Obama demonstrates he lacks the humility to govern with the consent of the people, Obama to go nuclear on healthcare – the people will have to go Rostenkowski on the Critters and repeal this atrocity…

It’s beginning to feel a lot like 1989…What would Dan Rostenkowski think of what the Democrats in Congress are about to do?

Obama will announce his ‘path forward’ this afternoon, conveniently ignoring that his ‘path’ has Congress trample upon the wishes of the American people, they are  PROVING they cannot be trusted to govern with even a SIMPLE MAJORITY.

They will not listen to the people. This Administration is incapable of governing with humility and the CONSENT OF THE PEOPLE. I predict a post-passage Ballroom Blitz (peaceful of course).

Healthcare Update: GOP plan to fight off reconciliation: Amendment ‘Free for all’…

Which gives me an excuse to play Nugent, heh.

PlumLine:

The GOP Senate leadership has privately settled on a strategy to derail health reform if Dems try to pass the Senate bill with a fix through reconciliation, aides say: Unleash an endless stream of amendments designed to stall for time and to force Dems to take untenable votes.

The aide described the planned GOP strategy as a “free for all of amendments,” vowing Dems would face “a mountain of amendments so politically toxic they’ll make the first health debate look like a post office naming.”

Senator Judd Gregg is getting some attention today because he vowed to make it an “extraordinarily difficult exercise” for Dems to pass the Senate bill through the House while getting the Senate to fix the bill with a “sidecar” through reconciliation…

…That means there’s no limit on the number of amendments GOPers can offer, the aide said, or on their subject matter. A senior Democratic aide confirmed that this is the case — and that it’s a concern weighing on Dems.

“If you bring a reconciliation bill to the Senate, it’s a free for all of amendments,” the GOP aide said, cautioning that this was only part of the overall strategy. “There is no way to limit the number of amendments that are voted on. You can’t close debate. Democrats will have to vote on every politically perilous amendment that you can possibly think of.”…

In the Still of the Night: Dems pass through first HCR vote at 1:00am….

Happy Solstice, Congress has a little gift for us, excise taxes, fines, penalties and Medicare cuts! This Dem majority are like thieves in the night; 1:15 am they cast this vote. Maybe the big O borrowed China’s weather machine to have a blizzard and trap these fools to get their votes ….they all go on the Naughty List.  Byrd should be familiar with COAL, despite his recent bashing of his state W VA….

And MAC agrees Hillary was more bipartisan in her approach to HCR in 93, he notes they tried to negotiate openly with the GOP on that bill. Unlike Mr Post Partisan Unity Schtick….

PS Now that Obama KILLED Pharma reimportation, he has Axelrasputin go out and claim they will work on it later, AS IF!! HA!!!! The safety issues were all addressed and paid for in Dorgans bill already. What utter liars, and what contmpt they have for the American people.

WH and Big Pharma win, consumers lose: RX Reimportation Amendment voted down in Senate by ‘progressive’ Democrats Durbin, Schumer, Kerry, Reid, Burris, Rockefeller…

The SINGLE cost saving item for Americans in this horror show of a health care bill was just killed by the progressive Democratic Senators. Remember come 2010/2012, these Democrats and this WH ARE THE STATUS QUO. No change here. DOZENS of REPUBLICANS votes AYE! Nice commercials for the elections.  For those keeping score:

HOUSING:  Banks batting a thousand, homeowners a big zero (78B allocated from TARP, 3 million defaults (now 4.8 million), but only 31,000 mods).

HEALTH CARE: Insurers/big Pharma happy as pigs in shxt, American consumers facing higher costs, mandates and no ‘choice and competition’ plus the kick to the deficit.

SMALL BUSINESS LENDING: Again banks laugh at POTUS, Gasparino in the NYPost today reported that Obama schmoozed the bankers when the cameras left. No loans being made, bonuses back on track for the big banks.

EMPLOYMENT: Need we go there? Ginormous stimulus payoff to who? No one knows but it sure as shxt didnt create a million jobs, or even a verifiable half a million jobs.

FDL:

…Bunches of Democrats have decided to vote against this in the past few roll calls, this is going to be extremely close.

Senators are huddled around the desk tabulating the votes, this is one of those where the outcome is not pre-determined. Dick Durbin has a panicked look on his face.

…A late move toward the no side could deny this the needed 60 votes. They just got Lieberman to vote against it, along with luminaries like Kerry, Schumer, Reid, Durbin, Burris and Rockefeller.

…Lautenberg’s amendment has passed the Senate four separate times. It clearly kills re-importation because we haven’t seen any. This defeat of the Dorgan amendment is simply being done to preserve a corrupt deal.

Yeas 51, nays 48. Dorgan amendment does not pass….

UPDATE from FDL:

…Roll call on the Dorgan Amendment is here. The White House had to line up 31 no votes from the Democratic caucus to kill this….

Obama to recalcitrant Dems: Last Chance for HCR. Reality to Dems: last chance to save your seat

Whatever will the KosKidz do!!??! Suggested slogans for ’10:

Obama lied, the public option died, and the Neoprogs cried, as the Dem Majority Died.

POLITICO:

In a provocative argument designed to rescue his foundering health care plan, President Barack Obama will warn Senate Democrats in a White House meeting Tuesday that this is the “last chance” to pass comprehensive reform.

Obama will contend that if it fails now, no other president will attempt it, aides said…

Because in ObamaLand if he cant do it, no one can! You cant stop him he’s the Gingerbead Man POTUS.

The Milli Vanilli Health Care Bill: Dems drop Medicare expansion, vote on Dorgan Drug reimportation Amendment today…

I think we have figured out Harry Reid’s plan. He is the Milli Vanilli of Health Care. His concern is to pass something that looks good not something that actually works. He will keep adding things that sound great but do not have a chance because they are unaffordable, then when he takes them out he seems reasonable..

When last we visited health care Medicare was being expanded to 55 and up and we had a quasi public option with the Federal Benefit Plan being expanded….now Medicare expansion is gone.

The vote on the Dorgan Amendment to allow reimportation of prescription drugs is today. Please CALL YOUR SENATORS and ask them to vote yes if you would like to buy cheaper RXs from Canada.

WSJ:

Senate Democrats on Monday evening dropped a plan to expand Medicare, winning the support of moderates and the reluctant acquiescence of liberals, in another major step toward building enough support to pass a health-care overhaul.

…At an evening caucus of all 58 Democrats and the two independents who sit with the party, including Sen. Lieberman, Majority Leader Harry Reid (D., Nev.) and other party leaders made clear they wanted to head off the dispute.

Sen. Evan Bayh (D., Ind.) said Democrats agreed that the dispute over Medicare shouldn’t hold up legislation that would extend coverage to tens of millions of Americans. “There are a lot of good things here,” he said. “To use an old cliché, the general consensus was we shouldn’t make the perfect the enemy of the good.”…

Democrats remain divided on a proposal by Sen. Byron Dorgan (D., N.D.) that would allow the reimportation of prescription drugs from Canada and some other countries.

A vote on the Dorgan amendment was set for Tuesday. If it passes, it would undermine a deal the White House struck with the drug industry to limit the industry’s concessions to $80 billion over a decade….

Healthcare Update: Democratic Sen Carper blocking Dorgan Amendment to allow reimportation of prescription drugs; Dorgan will block the healthcare bill without a vote on his amendment…

Gee I wonder who couldve asked Carper D-DELAWARE to block a vote on this amendment? You know who else likes DE? All the big credit card companies, all the big corps love to be listed there. DE is so nice to big business and big pharma. Scxrew you Carper, think of the TAXPAYERS for ONCE.

Delaware taxpayers please call your Senator and tell him if you would like to buy your life saving medication at the same price as Canadians. Carper has blocked this twice in a year now.

MAC makes it clear it is the WH deal with Pharma driving this. FDL incorrectly reports the WH supports this amendment and it is not part of the Pharma deal based on GIBBS of all people HA!!! I don;t believe it for a second, FDA has been promised the drug sellers will cover the safety protocol costs, it is in Dorgan’s Amendment. Tauzin NAMED this as part of the deal I betcha. Carper talked all about how important the deal was during markup of the Baucus bill when he blocked this amendment the first time.

FRAKKERS!!!!!! WE WANT A VOTE! Any Senator who claims to be voting for healthcare TO SAVE MONEY for taxpayers/consumers and votes AGAINST allowing Americans to buy their RXs from Canada is a fool. Let’s GET THEM ON THE RECORD. 2010 cannot come soon enough.

...The health care reform drive is in a holding pattern as Senate Democrats feud over an amendment that would allow cheaper re-importation of drugs from countries like Canada.

Sens. Byron Dorgan, D-N.D., and Olympia Snowe, R-Maine, together with 30 co-sponsors, introduced an amendment that would allow for an influx of cheaper prescription drugs from certain countries — all under tight Food and Drug Administration restrictions. Dorgan has fought for the change for a decade, and it was previously supported by President Obama when he was a senator and White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel when he was a representative.

But Sen. Tom Carper, D-Del., as well as at least one other Democrat, according to Dorgan, have put the brakes on any action on the amendment. It’s up to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid to settle the dispute in order to move forward on health care reform.

Carper defends his opposition by pointing to a letter he received earlier this week from the FDA laying out its concerns.

…But Sen. John McCain. R-Ariz., another co-sponsor, says he knows the real reason for the resistance. “We all know what this is about. We all know it’s the deal that Pharma cut … Come on, let’s not kid each other. It’s all about they made a deal with Pharma, and Pharma wants that deal to hold. That means no drug re-importation, no competition.”

McCain was referring to the deal the White House struck earlier this year with the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA). As part of it, the industry pledged an $80 billion reduction in costs and the administration agreed not to push for anything beyond that — meaning re-importation.

Dorgan, incensed by the block, told reporters he is prepared to hold up any action on health care reform over the matter.”I insist that we get our vote,” he said.

Reid, who according to an aide has not taken a position on the amendment, would then have to file a procedural move that takes 60 votes to overcome if he wants to move forward on his health care bill.

Dorgan said he has many new protections in the new version of the re-importation legislation and that the FDA’s letter “could have come from a copy machine,” arguing that the concerns were just copied from previous years. Dorgan accused Carper of not reading the amendment….
