the scarred-up face, he’s going to be in the suit — and, it’s going to be incredible.”…

Ryan Reynolds Talks Deadpool and Wade Wilson

Ryan talking about Deadpool before the decision was made to film a stand alone for Wade/Deadpool/Ryan..If Ryan has his way as he describes what he would ideally do, it will kick axx…Vodpod videos no longer available.

Deadpool co-creator Rob Leffield spoke to MTV’s Splash about the way Deadpool was handled in X-Men Origins: Wolverine:

Rob Liefeld has been around the comic book industry long enough to see some of its most famous characters created on paper and re-created on film. This year, one of his own made its big-screen debut when Ryan Reynolds played Deadpool in “X-Men Origins: Wolverine.” (And Liefeld’s original team series “Youngbloodmight not be far behind in making its debut, too.) MTV News chatted up the Image Comics co-founder to get his reaction to Deadpool’s first appearance on the big screen, and to find out what he hopes gets left behind when the character moves on to his own solo film.

“I have a scale, with worst possible interpretation of a character being Halle Berry as Catwoman, to best possible interpretation of a character being Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, Ron Perlman as Hellboy, Patrick Stewart as Professor X, or Christian Bale as Batman,” Liefeld told MTV News. “I would put Deadpool, in this inception, much closer to the side where they got it right.”

Liefeld praised the movie’s version of Deadpool as being true to his initial vision for the wisecracking mercenary — and explained why the character audiences saw at the end of the film isn’t actually that far off. “When I created Deadpool, the entire backstory that was pitched was that he was the junk left over from a bad Weapon X experiment,” Liefeld explained. “When I look at the film, there’s no reason he can’t go and become that guy I created.”

However, that’s not to say that director Gavin Hood and the film’s writers got off without any criticism from Liefeld. “Look, katanas coming out of the hand? Not a fan. But you get over it,” he admitted. “Do I believe Deadpool will be shooting optic blasts out of his eyes down the road? No, I don’t believe he will.

Blast’s Kellen Rice has the pros and cons of  the up and coming Deadpool flick:

About as soon as the opening weekend box office returns from “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” were announced, Fox swallowed the blue pill and greenlit “X-Men Origins: Deadpool,” a “Wolverine” sequel and a third, unnamed project. Deadpool, a fan-favorite character played by Ryan Reynolds in “Wolverine,” is a (crazy) mercenary who peppers his stories with wisecracks and quips. He has a healing factor that supersedes even Wolverine’s and is one of the most formidable fighters in the X-Men universe.

X-Men: Wolverine success spurs ramp up of Deadpool film….

ryan_reynolds_deadpool

SciFiWire:

..The success of X-Men Origins: Wolverine has spurred Fox to ramp up development of its expected spinoff featuring Deadpool, the wise-cracking mercenary played in the film by Ryan Reynolds, according to The Hollywood Reporter. (Spoilers ahead!)…

*

..Reynolds is attached to reprise the character for what for now is simply being called Deadpool. Lauren Shuler Donner and Marvel Studios would act as producers.

Deadpool is known as “the merc with a mouth,” a character who under Reynolds lived up to his billing in Wolverine until the end, when the movie deviated from the comic-book persona, imbuing him with several superpowers and sewing his mouth shut.

It is understood that Reynolds would regain the ability to mouth off, with the movie going back to the roots of the character known for his slapstick tone and propensity to break the fourth wall. The character also was disfigured in Wolverine, though it’s unclear at this time how much the studio would want to mess with Reynolds’ face….

The Hollywood Reporter:

..Fox considered a “Deadpool” spinoff early in “Wolverine’s” development process, which is why it cast Reynolds. The actor was brought back in the month before the movie’s release to shoot one of two “Easter egg” scenes that appeared after the end credits. The scene showed Deadpool alive, though when last audiences saw him, he appeared to be dead….
