WSJ:

The latest health-overhaul bill from the Senate will cost $829 billion over a decade and provide insurance coverage to 91% of U.S. residents, according to an analysis released Wednesday by the Congressional Budget Office.

The price tag for the Senate Finance Committee’s sweeping health bill is in line with President Barack Obama’s request that the overhaul cost about $900 billion over a decade and not add to the federal deficit. But the estimate of how far it will expand insurance coverage is lower than what Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus (D., Mont.) had initially targeted.

According to the CBO, the bill would reduce the federal budget deficit by $81 billion over 10 years.

The within-budget cost estimate paves the way for the Finance Committee to pass the overhaul bill as soon as this week, marking a significant step forward for the president’s top domestic priority. Senate leaders will then merge it with another bill, from the Senate health committee, before taking it to a vote on the Senate floor….

Boehner: Medicare Advantage *WILL* be cut, <200k *WILL* be taxed…

Courtesy of Rep. Boehner:

In an interview on Foxs Your World with Neil Cavuto, House Republican Leader John Boehner (R-OH) discussed the costly government takeover of the health care system that includes a litany of new tax increases, over $500 billion in cuts to Medicare for millions of seniors and the Obama Administrations recent gag order designed to keep seniors in the dark about the potential reductions in Medicare services. Leader Boehner once again called on the President and Democrats to scrap their costly proposal and work Republicans to create a bipartisan bill that improves the current system.

Update: Video – GOP wants gag order removed; CBO tells Senate panel Humana is right & TOTUS is wrong (lies?!): Medicare Advantage benefits will be reduced under Baucus Bill…

Doug Elmendorf still hanging tough and telling the truth. I love this guy. He says today yes Medicare Advantage benefits are likely to be reduced. Gee guess Humana is in good company with CBO on their mailer then aren’t they? CMS and HHS better back the hexx off Humana then.

“It is wholly inappropriate for insurance companies to mislead seniors regarding any subject—particularly on a subject as important to them, and to the nation, as health-care reform,” Mr. Baucus said in a statement yesterday, playing the role of Congressional censor. “The health-care reform bill we released last week strengthens Medicare and does not cut benefits covered under the Medicare program—and seniors need to know that.”

In fact, the Baucus draft legislation slashes $123 billion over the next decade from Medicare Advantage, which Democrats hate despite the fact that almost one-fourth of beneficiaries have chosen it over traditional fee-for-service Medicare. One reason seniors like it is because private insurers focus on quality and preventive care and try to manage benefits, as opposed to simply paying bills.

100 BILLION they plan to cut from Medicare Advantage. OF COURSE the plans will drop out and/or cut bennies. So no more eye exam or hearing exam for you Granny! Tell your Seniors!

AP:

Congress’ chief budget officer is contradicting President Barack Obama’s oft-stated claim that seniors wouldn’t see their Medicare benefits cut under a health care overhaul. The head of the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office, Douglas Elmendorf, told senators Tuesday that seniors in Medicare’s managed care plans would see reduced benefits under a bill in the Finance Committee.

The bill would cut payments to the Medicare Advantage plans by more than $100 billion over 10 years.

Elmendorf said the changes would reduce the extra benefits that would be made available to beneficiaries.

Health Care Update: AARP tosses Seniors unda da bus, ignores 600b in proposed Medicare cuts to pat Team TOTUS on the back for RX deal…

Update:  About that NYT CBS poll….see Ace for the scoop:

…Things must be really looking bleak on the government take over front given the NY Times’ need to dive even further in the tank for Obama than previously thought possible.

Over the weekend they came out with a poll saying everyone!!!11!! (well, 78% of Americans) supports “substantial changes to the health care system and are strongly behind one of the most contentious proposals”

That assumes you define “Americans” as people who voted for Obama since the NY Times poll substantially oversampled self-identified Obama voters….

So in a shockah to no one, the American Pharma Lobby has agreed to cut 80b over a decade in RX costs to Seniors enrolled in Medicare Part D, as part of their, ‘please take my wallet and dont hurt me’ strategy for dealing with TOTUS health care plans…

AARP actually stood beside TOTUS and said they were proud to be there today at the announcement, disgraceful, This as TOTUS proposes 600 BILLION in cuts to Medicare and a cap for Medicare growth that was VETOED by Big Dawg last time it reared its ugly head. It is rationing, period.

CALL YOUR CRITTERS. At MiM we support the Wyden-Bennett plan which will give vouchers to the poor and get them OFF Medicaid. If you are watching state budget debates you already know the growth in Medicaid is what will break the bank.
