Update: One Night Only! Dorgan & McCain LIVE from the Senate floor team up in support of the Drug Reimportation Amendment….

Update: Shows Added, lol! Even AP notes OBAMA is blocking this billions in savings for American consumers. Debate continues today:

A bipartisan group of lawmakers hopes to finally win a long struggle to ease curbs against importing low-cost prescription drugs but will have to overcome the Obama administration and the pharmaceutical industry to do so. The Senate was resuming debate Thursday on President Barack Obama’s drive to reshape the country’s care system. The most crucial work was being done behind closed doors, where Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., and his lieutenants were hunting support for a tentative deal among moderate and liberal Democrats to expand the government’s role in providing care.

As predicted Team Obama has SOLD US DOWN THE RIVER for Pharma and Billy frakkin Tauzin. The FDA released a letter OPPOSING the Amendment allowing the reimportation of prescription drugs for American consumers. Obama is AGAIN betraying a promise he made throughout the campaign. This is one of the single biggest cost saving expenses for Americans in their healthcare costs. The FDA has the AUDACITY to claim drugs coming from CANADA are not SAFE!! HA!! Dorgan and MAC teamed up in a great vaudeville style debate today, punching holes in the ridiculous FDA statement..

WSJ:

…Allowing importation of prescription drugs from a select few countries such as Canada, Ireland, and parts of Europe could lower prices in this country, and Dorgan has an amendment to the health-care bill that would legalize the practice.

Tuesday, the FDA blew a hole in his amendment. In a letter, FDA Commissioner Peggy Hamburg said importing drugs would be unsafe, too complex and too expensive. The drug industry has also opposed the practice, pointing out that Europe, which allows some importation, has problems with counterfeit drugs.

On the floor of the Senate today, McCain played the set-up man, lobbing rhetorical softballs for Dorgan. Here’s a much-condensed version of some of the highlights. Watch the whole thing yourself, starting around minute 270 in this C-Span video

McCain: Isn’t it true that a letter was written to one of our colleagues from the administrator of the FDA?

Dorgan: The Senator from Arizona is correct. They say “We don’t have the resources.” This amendment provides the resources for them. The people that are selling [imported drugs] will pay a fee.

McCain: It requires no additional funding from the taxpayer?

Dorgan: No additional funding from the taxpayer at all!

McCain: Could we say it would not propose any hazard to anyone’s health?

Dorgan: The countries that are involved in this amendment — and they are limited — are countries that have an identical chain of custody to our country.

On a roll now, Dorgan holds up two pill bottles and continues:

Both of these bottles contained Lipitor — most of my colleagues know what Lipitor is. And this was made by an American company in Ireland and shipped all over the world. This little bottle was shipped to the United States. This little bottle was shipped to Canada. What’s the difference? The price. The American consumer is told, guess what you get to do? You get to pay almost triple.

McCain: On behalf of the citizens of my state, I just want to say, thank you for your advocacy.

Will the real ‘party of the people’ please stand up?

This is where the Emperor would reveal to Luke that it was his plan to have him give in to the dark side…Can I laugh maniacally now as a 22 yr Dem, and reveal I am so so happy that Michael Steele and the GOP are protecting Medicare from cuts? 🙂

The GOP with a heart!

Ooh oooh like the Schooner Tuna commercial from Mr Mom!!! Where Teri Garr convinces the Tuna Exec to temporarily cut prices during the recession! Michael Steele and the GOP will temporarily stop tightening Medicare until after the recession? I’ll buy that for a dollar!

Can you imagine being a Dem Critter and praising Obama’s planned 600 Billion in Medicare/Medicaid cuts? I mean it is the height of hypocrisy on its face. They have been blowin smoke. If they believed all the crxp they sold we Dems for 22 yrs they should NOT be trying to implement Orszag cuts. Why the hell were we wailing about GW cutting Medicare? Why the hell did they have me calling the Hill about that if they felt like it was a good idea?

That has been my problem with the entire Obama neo-prog reasoning all the way down the line. Jason Fuhrman his economic dude loves him some Walmart which the Dem leadership told us was Teh Evil (TM). Then we had Austan Goolsbee telling Canada ixnay on the AftaNay renegotiation while Obama ran around the 57 states saying NAFTA killed gazillions! of American jobs and it was somehow Hillary’s fault. And their intellectual elitism and snobbery is NOT the blue collar Democratic party of my youth…

I couldn’t give a rat’s axx how sharp the crease in my POTUS pants leg is, David Brooks, you and your Kathleen Parker ilk are attracted to Team Obama precisely because they are like you, snobs. Arrogant and convinced of their righteousness and convinced of the ignorance of America at large. I will take GW’s brush clearing and Big Dawg’s peccadilloes any day over the Smartest Effetes in the Room…

And of course the piece de resistance is Orszag and Zeke Emanuel’s cost curves which are not Democratic plans IMO. They are something I am uncomfortable with, thus my recent move to the right…

And as always when I do something, I really do it 🙂

Bottom line is the GOP is fighting to save Medicare from DEMS who are trying to cut it and that tells me I am on the right track with my current support of the GOP. The party may change but the motivation I am looking for is who is looking out for the people and the nation. We are the Worrrrrldddd….oops my lib youth rearing its ugly head, LOL!

BWAAAAHAAAA!!!!! and Huh? but mostly BWAAAAHAAA!!We are through the looking glass, everyone needs to rethink where they have been standing IMO and go with the peeps best supporting American ideals, which at present is the GOP IMO…

Keep rockin me baby.

Update: GOP proposes Seniors Health Care Bill of Rights…

An update from Ed at HotAir in which the govt run VA incorrectly notifies 1200 vets that they have a terminal, incurable illness.  Yeah give the govt the power to make decisions on health care treatments and give them all our medical records. What could possibly go wrong? (Disclaimer my grandmother died of ALS, it is a terrible disease that literally strikes terror when you hear the diagnosis )

Righteous, take it to the net..

…Republicans want reform that should, first, do no harm, especially to our seniors. That is why Republicans support a Seniors’ Health Care Bill of Rights, which we are introducing today, to ensure that our greatest generation will receive access to quality health care. We also believe that any health-care reform should be fully paid for, but not funded on the backs of our nation’s senior citizens.

First, we need to protect Medicare and not cut it in the name of “health-insurance reform….

Second, we need to prohibit government from getting between seniors and their doctors….

Third, we need to outlaw any effort to ration health care based on age…

Fourth, we need to prevent government from dictating the terms of end-of-life care…

Finally, we need to protect our veterans by preserving Tricare and other benefit programs for military families….

IMO the best thing Steele has done since taking the chair….Please spread this around to all your loved ones…

The irony is of course the Dead performed for TOTUS and it is their gen of Baby Boomers who will get care rationed…witness the VA Your Life, Your Choices aka ‘they shoot horses dont they’ pamphlet…

Chuck Grassley (R-IA) Winterset, IA health care town hall: Opening Remarks…

Vodpod videos no longer available.

Courtesy of theGazetteOnline:

Iowa Sen. Chuck Grassley makes his opening comments at a town hall meeting in Winterset, Iowa, on Wednesday, Aug. 12, 2009.

Since Sen Grassley is the lead negotiator with Max Baucus (D-MT) on the Senate Finance Cmte I hope to God he means what he says in his opening remarks here. Clearly he knows what his constituents wanted to hear, let us hope he lives up to what he is saying.

Will post more video as it comes in…
