Update: Sunday Chatter: Kent Conrad (D-ND) and Sebelius both back off public option: the Federally funded co-op is now the term of choice…(and with Federal Funds it will still kill private insurance)

Update: Monday 8/17: Just like the Clash, Team TOTUS is unsure if they should stay or go on public option lol, they are releasing spin via Ambinder (who failed to get their ‘townhalls folks are hurting the GOP side’ meme to take effect, but not for lack of trying on his part, lol), that Sebelius ‘misspoke’, then another WH aide, off record OF COURSE! said no she didn’t misspeak, the MEDIA misrepresented what she said..uhm yeah okay go with that…YOU CANNOT TRUST ANYTHING THESE GUYS SAY PEEPS…GET IT IN WRITING BIG PHARMA, Dumb bunnies…..

An administration official told Marc Ambinder that HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius “misspoke” when she told CNN that a government run health insurance option “is not an essential part” of reform.

“This official asked not to be identified in exchange for providing clarity about the intentions of the President. The official said that the White House did not intend to change its messaging and that Sebelius simply meant to echo the president, who has acknowledged that the public option is a tough sell in the Senate and is, at the same time, a must-pass for House Democrats, and is not, in the president’s view, the most important element of the reform package.

See you at the RECESS RALLY!!!!

And it means nothing because we can trust them about 1/4 as far as we can throw them, although I think I could throw them pretty far….especially if we started with Jaeger shots…(just sayin’)….but it is a sign of cracks in the facade of happy changey hopey dopey land….

Conrad has been pushing co-op but FEDERALLY FUNDED so it is in effect a frakkin PUBLIC OPTION…maroons…

If they want small groups to be able to pool risk and premiums go with Multiple Employer Trusts which I used to process claims for in TX, this way small business gets group rates, NO PUBLIC MONEY REQUIRED….

Free interstate insurance commerce from Federal red tape! ….geez it would be simple were they not trying to Trojan Horse a single payer plan through wouldn’t it? Wyden-Bennett would work….but NO CO-OP GOVT PLAN BY ANOTHER NAME…frakkers…

TheHill:

A public health insurance option took more hits Sunday as Sen. Kent Conrad described its pursuit as a “wasted effort” and an administration official said it is not an “essential” part of reform.

Conrad (D-N.D.), who supports setting up health insurance co-operatives with government seed money to compete with private insurers, described the public option as all but a lost cause.

“Look, the fact of the matter is there are not the votes in the U.S. Senate for the public option, there never have been,” Conrad said in an interview on “Fox News Sunday with Chris Wallace.”  “So to continue to chase that rabbit is, I think, a wasted effort,” Conrad said.

His comments followed Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius’s remark that a public option is “not the essential element” to ensure competition in the health insurance market. Sebelius made the remark on CNN’s “State of the Union,” according to a report in the Associated Press….

Gee, TOTUS has been saying ad nauseum that the public option IS necessary to do just that, ensure competition. On which I call BS…

Question, if there is no yearly or lifetime claims max on people and you cannot pre-ex them or drop their coverage, how can you possibly have enough cash reserves from premiums and ROI (return on investments) to cover pending and potential future claims?

Health Care: Video Update: Flashback – Dems on Medicare Cuts: TOTUS prepares to throw trial lawyers unda da bus…

Most important update – contact your Congress Critters!

Update: And I have another common sense question here, when parents divorce often a QMCSO Qualified Medical Child Support Order is issued by the court ordering parents to cover the children to age 18, you know like normal people do in America, the age of attainment being 18. Well if TOTUS MANDATES covering these ‘children’ to age 26, I for one would expect that the court would have to come back for that and readdress the issue.

Who is paying for this ‘child’s” coverage after age 18 when the parents are divorced?

So now we have to deal with our EXes for another 8 years after the kids are legally emancipated? Good luck getting deadbeat parents who dont pay child support to age 18 now to insure their children for 8 years BEYOND the attainment of adulthood….

more work for those backed up child support courts in the making…so cheeto eating Obots can coast til they are 26?! ugh

Frakkin ridiculous is what it is, no doubt TOTUS was in law school until age 26 and that is how he came up with this number, TOTALLY UNFEASIBLE IN PRACTICE..much like socialism..hmmmm….

Video from VerumSerum by way of Ed at HA:

Follow us at: twitter.com/verumserum. While President Bush was in office, the Democrats spoke out vehemently against any proposed cuts in Medicare & Medicaid. Now that President Obama has proposed $622B in Medicare/Medicaid cuts to help pay for his healthcare plan, where are the Democrats now?

This is a rant zone….

BWAAAAAAHAAAAAA!!!!

OMG!! Hillyarious!!!!!

To sell Obamacare, TOTUS is going to tell the AMA that he will pass or enact some sort of ‘best practices’ protections for them…not a cap on medical malpractice verdicts which would be the only real way to reduce those unneccessary expenses they are so concerned about….

…There have been indications Obama has been quietly making a case for reducing malpractice lawsuits to help control costs, long a goal of the AMA and Republicans.Obama has not endorsed capping jury awards Former Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle, D-S.D., said Monday that controlling the cost of malpractice insurance would have to be a part of the Obama administration’s overhaul of the health care system.

Daschle… said much of the unnecessary annual health care cost can be attributed to doctors ordering extra tests and taking extra precautions to make sure “they aren’t sued.”…

Politico covers what TOTUS is expected to say to the AMA here

…AMA President Nancy Nielsen said Sunday that the group is looking for a fix to the Medicare payment system that has cut doctor fees, and medical liability reform that puts caps on noneconomic damages.

The Obama administration outlined an additional $313 billion in new proposed savings Friday to pay for the president’s health care plan

. The savings would come from cutting or reducing the growth of payments to hospitals, medical equipment manufacturers and laboratories – though the major cuts don’t target doctors, White House budget director Peter Orszag said Friday….

Whenever Peter Orzsag is going on and on and on about how some states like Wisconsin use less medical care and how they plan to get the rest of the states to act like WI, I laugh and wonder how many doctors are in WI, how many specialists, what is their civil litigation system like there, how strong are their personal injury med mal attorneys lobbying groups there, what is the demographic of those living there….THOSE are the differences no doubt..

AZ and FL likely have many more hospital admissions cuz AZ and FL have many retirees who …you know…. get ill… b/c they are …you know…. older….Orzsag wants to stop what he calls ‘unnecessary readmissions to hospitals in the last 6 months of life’ which he claims do not show a better result than states like WI where apparently people arent so pesky about calling 911 when the elderly stop breathing or something…

Uhmm no thanks I will pass on having a pencil necked geek decide if I need to be readmitted. Hospitals are already wigging out over Team TOTUS proposed cuts…

..For instance, Obama wants to cut federal payments to hospitals by about $200 billion and cut $313 billion from Medicare and Medicaid over 10 years. He also is proposing a $635 billion “down payment” in tax increases and spending cuts in the health care system…

How will TOTUS stop lawsuits against hospitals and physicians who refuse to readmit a patient who THEN DIES? they cannot, they cannot legislate away the right to sue apparently and they are unwilling to cap verdicts cuz lawyers lobby too hard and donate too much…

thus the tests will continue, and I for one am perfectly fine with that..

Many Gen Yers who like the proposal may not remember the absolute nightmare that was HMOs before states started passing coverage mandates..

Anyone else here have to pay for their pesky anesthesia during labor? I did in 89. Yep, 42 HOURS OF LABOR and the HMO said the anesthesia was not medically necessary, thus I paid for it. I was also almost kicked out of the hospital in 24 hours after having my  baby because the HMOs used to do that to CONTAIN COSTS..sound familiar? yeah it is the Orszag Plan.

States and even the feds then MANDATED a length of hospital stay for women after giving birth to put an end to that. That is where we are headed. Every time the Medical Panel of SOOPERGENIUSES decides to limit something, some lobbyists will find the patient group or vice versa and Congress Critters will act..

This will ADD to administrative expenses as all states become as overly regulated as California and more manual claims processing becomes necessary to keep up with all the rule changes….

I worked for a PI Med Mal Wrongful Death firm in NYC for a time. One patient who was in her 20s was obese. She had a persistent cough. Her PCP, mindful of his HMO handlers, did NOT send her to an outpatient facility for a portable chest xray and she did not fit in the xray machine in the HMO radiologists office. So he said she had bronchitis and gave her an RX. Long story short. She had cancer, it went undiagnosed for too long and she was terminal.  God Bless her. They should have referred her for the damned xray.

I do not believe this is the way to go with our health care system. Letting the elderly go untreated to save money is the plan. Sheboresus slid around it like an eel this weekend, it is rationing and Americans won’t stand for it. If they get it through, we will simply see massive scandal later when people die after being denied testing and treatment..

…Kathleen Sebelius ducked on Sunday when John King ask her about the prospect of comparative effectiveness research as a slippery slope toward medical rationing.

“There is fabulous health care being delivered at lower costs all across America,” she replied in an appearance on “State of the Union.” “Comparative effectiveness research says, ‘does paying twice as much in McAllen,Texas, as in some other part of the country deliver better care?’ And the answer is ‘no.'”

She added, “If three tests don’t produce a better result than one test produces, I’d rather have the one test, thank you very much.”

TOTUS CANNOT promise best practices protection! He cannot get it through Congress which is HEAVILY lobbied by the Bar association and the entity previously known as the Trial Lawyers Association. Just go ask Johnny Edwards about a doctor NOT DOING a test..he will dance all the way to his 140,000 sf house…

This TOTUS plan would have the additional liability of limiting economies of scale in many diagnostic tests. If the test isnt done more and more the price wont drop and the technology wont get better..this will kill promising new gene therapy also, if Team TOTUS wont pay for granny to get a new hip they certainly will not pay for all the experimentation and promising gene therapy coming from the very SCIENCE he claims to cherish….what was the point of the stem cell testing if the pesky elderly cannot have the gene therapy for Alzheimers?

What government panel will find it cost effective to cure someone who has Alzheimers? How much work or tax dollars can they get from that elderly person?

Scary.

Pay to Play in the UK & Our Lordly Senators Prepare to give ‘Duke Daschle’ a Pass…

From MM:

Ask the Bend Over Republicans who pooh-poohed Tim Geithner’s tax goofs where they will stand:

Corker (R-TN)
Cornyn (R-TX)
Crapo (R-ID)
Ensign (R-NV)
Graham (R-SC)
Gregg (R-NH)
Hatch (R-UT)
Shelby (R-AL)
Snowe (R-ME)
Voinovich (R-OH)

From HA comments:

“Make no mistake, tax cheaters cheat us all, and the IRS should enforce our laws to the letter. ” Sen. Tom Daschle, Congressional Record, May 7, 1998, p. S4507.

Keemo on February 2, 2009 at 9:03 AM

From the Telegraph:

Lord Truscott is one of four peers said to have offered to help reporters posing as lobbyists for a fictitious Chinese retail firm which wanted to amend a forthcoming law on business rates before setting up in the UK.

During a meeting in a London hotel, Lord Truscott was asked about the procedure for amending a law passing through parliament. He said: “It is… identifying people and obviously following and identifying people to… meeting people, talking with people to facilitate the amendment and making sure the thing is granted.

You see Blago was following the vaunted European Model of the Peerage……but instead of:

‘to facilitate…make sure its granted’  Blago said  ‘the bill is almost signed where’s my fxxxing money?!’

Maybe he should have been all cash up front? Is that a lesson on “How to Sell Legislation for Fun and Profit” that the American politicans missed?

Shall we arrange for an EduLoan jet to fly Daschle over there to get the lesson and bring his new knowledge home? Then we can save time and maybe get a SINGLE thing done for the people. Or is Tom still going to be too busy pushing private student loan lenders up the list or whatever the frak he did for them prior to this meltdown (cause student loans are the next thing to go)…

But don’t fret about Tom, cause he IS a PEER as our crooked pols view it:

“If this were anyone else, I don’t think there would be any question that [the nomination] would not make it out of the committee,” said a top Senate GOP aide, referring to Daschle’s 18 years of Senate service, including stints as both majority and minority leader. “But he’s a former majority leader, which means a lot to these guys.”

Notice that is a GOP aide, they won’t roll on one of their own -fellow Senators regardless of political stripe, eh??

And you think the American people are okay with this after the lectures about responsibility and shame for CEOs and years of mutual sacrifice going forward?

daschle7

And this is the SECOND tax evader you put forward to run policy for our country? Cause he is a ‘friend’ aka supporter who pulled strings to get The One where he needed to be, Daschle opened the doors to the Golden Kingdom…our Treasury of our tax dollars..

People to Team Obama: That is as “Old Style” Politics as it Gets baby

You are coming after our children’s earnings and you want to give this millionaire a pass on his taxes so he can be in a position to make more money off our health?virtue11I call BS..Seems I am having to do that an awful lot for 11 days in office..

See since he was once the LEADER of the Senate Majority, he gets a pass. WTF is that? No No No. Make the calls to your Congress Critters maybe they can frakin PRETEND to give a good G-Damn about the people and equity under the system…

CALL YOUR SENATORS HERE

Cause we do NOT want this guy setting our health care policy, he CLEARLY is untrustworthy. I am sure it will go down just as Lord FancyPants here describes:

“I know some of the MPs and I know all the Tories in the Lords so I have no problem with approaching them, I mean, I think as I said it might be worth having the first bite of the cherry in the Commons… then I think the other thing is identifying who to… who can be approached to put forward amendments at various stages and maybe other bodies to contact. ”

“That comes down to… I think that will be a bit of a mix. You talking to some people, me talking to some people, sometimes both of us talking to people together, to put something through. And also there will probably be a different style maybe in the Commons and in the Lords.

See no wonder there were so many hours of tape with Blago, it takes a lot of calls and a lot of payoffs, these crooked rat frakkers…Blago’s style was more fit for the House of ‘Commons’ I betcha. Unfrakinbelievable all over the damn place…

Daschle evades taxes, Geithner the same. Lobbyists are all over the place even in the Cabinet posts themselves, Conyers wife took a bribe and he is heading the Judiciary Cmte in the House, yet Blago is out in the cold. No wonder he’s pixxed.

Only One Duke gets my attention and in fact an ovation and that’s the Duke of Earl, and you Tom Daschle,  are NO Duke of Earl

Another Tax Cheat in the Cabinet? Tom Daschle, HHS Nominee, you are ‘shameful’!!

First there was Turbo Tax Tim and now Tax Trouble for Tom. Via Ed at HotAir..

daschleobama

Well I have NO love for this man. This is the ninny who told Obama to run so soon and not to wait when he KNEW HRC was running..he hasn’t gotten over 94 yet…and HE is some ‘expert’ on health care after helping scuttle UHC in 93…pullleezze…he had to take Hillary’s life’s focus for his post Senate career, yeah imagine what a therapist would say heh…

Did I mention I don’t like him? At his confirmation hearings the first thing he did was thank BOB DOLE!

His ‘ingenius plan’ ( which does NOT include the Universal Mandate that it would take to truly reduce premiums IMO)  is to have a government panel approve what types of treatment government plans can pay for, AND he hopes to expand the model to all providers….

Great!…cause I want Sanjay Gupta to decide if I need an MRI, a government run HMO, fabulous…

Is this tax trouble Karma? you make the call…for me I just sing…

Jake Tapper breaks it:

…After being defeated in his 2004 re-election campaign to the Senate, Daschle in 2005 became a consultant and chairman of the Executive Advisory Board at InterMedia Advisors.

…Based in New York City, InterMedia Advisors is a private equity firm …That same year he began his professional relationship with InterMedia 2005, Daschle began using the services of Hindery’s car and driver….

-snip-

The Cadillac and driver were never part of Daschle’s official compensation package at InterMedia but Mr. Daschle — who as Senate majority leader enjoyed the use of a car and driver at taxpayer expense — didn’t declare their services on his income taxes, as tax laws require.

During the vetting process to become HHS secretary, Daschle corrected the tax violation, voluntarily paying $101,943 in back taxes plus interest, working with his accountant to amend his tax returns for 2005 through 2007.

..Mr. Daschle reimbursed the IRS $31,462 in taxes and interest for tax year 2005; $35,546 for 2006; and $34,935…

The chairman of the Senate Finance Committee, Sen. Max Baucus, D-Mont., has called his colleagues for a private meeting at 5 p.m. ET Monday to discuss these complications surrounding Daschle’s nomination….

So ‘to be absolutely clear’, ANOTHER Cabinet nominee who failed to pay income taxes or report income/benefits. To the tune of six figures!! I mean if John Thain of Merrill paid $200,000 to is chauffer last year, imagine how often Daschle had this driver hanging around. LOOK at the amount he JUST paid..how many trips were to Obama fundraisers Tom?

After the big song and dance about `CEO responsibility and the shame of bonuses ‘ with Turbo Tax Tim sitting next to him, and now ANOTHER one? This is AFTER Daschle hired a former lobbyist to be his Chief of Staff..yes the THIRD Lobbyist ‘exception’ in 10 days…

I say, you’re outta there! He has used up his two free passes with Holder and Geithner. This is red meat for the GOP…Obama may fight for him since they are so tight, but it would be a mistake and waste political capital if he did…

The Stimulus: Where’s the Beef?… Housing waits for a hero….Feldstein drops support for stimulus

The more we look at the Stimulus Package the more it seems all bun little beef…

Conservative economist Marty Feldstein was won over by Obama and endorsed his proposed stimulus after a highly publicized group of the creme de la creme of economics and markets and Treasury gathered under the auspices of advising the incoming POTUS on all things economic…

After the January 6th meeting of movers and shakers with slide rules and Brooks Brothers suits, lol, the WSJ reported:

The onetime presidential adviser to Ronald Reagan might even be considered the least likely advocate of government spending to boost the U.S. economy.

But given present circumstances, the Harvard University economist has changed his mind. Mr. Feldstein will be featured Wednesday at a Democratic economic forum, along with Robert Reich, former labor secretary and longtime liberal. Democratic leaders now mention Mr. Feldstein’s support when they discuss their economic recovery plan, criticized by some as a pricey grab-bag of liberal goodies.

“We’re down to fiscal policy, which pains me a bit, more than a bit, but I don’t think we have a choice,” said Mr. Feldstein.

Though a Republican, Mr. Feldstein, 69 years old, has longstanding ties to many of the economists tapped to serve in the Obama administration. His most famous student, Lawrence Summers, was named to head the Obama White House’s National Economic Council.

Let’s get to what Mr Feldstein proposed in that meeting with the economic team to Obama.  Housing …rant on/, the root cause of our collapse, the kernel of our chaos, lol, housing, is the underlying asset in all the frakin securities that the geniuses cant figure out how to price to get them off the banks’ books into a ‘bad bank’….

Anywho perhaps if, while they keep working that out, we stopped the collapse in housing by putting in an artifical floor, we could stop the death spiral of deflation long enough to enact stimulus and allow cyclical recovery and boost consumer confidence..that is my plan but hell no one listens to me!!! /rant off

We covered Feldstein’s proposal on housing here..we know we are a broken record but it is simply STUNNING that these geniuses are still failing to address the root cause of the underlying asset losses, THE FRAKIN HOUSING DEFLATION….they ALL tell us housing will be addressed (see Paulson in ANY speech) and it never seems to get off the damn ground somehow…

(I even heard Mitch McConnell tell Larry Kudlow today that the first amendment to the Senate stimulus from the GOP will be on housing, when the GOP is coming to the rescue of homeowners before POTUS we have a problem Houston) but I digress:

Feldstein confirms what we at MiM have been hearing and reporting; HOUSING will be key to this package.  Forget what you have heard in the proposed stimulus package breakdowns to date, it is housing that is key to the financial and economic advisers. The housing plan will include principle write downs and an attempt to build what Feldstein calls a ‘firewall’ to stop a continued drop in housing values from pushing more Americans underwater on their LTV ratios…will it come from Son of Tarp or the stimulus? No word yet but it is coming….

Keep in mind most economic forecasts worth their salt call for an additional 15% drop in home values in 2009…Feldstein is CLEAR that the FED actions alone will NOT repair housing, it is merely keeping it in a holding pattern, he says all the fiscal stimulus will do nothing without a housing program…

Feldstein says if we are lucky, we will see a bottom at the end of 2009. This puts the kaibosh on the hoped for 2009 recovery that some rose-colored glasses wearing talking heads have called for.

So Feldstein layed it out at a bigwig meeting with Obama’s top peeps, highly covered in media..again Obama was lauded as the great uniter of the greatest minds of our time….and Feldstein came out convinced the package would include these actions….and to what end??He didn’t put it in the bill. What DID get in the bill is as shameful as POTUS tells us Wall St bonuses are IMO…

Today Feldstein dropped his support after seeing the stimulus  package…..see today’s WaPo: An $800 Billion Mistake:

As a conservative economist, I might be expected to oppose a stimulus plan. In fact, on this page in October, I declared my support for a stimulus. But the fiscal package now before Congress needs to be thoroughly revised. In its current form, it does too little to raise national spending and employment. It would be better for the Senate to delay legislation for a month, or even two, if that’s what it takes to produce a much better bill. We cannot afford an $800 billion mistake

-snip-

The problem with the current stimulus plan is not that it is too big but that it delivers too little extra employment and income for such a large fiscal deficit. It is worth taking the time to get it right….Why not a temporary refundable tax credit to households that purchase cars or other major consumer durables, analogous to the investment tax credit for businesses? Or a temporary tax credit for home improvements? In that way, the same total tax reduction could produce much more spending and employment…
