Tuesday Roundup: Final revision to 3Q GDP in: 2.2%, Lobbyists have record year, and Reid slips supermajority requirement into Medicare cost cutting panel…

Update: Darth Vadar just rang the opening bell, I kid you not. LucasFilm is there, I see Bobba Fett!

We started at 3.5%, and now at third and final revision we are down to 2.2% on 3Q GDP. I am still calling for a double dip, because yes the Obamanomic policies ARE that bad.

In other news as MiM has predicted lo these many months, the Reid Amendment has put a supermajority requirement on overriding the iMAB panel decisions. Harry actually asked ‘cant we all get along after this’ on the floor this morning after they passed round 2 of their partisan vote to GUT MEDICARE. ugh what a tool. He is feathering his next for his LOBBYING job post election defeat.

LOBBYISTS had their BEST YEAR EVAH under Obama’s HOPEY CHANGEY NEW politics, HA!

Some folks still think the Medicare cuts will not happen, THEY WILL. This Supermajority rule is how it will be accomplished. No calls to Congress will make an impact when a Supermajority is required to overturn iMAB rulings. Like an HMO with no right of appeal, that is what they are giving our Seniors (and by extension through the exchanges which will follow these roolz, we are ALL getting this shaft)

This is the Orszagist dream panel where non practicing physicians like the loons who just announced the mammogram revisions will GUT MEDICARE. IT WILL HAPPEN. TELL EVERY SENIOR YOU KNOW.

SS is next. Gird your savings GEN X, they are coming for us.

Healthcare Update: Democratic Sen Carper blocking Dorgan Amendment to allow reimportation of prescription drugs; Dorgan will block the healthcare bill without a vote on his amendment…

Gee I wonder who couldve asked Carper D-DELAWARE to block a vote on this amendment? You know who else likes DE? All the big credit card companies, all the big corps love to be listed there. DE is so nice to big business and big pharma. Scxrew you Carper, think of the TAXPAYERS for ONCE.

Delaware taxpayers please call your Senator and tell him if you would like to buy your life saving medication at the same price as Canadians. Carper has blocked this twice in a year now.

MAC makes it clear it is the WH deal with Pharma driving this. FDL incorrectly reports the WH supports this amendment and it is not part of the Pharma deal based on GIBBS of all people HA!!! I don;t believe it for a second, FDA has been promised the drug sellers will cover the safety protocol costs, it is in Dorgan’s Amendment. Tauzin NAMED this as part of the deal I betcha. Carper talked all about how important the deal was during markup of the Baucus bill when he blocked this amendment the first time.

FRAKKERS!!!!!! WE WANT A VOTE! Any Senator who claims to be voting for healthcare TO SAVE MONEY for taxpayers/consumers and votes AGAINST allowing Americans to buy their RXs from Canada is a fool. Let’s GET THEM ON THE RECORD. 2010 cannot come soon enough.

...The health care reform drive is in a holding pattern as Senate Democrats feud over an amendment that would allow cheaper re-importation of drugs from countries like Canada.

Sens. Byron Dorgan, D-N.D., and Olympia Snowe, R-Maine, together with 30 co-sponsors, introduced an amendment that would allow for an influx of cheaper prescription drugs from certain countries — all under tight Food and Drug Administration restrictions. Dorgan has fought for the change for a decade, and it was previously supported by President Obama when he was a senator and White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel when he was a representative.

But Sen. Tom Carper, D-Del., as well as at least one other Democrat, according to Dorgan, have put the brakes on any action on the amendment. It’s up to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid to settle the dispute in order to move forward on health care reform.

Carper defends his opposition by pointing to a letter he received earlier this week from the FDA laying out its concerns.

…But Sen. John McCain. R-Ariz., another co-sponsor, says he knows the real reason for the resistance. “We all know what this is about. We all know it’s the deal that Pharma cut … Come on, let’s not kid each other. It’s all about they made a deal with Pharma, and Pharma wants that deal to hold. That means no drug re-importation, no competition.”

McCain was referring to the deal the White House struck earlier this year with the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA). As part of it, the industry pledged an $80 billion reduction in costs and the administration agreed not to push for anything beyond that — meaning re-importation.

Dorgan, incensed by the block, told reporters he is prepared to hold up any action on health care reform over the matter.”I insist that we get our vote,” he said.

Reid, who according to an aide has not taken a position on the amendment, would then have to file a procedural move that takes 60 votes to overcome if he wants to move forward on his health care bill.

Dorgan said he has many new protections in the new version of the re-importation legislation and that the FDA’s letter “could have come from a copy machine,” arguing that the concerns were just copied from previous years. Dorgan accused Carper of not reading the amendment….

Update: One Night Only! Dorgan & McCain LIVE from the Senate floor team up in support of the Drug Reimportation Amendment….

Update: Shows Added, lol! Even AP notes OBAMA is blocking this billions in savings for American consumers. Debate continues today:

A bipartisan group of lawmakers hopes to finally win a long struggle to ease curbs against importing low-cost prescription drugs but will have to overcome the Obama administration and the pharmaceutical industry to do so. The Senate was resuming debate Thursday on President Barack Obama’s drive to reshape the country’s care system. The most crucial work was being done behind closed doors, where Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., and his lieutenants were hunting support for a tentative deal among moderate and liberal Democrats to expand the government’s role in providing care.

As predicted Team Obama has SOLD US DOWN THE RIVER for Pharma and Billy frakkin Tauzin. The FDA released a letter OPPOSING the Amendment allowing the reimportation of prescription drugs for American consumers. Obama is AGAIN betraying a promise he made throughout the campaign. This is one of the single biggest cost saving expenses for Americans in their healthcare costs. The FDA has the AUDACITY to claim drugs coming from CANADA are not SAFE!! HA!! Dorgan and MAC teamed up in a great vaudeville style debate today, punching holes in the ridiculous FDA statement..

WSJ:

…Allowing importation of prescription drugs from a select few countries such as Canada, Ireland, and parts of Europe could lower prices in this country, and Dorgan has an amendment to the health-care bill that would legalize the practice.

Tuesday, the FDA blew a hole in his amendment. In a letter, FDA Commissioner Peggy Hamburg said importing drugs would be unsafe, too complex and too expensive. The drug industry has also opposed the practice, pointing out that Europe, which allows some importation, has problems with counterfeit drugs.

On the floor of the Senate today, McCain played the set-up man, lobbing rhetorical softballs for Dorgan. Here’s a much-condensed version of some of the highlights. Watch the whole thing yourself, starting around minute 270 in this C-Span video

McCain: Isn’t it true that a letter was written to one of our colleagues from the administrator of the FDA?

Dorgan: The Senator from Arizona is correct. They say “We don’t have the resources.” This amendment provides the resources for them. The people that are selling [imported drugs] will pay a fee.

McCain: It requires no additional funding from the taxpayer?

Dorgan: No additional funding from the taxpayer at all!

McCain: Could we say it would not propose any hazard to anyone’s health?

Dorgan: The countries that are involved in this amendment — and they are limited — are countries that have an identical chain of custody to our country.

On a roll now, Dorgan holds up two pill bottles and continues:

Both of these bottles contained Lipitor — most of my colleagues know what Lipitor is. And this was made by an American company in Ireland and shipped all over the world. This little bottle was shipped to the United States. This little bottle was shipped to Canada. What’s the difference? The price. The American consumer is told, guess what you get to do? You get to pay almost triple.

McCain: On behalf of the citizens of my state, I just want to say, thank you for your advocacy.

Sen Arlen Specter (blows with the wind-PA) admits the 500 billion in Medicare cuts WILL happen

Specter admits that the Medicare cuts are REAL. All the neoprogs have been saying the proposed 500 billion in Medicare cuts are simply on paper for CBO scoring purposes and that Democrats don’t cut Medicare. This, despite the iMAC panel written into the stimulus and the health care bills in House and Senate. The panel that cut mammogram guidelines is mentioned by name in that legislation. Comparative effectiveness=rationing, period. I have not spent 22 years as a Dem defending Medicare only to support the Democrats transfer of health services from the elderly to the uninsured and low income and that is exactly what these bills do. Maybe these political hacks can live with themselves after leaving our Greatest Generation twisting in the wind, but I can not.

Remember this?

Here is a blast from the very recent past: Democrats ranting and raving and railing against GWB proposed Medicare cost cuts. I have no idea how these people can look themselves in the mirror every day:

WSJ:

…The Obama administration said Wednesday that it plans to cut Medicare payments for imaging services and specialists, and will use the savings to increase payments to physicians providing primary care.

Under the proposal, Medicare would put specialists’ payments for evaluating and managing illnesses on par with those of primary-care physicians starting in January…

…Payments to cardiologists would be trimmed by 11% overall, but certain procedures they perform would see steeper reductions. Alfred Bove, president of the American College of Cardiology, figured that cardiologists would receive 42% less for an echocardiogram and 24% less for a cardiac catheterization.

Radiologists would see an estimated cut of 20% for imaging services using expensive equipment such as MRI and CT scans, said Bibb Allen, chairman of the commission on economics at the American College of Radiology. That would be in addition to the cuts imposed on radiologists under a 2005 law, he said.

Canada rations cataract surgery. Panels are already denying drug coated stents in Washington state which has a plan like that proposed by Congress. In Britain, not only is their incidence of death from breast cancer much higher, they refuse to give women Avastin. They value your life at $45000 a year, more than that and they will not pay.

Newsflash, my insurance company has a 1 million dollar lifetime benefit max on me. I feel much safer with them. If they deny me I have RIGHTS OF APPEAL, ultimately as high as DOL for ERISA plans and State Insurance Commissioners for other plans. When a government panel, completely outside of the control of Congress (IOW immune from the ‘pressure’ of we pee-ons begging them not to deny our treatment) , decides women do not need mammograms or pap smears (currently covered at 100% by my ‘Cadillac’ insurance plan with no copay, as it is in most states ALREADY, its is called well-woman exams) we will have NO ONE TO APPEAL TO.

The Democrats have betrayed their biggest most loyal constituency, the elderly. (they threw women, their second biggest constituency, under the bus so many times in the past 2 years I have lost count).  2010/12 elections cannot come soon enough.

Will the real ‘party of the people’ please stand up?

This is where the Emperor would reveal to Luke that it was his plan to have him give in to the dark side…Can I laugh maniacally now as a 22 yr Dem, and reveal I am so so happy that Michael Steele and the GOP are protecting Medicare from cuts? 🙂

The GOP with a heart!

Ooh oooh like the Schooner Tuna commercial from Mr Mom!!! Where Teri Garr convinces the Tuna Exec to temporarily cut prices during the recession! Michael Steele and the GOP will temporarily stop tightening Medicare until after the recession? I’ll buy that for a dollar!

Can you imagine being a Dem Critter and praising Obama’s planned 600 Billion in Medicare/Medicaid cuts? I mean it is the height of hypocrisy on its face. They have been blowin smoke. If they believed all the crxp they sold we Dems for 22 yrs they should NOT be trying to implement Orszag cuts. Why the hell were we wailing about GW cutting Medicare? Why the hell did they have me calling the Hill about that if they felt like it was a good idea?

That has been my problem with the entire Obama neo-prog reasoning all the way down the line. Jason Fuhrman his economic dude loves him some Walmart which the Dem leadership told us was Teh Evil (TM). Then we had Austan Goolsbee telling Canada ixnay on the AftaNay renegotiation while Obama ran around the 57 states saying NAFTA killed gazillions! of American jobs and it was somehow Hillary’s fault. And their intellectual elitism and snobbery is NOT the blue collar Democratic party of my youth…

I couldn’t give a rat’s axx how sharp the crease in my POTUS pants leg is, David Brooks, you and your Kathleen Parker ilk are attracted to Team Obama precisely because they are like you, snobs. Arrogant and convinced of their righteousness and convinced of the ignorance of America at large. I will take GW’s brush clearing and Big Dawg’s peccadilloes any day over the Smartest Effetes in the Room…

And of course the piece de resistance is Orszag and Zeke Emanuel’s cost curves which are not Democratic plans IMO. They are something I am uncomfortable with, thus my recent move to the right…

And as always when I do something, I really do it 🙂

Bottom line is the GOP is fighting to save Medicare from DEMS who are trying to cut it and that tells me I am on the right track with my current support of the GOP. The party may change but the motivation I am looking for is who is looking out for the people and the nation. We are the Worrrrrldddd….oops my lib youth rearing its ugly head, LOL!

BWAAAAHAAAA!!!!! and Huh? but mostly BWAAAAHAAA!!We are through the looking glass, everyone needs to rethink where they have been standing IMO and go with the peeps best supporting American ideals, which at present is the GOP IMO…

Keep rockin me baby.

Big Pharma is frakked: Reid (D-NV) latest to say he is ‘not bound’ by WH drug deal; says he will use reconciliation if necessary…

BWAAAAHAAA!!! The sheer STUPIDITY of Billy Tauzin in believing ANY deal this WH cut with him is in full display yet again..if these maroons do the 150m ad buy to back Obamacare they are serious schmucks…

O’Jays courtesy of Dansaaid

See our previous posts on Tauzin and the deal only he and his bosses at big Pharma were stoopid enough to believe would stand here.

At this point, IMO, it really does not matter if Reid is obfuscating to his constituents to avoid telling them they did a ‘smoky room, closed-door!’  deal with Teh Evil ™ lobbyists and now seniors can’t negotiate RX prices or reimport RXs from Canada, (which was one of TOTUS main promises in the campaign), or if Reid and Congress really have an ‘understanding’ with the WH to either a, pretend they wont be bound by WH agreements, or b, be bound but act like they’re not. The bottom line is nothing Reid says is IMO believable or trustworthy. So of course none of us trust these guys to remake our health care…Vote him out NV!

Politico:

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said Friday that he was not bound by a controversial deal negotiated between the White House and pharmaceutical companies, telling thousands of Nevada voters on a conference call that “I have not agreed with anybody to do that.”

The drug industry told the White House this summer that it would cut future drug costs by $80 billion in exchange for assurances that any health care legislation would prevent the government from negotiating for lower drug prices. As a result of the deal, the industry is bankrolling an ad campaign touting Barack Obama’s health care overhaul.

But Democrats in Congress have balked at the agreement. “I’m a Democrat in the Senate, and I haven’t agreed,” Reid told a caller…

And of course in his usual TACTFUL way Reid reminded everyone that Teddy is gone and said he would use reconciliation, he also said, I kid you not, “there is nothing to pay for” in the public option?!?!? Wha??

…”There really is nothing to pay for,” Reid said of a public option. “It is an entity to set up to keep the insurance companies honest. There would be some small administrative costs.”..

Reid said that if Democrats can’t get bipartisan support, they would move the bill through the fast-track budget process, which cannot be filibustered. He said that is not their preference, but he predicted that three-quarters of the bill could be passed that way.

“Sen. Kennedy as you know is dead,” he said adding that with ailing West Virginia Senator Robert Byrd frequently absent, “We need Republican help, that’s why a bipartisan bill is important.”

Well now their failure is due to death and illness I see. Maybe next he will whip out a note from Epstein’s Mother…

Update: GOP proposes Seniors Health Care Bill of Rights…

An update from Ed at HotAir in which the govt run VA incorrectly notifies 1200 vets that they have a terminal, incurable illness.  Yeah give the govt the power to make decisions on health care treatments and give them all our medical records. What could possibly go wrong? (Disclaimer my grandmother died of ALS, it is a terrible disease that literally strikes terror when you hear the diagnosis )

Righteous, take it to the net..

…Republicans want reform that should, first, do no harm, especially to our seniors. That is why Republicans support a Seniors’ Health Care Bill of Rights, which we are introducing today, to ensure that our greatest generation will receive access to quality health care. We also believe that any health-care reform should be fully paid for, but not funded on the backs of our nation’s senior citizens.

First, we need to protect Medicare and not cut it in the name of “health-insurance reform….

Second, we need to prohibit government from getting between seniors and their doctors….

Third, we need to outlaw any effort to ration health care based on age…

Fourth, we need to prevent government from dictating the terms of end-of-life care…

Finally, we need to protect our veterans by preserving Tricare and other benefit programs for military families….

IMO the best thing Steele has done since taking the chair….Please spread this around to all your loved ones…

Grateful Dead courtesy of SmellsLikeReason; FOX courtesy of patriotsandheroes

The irony is of course the Dead performed for TOTUS and it is their gen of Baby Boomers who will get care rationed…witness the VA Your Life, Your Choices aka ‘they shoot horses dont they’ pamphlet…
