GM fires CEO of 1 year Fritz Henderson..

Update: Video added of Thad McCotter R-MI who I think is great, on Cavuto tonight

4:55 pm EST: Well. If you’re an investor and that conference didnt scare you nothing will. Whitacre had what looked like a legal pad and papers, he spoke for 90 seconds, said he will take the role while they seek a new CEO, he took no questions and left.

LeBeau is noting that CNBC had an interview scheduled with Fritz tomorrow from the LA Auto Show. Also that Whitacre has mentioned several times, ‘I am not a car guy’, since being brought on as Chair. Yep. And now he is President CEO and Chair, oh goody! Talk about bizarre timing, we knew Fritz wanted to sell Opel and the Board did not, but WTH happened to make them fire Fritz tonight?

Ain’t being run by the union and the government grand?

4:15 pm EST: Breaking on CNBC now, Presser on “Significant Decisions” by the Board in 10 mins..

Update: Phil LeBeau at CNBC has scoopage:

…It is unclear whether he is stepping down on his own, or whether he was asked to resign. It’s also unclear who will take his role as CEO, but GM Chairman Ed Whitacre will serve as interim CEO, according to the Associated Press.GM said it will hold a news conference at 4:30 pm on “significant decisions” by the board. CNBC.com will carry it live. General Motors had no comment.

Ed Whitacre the man who used to run ATT that they dragged out of retirement to be Chairman. Oy!

Henderson took over for former CEO Rick Wagoner when the White House removed him from the position in March….

Think about how scary that is, “when the WH removed him form the position”. Under what possible authority did they do that? And the sooper genius economists and academics were fine with it, so now no capital will invest in American jobs. Maria Baritromo just interviewed Larry Fink and he said he expects 2% GDP in 2010, a million jobs lost in state govt and populism and unemployment anger at the mid term elections. Man oh man.

Report: Bin Laden was within grasp, Rumsfeld and military under GWB let him get away…

How about we end the Big Dawg/GWB let OBL get away BS blamefest and focus on now? Can we do that? Can we get a Reaganesque coalition together and take the House in 10 and the WH in 12?

Cuz if everyone keeps blasting Big Dawg for an attack on the Cole that happened as he was ending his POTUS-ship,( in the Chris Wallace interview he is as clear as can be he wanted OBL hit, but the CIA, headed by someone BTW who WJC  kept on who was appointed by GHWB, would NOT sign off), if we keep this merry go round blamefest going we are not going to move forward together. Did WJC make mistakes?? Hell yeah, we didnt understand we were at war. Did GWB make mistakes? Hell yeah, he should have gone after OBL FIRST before turning to Iraq. But we are here NOW.

As far as this report in the WSJ today, it appears that yes OBL was pinned down and Rumsfeld and GWB made the decision NOT to go in there after him.

Now we can keep bashing the Clintons (looking at the present occupants of the WH should inform your opinions of the Clintons, who did NOT challenge the Consitution, or free market capitalism, he ENDED Big Govt during his terms!!!) or GW (after all if WJC was responsible for the recession that GWB felt (it was the FED!!) then you must say GWB is responsible for THIS recession? same thing on attacks same thing on OBL, be consistent!)or we can focus on NOW.

I choose NOW. Right NOW we have troops in harms way, right NOW our economy is in a ditch, right NOW the loony left is driving us off a cliff and the radical right is about to go AWOL on us with Lou Dobbs or Glenn Beck, splitting the coalition vote….let’s be in the NOW and work together to get MODERATION back in D.C.!

WSJ:

Osama bin Laden was unquestionably within reach of U.S. troops in the mountains of Tora Bora when American military leaders made the crucial and costly decision not to pursue the terrorist leader with massive force, a Senate report says. The report asserts that the failure to kill or capture Mr. bin Laden at his most vulnerable in December 2001 has had lasting consequences beyond the fate of one man. Mr. bin Laden’s escape laid the foundation for today’s reinvigorated Afghan insurgency and inflamed the internal strife now endangering Pakistan, it says.

…”Removing the al-Qaida leader from the battlefield eight years ago would not have eliminated the worldwide extremist threat,” the report says. “But the decisions that opened the door for his escape to Pakistan allowed bin Laden to emerge as a potent symbolic figure who continues to attract a steady flow of money and inspire fanatics worldwide. The failure to finish the job represents a lost opportunity that forever altered the course of the conflict in Afghanistan and the future of international terrorism.”

The report states categorically that Mr. bin Laden was hiding in Tora Bora when the U.S. had the means to mount a rapid assault with several thousand troops at least. It says that a review of existing literature, unclassified government records and interviews with central participants “removes any lingering doubts and makes it clear that Osama bin Laden was within our grasp at Tora Bora.”

TOTUS: Stranger in a Strange Land…

Seven months in and it is becoming more clear that the President does not ‘feel’ (for lack of a better word) as many mainstream Americans do, their Americanness. (Mainstream here defined as regular middle class Everyman, ie Joes and Ginas):

By Americanness, I mean what (and who) we believe we are and aspire to be and become,  individually and collectively, mostly individually,  in our great ‘collective cultural consciousness’. This includes what we expect in our ‘style’ of governance if you will, ie how the government interacts with us, the people.

As we have said here repeatedly, the sweeping mandate for changes, large and small, mostly large, across all spectrums of our society from the top down, that Team TOTUS imagines they were given, simply does not exist. The people have waited patiently through the love affair with the MSM for the Obama Administration to get grounded and begin to govern what they were given, not remake the government into its own image.

In polls (see here and especially here) and town halls (and in polls about townhalls!), a majority of Americans are demonstrating, loudly, that they want no more CHANGE writ large in Obama’s name for time immemorial across our economy or culture for the foreseeable future. This is not a race into history. You are already in the books, now you need to do the daily job.

Not the glorious landmark legislation, but the daily nitty gritty that keeps the wheels of the giant bureaucracy running (hint: it isn’t cash, it is hard work and the faith the American people put in you that gets it done)

Get back to business. The people’s business.

WSJ op:

…The president has a problem. For, despite a great election victory, Mr. Obama, it becomes ever clearer, knows little about Americans. He knows the crowds—he is at home with those. He is a stranger to the country’s heart and character.

He seems unable to grasp what runs counter to its nature. That Americans don’t take well, for instance, to bullying, especially of the moralizing kind, implicit in those speeches on health care for everybody. Neither do they wish to be taken where they don’t know they want to go and being told it’s good for them.

Who would have believed that this politician celebrated, above all, for his eloquence and capacity to connect with voters would end up as president proving so profoundly tone deaf? A great many people is the answer—the same who listened to those speeches of his during the campaign, searching for their meaning.

It took this battle over health care to reveal the bloom coming off this rose, but that was coming. It began with the spectacle of the president, impelled to go abroad to apologize for his nation—repeatedly. It is not, in the end, the demonstrators in those town-hall meetings or the agitations of his political enemies that Mr. Obama should fear. It is the judgment of those Americans who have been sitting quietly in their homes, listening to him.

Note: Not being a Presidential Historian I cannot say who, but there may well have been prior POTUS’ that had a more Eurocentric or ‘other’ ie nonAmerican worldview, however I note here that the discontent of the populace is IMO largely a nerve rubbed raw by countless apologies, perceived slights to our country and our countrymen by our Chief Executive and Commander of our Armed Services while abroad, and an insistence upon clinging, dare I say bitterly? lol, to a preconceived plan of how to remake America, despite a total change in circumstance, namely the economic collapse and subsequent run up in the deficit which frankly preclude these plans right now and for at least the next few years.

Americans know it, now TOTUS has to accept it. And his economic advisers need to tell him the deal. You can’t do all the big spending plans now, it has to wait, there is no money, yeah yeah it isn’t your fault, it happened before you, guess what? It isn’t our fault either. Shxt happens. It is what it is and what it is is NOT an all clear to rebuild Rome (in a day or a 4 year term). Just manage the provinces , keep the clean water flowing through the aquaducts and pave the great roads m’kay?

We, the People…

Courtesy of Northshore912:, with a h/t to the wonderful commenters on HotAir who posted it (UnderstandingisPower, txmomof6…)

This resulted from a Mom in Alabama asking her high school son to help with a commercial for the Tea Party she was involved in organizing. Boy, does it slam the message home. Very impressive.
Here is her note:
“I asked Justin if he could help me make a commercial for my group’s Tea Party. He sat down at the laptop for about an hour, and then brought this to me and asked, ‘is this okay, Mom?’ After I finished watching it, my stomach was in my throat.
Everyone that I have sent it to has really enjoyed it, so I wanted my friends to see it. I am so proud!”
A very powerful video…turn up the sound & sit back…!!!

Hank Paulson on the Hill…

Reminder, here is where we were almost a year ago now, the world was ending and Hank was in a sea of flotsam and jetsom trying to keep us afloat..do I like what he did, hell no, am I glad TOTUS and Timmeh werent alone at the reins then? Hell yes!

Update: Video as it is available…

Watching them grill Hank on the Hill

Live feed here

IMO this is bad, very very bad..

This is what they would do with a CIA investigation of ‘Torture’…go back and question shxt they knew about and never opened their mouths about before to look good….

They are going back and questioning every aspect of decisions they KNEW at the time were being madem, that they rolled over for..

After 9/11, after the collapse of Lehman, things were not ‘normal’

Never thought I could feel bad for Hank but I do..

This is a witch hunt and a kangaroo court and a clusterfark all rolled into one…

These people have NO CLUE about the financial system, and the things they are allowing Team TOTUS to do RIGHT NOW IMO far outweigh what Hank did with TARP and BofA and Merrill…

Shit Chrysler Senior Debtholders were threatened a few months ago, none of these Congress critters made a peep..

Pelosi and Paulson and Reid, Oh My!

These are the same tools who LOVED them some Hank in October of 2008…

Hank does not look well….

The Critters are frankly really interrogating him at this point…cutting him off…beating him up and bullying him in fact with emails he has never seen…this is a guy they schmoozed like crazy, a guy who like it or not saved the system form collapsing, I do not agree with everything they did and didnt want TARP but we HAVE A FINANCIAL SYSTEM TODAY b/c Hank did something, unlike the Congress who was clueless and led by Nancy who was busy interfering with national elections and not minding the store….

Dennis Kucinich has bene on a MISSION to get Ken Lewis fired and BofA shareholders a nifty lawsuit, he is on CNBC now attacking Paulson….

Small Business: CIT needs a bailout and TOTUS is ready to oblige…

Another driver of GROWTH in our economy coming under control of the velvet fist (or whatever the hell some up and coming nubile historian coins it 80 years from now)….

CIT the second largest IIRC first, the largest per CNBC, lender to small and midcap businesses in the US is in danger of imminent bankruptcy.

Odd that a ginormous stimulus went through and this KEY DRIVER of the economy was left hangin’ or maybe not..

Deliberate or shortsighted, the effect is the same, CIT is coming to the Fed for aid and the FDIC is saying not our ball and Team TOTUS is the only one with a checkbook…

a new oversight panel and CZAR for the coordination of small business recovery is no doubt next on the list of TOTUS hooks into the economy…

The last time MiM followed late night negotiations on a bailout of this importance to the economy was AIG and CITI .. bodes nothing good, *having Martin Sheen type Apocolypse Now flashbacks just at the thought of it* ugh….

CNBC:

In a sign the financial crisis isn’t over, CIT Group, the No. 1 lender to small and mid-sized U.S. businesses, is scrambling to get help from the federal government.

“People are speculating that CIT is going to get government assistance,” David Chiaverini, analyst with BMO Capital Markets in New York, told Reuters. The Treasury Department and the Federal Reserve are exploring aid options for the lender, a source familiar with the matter said on Monday. A CIT spokesman did not respond to requests for comment

The government may have good reason to talk with CIT. Some analysts suspect a collapse of the company, whose 1 million clients include big names from the franchisee of Dunkin’ Donuts to retailer Dillard’s, could deal a devastating blow to the economy by cutting off financing just as businesses need it most.

The impact:

“If CIT were to go away, it would take a financing option away from our franchisees who want to buy stores or expand their networks,” said Michelle King, spokeswoman at Dunkin’ Brands, parent company of the Dunkin’ Donuts chain.

For the apparel industry, a collapse of CIT would have “near cataclysmic,” consequences for its small to mid-sized clients, said Andrew Jassin, co-founder of Jassin-O’Rourke Group an apparel consulting company. The retail and apparel industries, which also include CIT clients like Dillard’s and Bon-Ton Stores, is preparing for the critical back-to-school selling period and is in the midst of ordering merchandise for the holidays. “This could affect the lifeblood of the flow of goods to the stores,” said Vincent Arscott, senior director of Fitch Ratings.

Apparel industry insiders say it would be very difficult for rivals to absorb CIT’s clients because other lenders are already under financial strain, leaving many orphaned suppliers potentially without any access to financing.

There was some bailout money given by Dubyah, Team TOTUS has done nothing for small business but propose raising their taxes and give some chin wagging the last three days:

CIT, which got $2.3 billion in bailout cash in December, said it’s talking with regulators about receiving more government help. One possibility is including CIT in the Federal Deposit Insurance’s Temporary Liquidity Guarantee Program, the firm said. The program would let the New York-based financier, which converted into a bank holding company last year, issue government-backed bonds to raise capital at a lower cost. As of June 8, the program has backed $335.4 billion of debt.

Speaking in London, Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner suggested help could be on the way but gave no specifics. “I am actually pretty confident in that context that we have the authority and the ability to make sensible choices,” Geithner said.

Timmeh is confident they have the authority, SHIVER ME TIMBERS! and the ability to make SENSIBLE choices, IM COMIN !!ELIZABETH! IM COMIN TO JOIN YA HONEY!!
