Mad Men gets early renewal for Season Four…

Mad Men” has been renewed for a fourth season. The 1960s-set drama, currently nominated for 16 Emmys, received an early pick-up Tuesday as a show of support from the network, according to AMC president and general manager Charlie Collier.

“We always saw the potential for ‘Mad Men,’ and believed in and supported the series because of our strategy of developing cinematic television that complements our library of the most entertaining movies, from every genre, on television,” said Collier in a statement.

“It’s been extremely gratifying to see the show develop into such a pop-cultural phenomenon with such a passionate fan base. With this early fourth season renewal, we’re excited to let our audience know the captivating world of Sterling Cooper will be back on AMC again next year.”

..The third season of “Mad Men” premiered last month to a record-breaking audience of 4.5 million viewers. Among its Emmy nominations — the most for any drama series — are Outstanding Drama, Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama (Hamm), Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama (Slattery) and Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama (Moss)….

…In one episode when Sterling Cooper is pitching the business for the new Kodak Wheel, Don makes a speech in which he actually renames the product. “It’s a time machine. It goes backwards, forwards. It takes us to a place where we ache to go again. It’s not called the Wheel. It’s called the Carousel.” That’s the most brilliant copywriting I’ve ever come across on a television show…
