J.D. Hayworth on Obama Agenda, economy, spending

J.D. left his radio show to run against John McCain for AZ Senate. J.D. was my CongressCritter at one time and although we disagreed about everything then (height of my liberal-ness, lol) he always took the time to write me a personal response addressing my specific concerns. Big points for that in my book. Not sure what to expect from the GOP primary now that Sarah and Scott Brown are coming to town to campaign for MAC.

Update: One Night Only! Dorgan & McCain LIVE from the Senate floor team up in support of the Drug Reimportation Amendment….

Update: Shows Added, lol! Even AP notes OBAMA is blocking this billions in savings for American consumers. Debate continues today:

A bipartisan group of lawmakers hopes to finally win a long struggle to ease curbs against importing low-cost prescription drugs but will have to overcome the Obama administration and the pharmaceutical industry to do so. The Senate was resuming debate Thursday on President Barack Obama’s drive to reshape the country’s care system. The most crucial work was being done behind closed doors, where Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., and his lieutenants were hunting support for a tentative deal among moderate and liberal Democrats to expand the government’s role in providing care.

As predicted Team Obama has SOLD US DOWN THE RIVER for Pharma and Billy frakkin Tauzin. The FDA released a letter OPPOSING the Amendment allowing the reimportation of prescription drugs for American consumers. Obama is AGAIN betraying a promise he made throughout the campaign. This is one of the single biggest cost saving expenses for Americans in their healthcare costs. The FDA has the AUDACITY to claim drugs coming from CANADA are not SAFE!! HA!! Dorgan and MAC teamed up in a great vaudeville style debate today, punching holes in the ridiculous FDA statement..

WSJ:

…Allowing importation of prescription drugs from a select few countries such as Canada, Ireland, and parts of Europe could lower prices in this country, and Dorgan has an amendment to the health-care bill that would legalize the practice.

Tuesday, the FDA blew a hole in his amendment. In a letter, FDA Commissioner Peggy Hamburg said importing drugs would be unsafe, too complex and too expensive. The drug industry has also opposed the practice, pointing out that Europe, which allows some importation, has problems with counterfeit drugs.

On the floor of the Senate today, McCain played the set-up man, lobbing rhetorical softballs for Dorgan. Here’s a much-condensed version of some of the highlights. Watch the whole thing yourself, starting around minute 270 in this C-Span video

McCain: Isn’t it true that a letter was written to one of our colleagues from the administrator of the FDA?

Dorgan: The Senator from Arizona is correct. They say “We don’t have the resources.” This amendment provides the resources for them. The people that are selling [imported drugs] will pay a fee.

McCain: It requires no additional funding from the taxpayer?

Dorgan: No additional funding from the taxpayer at all!

McCain: Could we say it would not propose any hazard to anyone’s health?

Dorgan: The countries that are involved in this amendment — and they are limited — are countries that have an identical chain of custody to our country.

On a roll now, Dorgan holds up two pill bottles and continues:

Both of these bottles contained Lipitor — most of my colleagues know what Lipitor is. And this was made by an American company in Ireland and shipped all over the world. This little bottle was shipped to the United States. This little bottle was shipped to Canada. What’s the difference? The price. The American consumer is told, guess what you get to do? You get to pay almost triple.

McCain: On behalf of the citizens of my state, I just want to say, thank you for your advocacy.

Mark Levin & Glenn Beck

M’kaaaay. What is Glenn trying to say? He thinks TOTUS is the same as MAC? He thinks MAC would’ve been WORSE than TOTUS? This from the guy who is telling us nightly that TOTUS is trying to take over the country and shred the Constitution. I call BS. Hopefully we will get clarification today.

They Want it All, and They Want it Now:Team TOTUS Tactics:It’s a Crisis! Orszag at OMB Declares Social Security/Medicare Shortage Imminent..(thus necessitating immediate health care reform ya dig?)

Same Technique, Different Target and the journOlists are happily repeating the hype and preparing to scare Americans into immediate URGENT reform..I am willing to lay my money down now that we will see a sudden plethora of reporting on the crisis in Medicare….so it MUST simply MUST be done NOW NOW NOW

It is like 5 y/o kids hepped up on candy are running the country, they want it all and they want it now..speaking of which, how bout some Queen?

Hope the rest of y’all in GEN X are ready to work into your 80s sans hip replacements, how the hell we are supposed to work longer with less medical intervention escapes them…

Bloomberg:

..Preliminary skirmishes over clamping down on offshore corporate tax havens, taxing employee benefits and winning discounts on drug prices may dictate the fate of the president’s plan to broaden U.S. health-insurance coverage and cut costs.

Obama wants to enact the plan, with a 10-year price tag he estimates at $634 billion, without boosting a budget deficit projected to reach $1.8 trillion this year. So, while trying to agree on the biggest health-care revamp since Medicare started in 1965, lawmakers also must pick winners and losers among spending cuts and tax increases they need to fund it.

“It’s the most difficult political decision we have to make,” said Senator Charles Grassley, the Finance Committee’s top Republican. “You’re talking about saving money on Medicare; that’s always controversial. You’re talking about maybe tax increases; that’s very controversial. There’s hardly anything with financing that is not going to be controversial.”

Insuring more Americans by cutting coverage for those already insured and limiting treatment options, uh-huh:

.Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus says the government can save billions by basing Medicare payments on the quality and not just the quantity of care….

That’s code for limiting hospital stays for those who have not spent 20 years in the industry…

…Obama’s 2010 budget proposes to pay for his health plan in part by raising $267 billion from limiting deductions by upper- income taxpayers for items such as charitable donations and home-mortgage interest. The Senate unanimously rejected that idea last month, citing potential harm to charities.

Obama proposes another $309 billion in cuts to health-care programs, including $177 billion in savings from payments to private insurance companies participating in the Medicare program, such as UnitedHealth Group Inc. and Humana Inc. The administration also wants pharmaceutical companies such as Eli Lilly & Co. and AstraZeneca Plc to offer bigger drug discounts to Medicaid and would reduce federal payments to hospitals with high patient-readmission rates.

There it is in black and white, cutting payments to hospitals who keep readmitting those pesky elderly patents!!

One way to do it is of course the way MAC proposed and Obama blasted, LOL:

..Wyden has proposed taxing employer-paid health insurance premiums, which could bring in $700 billion over five years, or more than the proposal’s current estimated cost.

Baucus said at today’s roundtable that lawmakers are considering reducing the tax break on benefits, although he said they won’t repeal it altogether.

The benefits tax idea is politically dicey for Obama, who last year lambasted Republican presidential nominee John McCain for a similar proposal. Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius told the Ways and Means Committee last week that the administration is willing to consider the proposal.

What does MAC say about that?

Asked about Sebelius’s comments, McCain, a Republican senator from Arizona, laughed and said, “it’s a logical step; that’s why I proposed it during the campaign.”

This is why we needed the fighter…

Twice in this election America was offered a choice between a fighter and a brand. Once with Hillary who would not give up, she is not a quitter. And once with MAC, a man who does not know the meaning of the word quit. Now the media who sold the brand seem to have developed a resistance to their kool aid fix and are wondering why all the fumbling  from Teh One..
clinton_rain

john-mccain1

Gee if only we had a fighter, someone who was ready on day one.

Or you know, someone with a track record of hard work and sacrifice, I remember two such candidates this Fall but the media and the Europeans seemed confident experience and guts and sheer perseverance (something Hillary and Mac demonstrated in their lives) were not a prerequisite to CiC.

And seeing how badly Team Obama is handling economic and diplomatic priorities it makes me shudder to consider what would happen in an actual critical physical crisis of some sort like a massive earthquake or pandemic..could he tear himself away from his plans for cap and trade or a cocktail party??

All the foreign money that poured into Team Obama unchecked. And here we are. Hope the Europeans are happy, they helped make Obamapalooza a success. From UK Telegraph via HA:

The American source said: “Obama is overwhelmed. There is a zero sum tension between his ability to attend to the economic issues and his ability to be a proactive sculptor of the national security agenda.

“That was the gamble these guys made at the front end of this presidency and I think they’re finding it a hard thing to do everything.”

The Democratic strategist stressed that Mr Obama’s plight was nothing new. “He knew it was going to be tough; he said as much throughout the campaign. But there’s a difference between knowing it is going to be tough and facing the sheer relentless pressure of it all.”

Gee if only we had candidates who had run who understood SHEER RELENTLESS PRESSURE.

“The one real serious flaw I see in Barack Obama is that he thinks he can manage all this,” the well-known figure told a Washington official, who spoke to this newspaper. “He’s underestimating the flood of things that will hit his desk.” A Democratic strategist, who is friends with several senior White House aides, revealed that the president has regularly appeared worn out and drawn during evening work sessions with senior staff in the West Wing and has been forced to make decisions more quickly than he is comfortable.

What he can’t vote PRESENT?? He has to choose, possibly make someone unhappy? Make a judgement call on his feet? Whoudda thunk it?

He said that on several occasions the president has had to hurry back from eating dinner with his family in the residence and then tucking his daughters in to bed, to conduct urgent government business. Matters are not helped by the pledge to give up smoking.

obama_waffles

Again this is a surprise to whom exactly? CAN’T HE JUST EAT HIS WAFFLE?!!! WHAT DO PEOPLE WANT FROM HIM??LEAVE BAWACK ALONE!!!

Allies of Mr Obama say his weary appearance in the Oval Office with Mr Brown illustrates the strain he is now under, and the president’s surprise at the sheer volume of business that crosses his desk.

“People say he looks tired more often than they’re used to,” the strategist said. “He’s still calm, but there have been flashes of irritation when he thinks he’s being pushed to make a decision sooner than he wants to make it. He looks like he needs a cigarette.”

Another SHOCKAH!!! You have to think on your feet without sleep, you know like at 3AM…

Congratulations Madame Secretary!!! Hillary confirmed by the Senate….

UT0038718

Hillary Rodham Clinton has been confirmed by the U.S. Senate as the Secretary of State…woohoo!!!

Via Fox:

A number of senators said before the vote that Clinton, who traveled and met with foreign dignitaries around the world during her time as first lady, is uniquely qualified for the job.

They said foreign policy challenges such as the Iraq and Afghanistan wars and the conflict in the Gaza Strip make her installation imperative for President Obama’s administration.

“As a country and as a world, we need Hillary Clinton as secretary of state,” Clinton’s New York colleague, Democratic Sen. Chuck Schumer, said on the floor before the vote.

Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C. said the country needs an advocate on the world stage, and, “There’s no better advocate than Hillary Clinton.”

Obama press secretary Robert Gibbs said Clinton, as the new secretary of state, would attend the White House meeting on Iraq Wednesday afternoon.

Sounds as though MAC lent a hand to get this done!!!

But Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., said on the floor that he had talked to Cornyn and that Cornyn had no objections to a vote Wednesday. Cornyn spoke with Clinton Tuesday at the Capitol and said the former first lady agreed to more regular disclosure of her husband’s foundation donations, provided the requirement does not only apply to the Clintons…

God Bless you Madame Secretary!!!

Did everyone note that Hillary was honored at the MLK Center last week as well:

From Atlanta Jounral Constitution-:

U.S. Sen. Hillary Clinton was lauded as a champion of social and racial justice at the King Center’s “Salute to Greatness” dinner Saturday in Atlanta.

The New York Democrat and U.S. secretary of state-designate was among the featured guests at the civil right’s center major fund-raiser, held at the Hyatt Regency.

The banquet is one of a number of weekend events honoring the late Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. Monday is a federal holiday given over to remembrances of the civil rights icon, who was assassinated in 1968.

“It’s not just remembering and celebrating; we must also act,” Clinton told the audience of 1,000 people. “Until every vote is counted and every American has health insurance and jobs, then it is up to all of us. As we commemorate MLK Day, we are called upon to treat this day as a day of service. We all have a part to play.”

Isaac Farris Jr., president of the King Center, lauded Clinton for her leadership, humanitarianism and “as a champion of needed social reforms.”

“Sen. Clinton has worked tirelessly throughout her career to advance racial justice, child welfare and health security for all Americans and human rights worldwide,” Farris said in prepared remarks.

Clinton, who the U.S. Senate will likely confirm next week as the nation’s top diplomat, has vowed that human rights will be a cornerstone of American foreign policy.
