Golden Globe Nomination Roundup: ‘True Blood’ gets nods for Best Drama/Actress, ‘Mad Men’ vs ‘House’ for best actor/drama…

Not much Golden Globe excitement this year IMO.  True Blood got 2 nominations (Anna up against Kyra Sedgwick for The Closer, another great acrtess in a great role), and SciFiWire notes James Cameron is up against his ex, she for ‘The Hurt Locker’ him for the peaceful smurf movie it took a decade to make. ‘Glee’ got props (best actor/actress/musical-comedy).

Will Hugh Laurie beat Jon Hamm for Best Actor in tv drama? Hope so! (Do they give Emmys for one time directorial outings a la the upcoming Hugh Laurie directed episode of House and the Joss Whedon upcoming ‘Glee’ and past awesomeness with episodes of The Office? They should.)

Will we be forced to watch ’30 Rock’ acceptance speech clips all day again the day after the awards? Let’s hope not.

And Michael Emerson was nominated for Best Supporting Actor for LOST 🙂 It would be great if he wins, it will match his Emmy!

But in general, booooo-rrring! They need more SciFi/Fantasy/Horror series in the Golden Globes. Man oh man.

Brooks Brothers introduces ‘Mad Men Edition’ suit

I know a LOT of people who love this suit. Variety has more:

Brooks Brothers carries the Mad Men Edition suit, with costume designer Janie Bryant clearly credited…Bryant’s deal with Brooks Brothers has given her fellow designers some hope for the future.

“I’m certain, wisely, the producers saw that it was an advantage, not a disadvantage, to have to a costume designer linked to the clothing line — to use the costume designer for publicity,” Appel says. “It’s such a win-win. Who knows the character better than the costume designer?”

“Janie Bryant is the exception to the rule,” Lawrence adds.” That is a grand step forward.”

In the past, audiences would see a film because the costumes were created by superstars Adrian, Theadora Van Runkle, Helen Rose or Edith Head….

I LOVE all the clothes Edith Head designed in every film she worked on!

…Style guru Cameron Silver concludes: “Because Janie Bryant is getting personal acclaim right now, other studios might see the opportunity to make money. Studios have forgotten that they could be developing household names for their costume designers.”

Edith Head Designer, and Grace Kelly in Rear Window. When do we ladies get some of these incredible clothes remade! This may not work with Team Obama's new 'lower standard of living for the US consumer'!!

Our previous post on Mad Men here

NYDailyNews:

Mad Men” has been renewed for a fourth season. The 1960s-set drama, currently nominated for 16 Emmys, received an early pick-up Tuesday as a show of support from the network, according to AMC president and general manager Charlie Collier.

“We always saw the potential for ‘Mad Men,’ and believed in and supported the series because of our strategy of developing cinematic television that complements our library of the most entertaining movies, from every genre, on television,” said Collier in a statement.

“It’s been extremely gratifying to see the show develop into such a pop-cultural phenomenon with such a passionate fan base. With this early fourth season renewal, we’re excited to let our audience know the captivating world of Sterling Cooper will be back on AMC again next year.”

..The third season of “Mad Men” premiered last month to a record-breaking audience of 4.5 million viewers. Among its Emmy nominations — the most for any drama series — are Outstanding Drama, Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama (Hamm), Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama (Slattery) and Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama (Moss)….

Mathew Weiner talks about how advertising has not changed since the 1960’s.

WSJ has a piece on the show today:

…So one night I turn on my TV and there it is, just as I remember it. The color of the walls, the interoffice envelopes, the smell of cigarettes everywhere, the sound of clinking ice cubes, and all these beautifully dressed, immaculately groomed people….

…In one episode when Sterling Cooper is pitching the business for the new Kodak Wheel, Don makes a speech in which he actually renames the product. “It’s a time machine. It goes backwards, forwards. It takes us to a place where we ache to go again. It’s not called the Wheel. It’s called the Carousel.” That’s the most brilliant copywriting I’ve ever come across on a television show…
