What is going on in the U.K.? Labour to call for lowering voting age to 16?

Well if this is so, just turn the lights out and call the party over…16 to vote?

NRO Corner:

May 6th It Is   [Andrew Stuttaford]

If this Guardian report is to be believed (and it seems that it is), British prime minister Gordon Brown will tomorrow formally fix the date of the upcoming general election for May 6th.

The Guardian report includes details of some promises (or should that be threats?) to be included in the Labour manifesto.

These include lowering the voting age to 16, the formation of a “national youth service,” and an undertaking to hold a referendum on fixing the voting system in a way that will weigh even more heavily against the Tories (although that’s not how Labour puts it…) than the current system already does. Gordon Brown plays for keeps….

UK: Gordon Brown’s big government solutions to ‘social problems’ the twin to Obama’s but without the polished delivery: The Sun endorses ‘Cameron’s Conservatives’ and Tory Party, dumps Brown and Labour…

Vodpod videos no longer available.

Our previous posts on the UK political troubles ie MP Expenses and Brown cabinet terminations and resignations.

Listen to Brown and it is a rougher Obama. All spending programs and ‘care for the poor and middle class’ but no means testing, no job creation, just handouts, yet he is going to magically cut the deficit. The newscaster keeps pressing on how this is possible and notes Britain’s borrowing is at a record, Brown keeps redirecting to the Debt level, and ignoring obfuscating the FACTS on the borrowing.

When pressed he cries ‘why would we apply means testing to day care?!” He is aghast! She replies, it would save 6 billion and we are broke. He says that is not for OUR PARTY, inferring the suggestion to cut spending is somehow heartless, instead of practical application of necessity’s demands and common sense.

Somehow he supposes by magic they can cut the deficit, not cut programs, not means test, continue record borrowing, crackdown on capital formation, AND best of all ADD NEW, UNMEANS TESTED PROGRAMS! This round for elder care for the middle class ! Adding billions MORE to the budget.

AND he says there need to be union ‘arrangements’ but NO JOB CUTS in the same breath! While talking about EXPANDING ELDER CARE to MIRROR NHS!! The biggest government employer IN THE WORLD!Thereby EXPANDING the base of government workers he says need to cut back, making that lobby even larger and more unwieldy practically guaranteeing it cannot be streamlined in the future to be part of a mobile, nimble work force.

HA HA! DERANGED MAGICAL THINKING ! Could be TOTUS’ Twin on policy.

In other big news The Sun has endorsed Cameron and the Tory Party!

This endorsement is EXACTLY what our media should be saying to the Democrats in D.C. I would apply every word to the Obama Administration and the abominable legislation coming out of this Congress. This is just the closing, please go read the entire endorsement, It is a stunner for a paper that traditionally supports Labour.

The Sun:

Britain needs a brave and wise Government to restore our self-respect, our natural entrepreneurship and the will of every family to improve its lot through its own efforts, without depending on handouts.

We need a Government that will cut the red tape strangling businesses, that will make affordable tax cuts to stimulate growth, that will reform wasteful public services.

We need a Government with a genuine will to win the war in Afghanistan and the commitment to give our forces whatever they need to do it.

This will not be a Government that merely talks the talk, as Labour has. It will ACT.

We hope, and pray, that the next Government will have the guts and the determination to do these things. And we believe David Cameron should lead it.

Between now and the election Cameron’s Conservatives must earn voters’ trust by setting out their promising policies in detail.

If elected, Cameron must use the same energy and determination with which he reinvigorated the Tory Party to breathe new life into Britain.

That means genuine, radical change to encourage self-improvers, not wasting time on internal party wrangling or pandering to the forces of political correctness. It also means an honesty and transparency of Government that we have not seen for years.

We are still a great people and, put to the test, will respond to the challenges we face.

The Sun believes – and prays – that the Conservative leadership can put the great back into Great Britain.

TSCC Cast in Tokyo…and more on the Lockerbie bomber release…

Courtesy of terminatorwikifox

Man I miss the show. FOX and Kevin Reilly in particular suck! If you saw Dollhouse S1 Epitaph ep 13, you know the new direction of that show seems awfully, well, Terminatorish….why kill the actual Terminator show to change the Dollhouse into a Terminator show?

But hey why try logic when we are talking about FOX and TV studio execs?! May as well try and figure out why politicians do what they do..

For example if TOTUS was at the G8 with Brown and Qadaffi, and Brown spoke to Qadaffi then about the Lockerbie bomber release, what are the chances Brown DIDNT talk to Obama about it then? Could it be since TOTUS has been rumoured to have been okaying exchanging British bodies for Iranian agents that Brown believed it would be hunky-dorey to release this terrorist?

…Hopes had risen after the release earlier this month of Laith al-Khazali, a Shiite militant who had been held in U.S. custody. The kidnappers had demanded the release of nine militiamen, including al-Khazali and his brother Qais al-Khazali, in exchange for the hostages….

Could a sycophant like Brown NOT have spoken to Obama about it in Italy? What are the chances anyone in the media will ask?

….It earlier emerged that a letter sent by Downing Street to the Libyan leader, urging that the release be kept low-key because a “high-profile” ceremony would distress victims’ families, also showed that Mr Brown raised this with Colonel Gaddafi at the G8 summit in Italy last month.

When we met I stressed that, should the Scottish executive decide that Megrahi can return to Libya, this should be a purely private family occasion,” the letter said.

At the time it was claimed that Mr Brown had merely said that the matter was one for the Scottish administration.

It was also disclosed that Ivan Lewis, the Foreign Office minister responsible for Libya, had written to Kenny MacAskill three weeks ago with comments interpreted by the Scottish justice minister as an endorsement of Megrahi’s release.

Mr Lewis is thought to have told Mr MacAskill that there was “no legal reason” to block Libya’s request to transfer Megrahi into its custody, under a treaty agreed between Tony Blair and Colonel Gadaffi in 2007.

Mr Lewis was reported to have added: “I hope on this basis you will now feel able to consider the Libyan application in accordance with the provisions of the prisoner transfer agreement.”…

U.K. politics: Brown team resignations continue…Jacqui Smith leaves Cabinet post..

*

Gordon Brown shows no signs of backing away from his spending and tax hike spree even as public outrage grows and his cabinet is shuffled and the Parliament is buffeted by the expense scandal...TOTUS has increased his spending pushes  also since our Tea Parties, these political people seem to have no grasp of the divide between the opinions of the populace and their political classes…the next elections on both sides of the pond should be fun to watch….if our respective economies can tread water that long……you knew Jacqui Smith would go, I am shocked she is trying to hold her home seat, I mean expensing her hubbys pron? come on people..Michael Savage is no doubt laughing….

..She was also forced to pay back £10 she claimed for the two adult films watched by her husband, Richard Timney, who is employed as her assistant….

There is that ugly nepotism again, our Pols do it too, it sucks, so taxpayers pay for her hubby to work as her assistant AND paid for his pron!? OutRAGEOUs!!!

TimesOnline:

Jacqui Smith, the Home Secretary, is to stand down from the Cabinet to focus her efforts on saving her Commons seat …

…On a day when it appeared when the Prime Minister’s control of events was looking particularly shaky, it emerged that another minister was also heading for the exit. Tom Watson is standing down as Cabinet Office minister…

…in addition, three other Labour MPs – David Chaytor, Beverley Hughes and Patricia Hewitt – announced that they would be leaving the Commons at the next election, adding their names to an increasingly long list….

And a new Treasury Secretary on their Cabinet now…wait until he gets a load of Geithner, good luck getting your calls returned !

…Ms Smith’s decision to jump before she was pushed – she had been widely expected to be moved from her post – paves the way for an even broader Cabinet shake-up in a reshuffle now expected on Monday.

That reshuffle is also expected to see Alistair Darling moved from the Treasury in favour of Ed Balls, the Schools Secretary. Mr Darling, one of the Prime Minister’s oldest political allies, could be offered another senior Cabinet post, perhaps that of Foreign Secretary….
