Sestak Shenanigans: It was Big Dawg, in the library?, with a non paying advisory panel role…

sigh. WSJ has it, hell everyone has it, the Big Dawg is involved.

My understanding of the law is that it is fine to offer someone something for PAST service, (such as Sestak gave HRC by endorsing her in the 08 primaries), but not a quid pro quo for something going forward, but Big Dawg apparently parsed in his very Clintonian way and it was an unpaid advisory panel role Sestak might be offered should he stay in the House.

You know who is probably really pixxed? Blago that’s who.

An interesting factoid as the pundits keep reading the US Code that applies, they cover one that says no sitting official can interfere in a primary etc etc, well go pick up Nancy Pelosi cause she had her sticky hands ALL OVER our Dem primary!

So now Dem pundits are raising Reagan’s guy offering a sitting Senator something etc etc.

Issa R-CA can keep pushing but Big Dawg can parse like nobody’s business and I think they will be wasting their time. Leave the Clintons aloooooooone.

Pelosi has Dems walk the plank: files Health Care Bill, plans vote for Saturday; while Reid in Senate has not yet prepared a merged bill…

This must be what the other animals feel like when they are watching the lemmings run off the cliff. I mean what the hexx are they doing?! Walking the plank?! Virgin suicides?! Kamikaze mission Pelosi has these House members on.

Bloomberg:

Undeterred by Republican election triumphs in Virginia and New Jersey, Democratic leaders put the U.S. House on a path to vote as early as Saturday on the most sweeping overhaul of health-care policy in four decades.

…Party leaders signaled they’re ready for the House to begin debating the legislation and vote on its final passage by filing a 42-page amendment that made last-minute changes to the bill. The filing last night triggered a 72-hour waiting period that Democrats pledged to give Republicans before a vote….

…House Rules Committee Chairman Louise Slaughter said Democratic leaders planned a vote for Saturday on the legislation. The leaders wanted a ballot before taking a recess next week.

The Senate does not even have a bill, and she is forcing her members to vote. Reminds me of cap and trade vote they did which is also dead in the Senate though Boxer is flailing about at it in empty rooms….

…The Senate is still considering its own version of the legislation, and House lawmakers said they weren’t concerned about the possible delay of a vote in that chamber until early next year. Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid suggested yesterday that the goal of passing a bill this year may slip into the 2010 election year….

Nov 2010 will be so much fun! First the pain of suffering through the continued job loss and high taxes and strangling regulation and government intrusion under Team TOTUS and the Pelosi Reid cabal of dunces, which totally sucks, but then we will have the midterm elections and we can call the bill due.

…In the past, some House Democrats voiced reluctance to move forward until the Senate was ready to act. “That die has been cast” by Pelosi’s decision to start the debate this week, said Florida Democrat Allen Boyd, a member of the Blue Dog Coalition of self-described fiscally conservative Democrats.

“I knew in August that people were concerned about the bill,” Boyd said. “Whether my feet are cold or hot” about voting without the prospect of quick Senate action “doesn’t make a whole hell of a lot of difference,” he said.

Another Democrat, freshman Maryland Representative Frank Kratovil Jr. said he is more concerned about the cost of the $1 trillion legislation and still hasn’t decided how to vote. “The House is going to move forward,” he said. “If that were the issue, leadership wouldn’t have brought it to the floor.”….

I recommend someone get a small business loan right before the 2010 midterms and fund a moving van rental company around these fools office buildings.

Unemployment Extension: Blue Dogs talk tough on second stimulus…

10/23 See Update https://moderateinthemiddle.wordpress.com/2009/10/23/unemployment-update-senate-cloture-vote-on-unemployment-extension-next-tuesday/

Oh boy, some of the Dems are getting in touch with their fiscal conservative side and are talking down the second stimulus, which is a good thing except for the fact that it unfortunately appears to include the UE extension…

If they would just agree to use the unspent stimulus money people would be getting their checks put into the mail already, arrrrgle!!!

Here is Nancy after her economic panel talking big about more job creation measures, but see the blurbs from The Hill this morning below…

Vodpod videos no longer available. The Hill:

…“I think we have just got to get serious about the deficit,” said Rep. Gerry Connolly (D-Va.), the president of the class of freshman Democrats. “I would have to really be persuaded of a dire situation and one that’s getting worse, frankly, to have any enthusiasm for a second stimulus.”

Rep. Baron Hill (D-Ind.), a co-chairman of the 52-member Blue Dog Coalition, said he would have to hear a “very compelling” justification for further adding to the deficit, even for the sake of fostering more job growth. “My constituents, I think, have had it with spending,” Hill said. “And I concur with their sentiments.” Republicans are targeting Hill’s seat in the 2010 cycle.

While the ingredients for another stimulus have not been finalized, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) on Wednesday made two things clear: Additional stimulus measures are needed, and Democrats will add to the deficit to pay for them.

Each of the economists who spoke to reporters following the session said everyone in the room had signed off on a strategy of temporarily ignoring the budget deficit for the sake of economic recovery….

Hill said the Blue Dogs have not talked formally about their collective approach to further economic patches embraced by the White House, ranging from unemployment insurance extensions to $13 billion worth of one-time Social Security checks…

Twofer Tuesday: Twilight Zone style for Nancy Pelosi who tells Charlie Rose ‘a VAT tax is on the table’

Golden Earring courtesy of lin1968

It’s official, Nancy Pelosi is in the Twilight Zone. She told PBS last night a VAT tax is on the table (The Hill):

Pelosi, appearing on PBS’s “The Charlie Rose Show” asserted that “it’s fair to look at” the VAT as part of an overhaul of the nation’s tax code. “I would say, Put everything on the table and subject it to the scrutiny that it deserves,” Pelosi told Rose when asked if the VAT has any appeal to her.

The VAT is a tax on manufacturers at each stage of production on the amount of value an additional producer adds to a product.

Pelosi argued that the VAT would level the playing field between U.S. and foreign manufacturers, the latter of which do not have pension and healthcare costs included in the price of their goods because their governments provide those services, financed by similar taxes.

“They get a tax off of that and they use that money to pay the healthcare for their own workers,” Pelosi said, using the example of auto manufacturers. “So their cars coming into our country don’t have a healthcare component cost.

Gee, wonder why Nancy is raising AUTO MANUFACTURERS, the PENSION LIABILITIES and a VAT TAX now? Could it be b/c GM has ALREADY BURNED THROUGH THE 50B in taxpayer dollars and the UAW cannot meet their pension obligations? Could be rabbit could be…

“Somewhere along the way, a value-added tax plays into this. Of course, we want to take down the healthcare cost, that’s one part of it,” the Speaker added. “But in the scheme of things, I think it’s fair look at a value- added tax as well.”

Pelosi said that any new taxes would come after the Congress finishes the healthcare debate consuming most lawmakers’ time, and that it may come as part of a larger overhaul to the tax code.

Everyone got that? As soon as they are done ramming healthcare through they will lay a VAT tax on our axxes. Everyone is registered to vote for 2010 right?

“The segments of intro divide the different seasons. All episodes are in order in which they first aired (instead of production order), I believe, except Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge which is purposely put last, just because I thought it was more climactic at the end (I’m used to seeing it at the end of the Zicree guide also!)”

Who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of men? The Speaker knows: Pelosi finds the villain of the piece…

Dems miss the SELF-imposed August recess deadline on health care reform. Who, who can be to blame!? Not the Dem leadership, not TOTUS, but who? The Shadow Nancy knows, BWAAAAHAAAAAA Muhuuuuhaaaaaaaa!!!

Of course, they’ve been immoral all along,” she added. “They are the villains in this, they have been part of the problem in a major way. They are doing everything in their power to stop a public option from happening and the public has to know.. They have had a good thing going for a long time at the expense of the American people and the health of our country.”…

See AP at HotAir for more.

This is the opening of The Shadow, played by the legendary Orson Welles. This episode is “The Circle of Death”, which originally aired November 28, 1937. It’s only fitting that this is being played over my 1936 Zenith console radio you see. This was given to me by a friend, and I have restored it to working condition. Hope you enjoy it!

Update: Rush on the old and new media – Dallas 7/23 – Sen Cornyn office: ‘How a Local Rally For Obama’s Health Care Proposal Turned Into a Rally Against It’…Tucson 7/17 Rep Giffords Tea Party 400+…

It’s working, although the jackaxxex are calling we CONSTITUENTS spam! What nerve! FRONT PAGE of POLITICO:

An anti-health care reform Web site has published the names of moderate Democratic chiefs of staff in the House — spawning a Spam tsunami inundating inboxes with more than 500 emails since Wednesday, according to aides.

Energized by Nancy Pelosi’s claim she had the votes to pass health care reform, blogger “just a conservative girl” penned a “Dear Fellow Patriot” letter to readers asking them if they could “please [be] joining us in emailing the Chiefs of Staff of the following moderate to conservative Democrats?”

She then published the names and emails of 55.

“I’ve been dealing with these since yesterday… it’s clogging my inbox,” said one chief of staff, less peeved than amused.

The emails range from ALLCAPS:

PLEASE DO NOT VOTE FOR THIS DISASTROUS “HEALTHCARE REFORM” BILL.
PLEASE DO NOT DESTROY THE VERY FABRIC OF THIS COUNTRY.
PLEASE DO NOT BE MANIPULATED INTO SELLING ITS CITIZENS OUT FOR A SOCIALIST AGENDA.
PLEASE DO NOT FORCE AMERICANS TO BECOME ENSLAVED AND IMPOVERISHED
PLEASE- PLEASE PLEASE
LISTEN TO THE CITIZENS WHO WORK TO PAY YOUR SALARY. NOT THE ONES WHO REFUSE TO WORK.

To the partisan:

PS – Ask your congressperson to remind the President that the financial problems we have are not just those of the former President. I seem to recall that for the 2 years prior to the current President, we had a democratic majority in both house of congress.

To the politely persistent:

Being the Chief of Staff for a Congressional Representative is a thankless job. In this position, you clearly have the ability to lean on your Representative to vote in-line with what the American people need and want.

RightWingCzar sums up the presser for us:

Update DallasObserver Via Instapundit: Sheer Awesomeness.

Local MoveOn.org members had penciled in on today’s schedule a protest in front of Senator John Cornyn’s Spring Valley Road office, during which they had hoped to pressure the senator to support President Barack Obama’s public health care legislation. But when Paula Anderson, a MoveOn.org member and spokeswoman, showed up at 11:30 a.m., she found another contingent had beat her to the proverbial punch: A large number of Dallas Tea Party members were already set up, voicing their opposition to the proposal.

Anderson was stunned: “We really did not expect them to show up.” She estimated the crowd at about 130. “From our perspective we took names of everyone there, and we had about 30 people,” she told Unfair Park. “And I would assume they maybe had 100.” As it turned out, according to Jessica Sandlin, Cornyn’s Texas press secretary, Tea Party-hearties also showed up to health-care legislation rallies in Austin and in San Antonio; after the jump, you’ll find a statement from the senator concerning the day’s events.

Meanwhile, the person who organized the opposition in Dallas, one Q Coleman, a Tea Party member, estimated the crowd swelled to at least 200. “The vast majority of people here didn’t want this,” Coleman said. “We beat them 10 to 1. … We all agree that health care needs reform. We’re just opposed to the government taking it over.” (Sandlin writes in an e-mail to Unfair Park that “I think there were about 200 people in attendance — 20 of whom were affiliated with Moveon.”)…

Please try to attend a rally over the August recess …TeaPartyPatriots and MM have resources posted…

It is best if you email the Congressional members that are in your state and/or in your specific district.  In the email ask the Chief of Staff to certify that their Member will NOT vote for the Health Care bill.  You can your state the reasons why this bill is not a good bill for Americans.

Be sure to let the Chief of Staff know who you are in your community whether you are a stay at home mom, a small business owner, or a community leader and the impact of the government take over of our health care to your organization (loss of jobs, increased taxes, etc.).

Thank you so much for helping us further the causes of fiscal responsibility, limited government, and free markets. We promise we will slow down on the amount of emails to you once Congress is in recess.

Tier 1: Conservative to Moderate Democrats who are on Energy and Commerce in the House

If  Energy and Commerce does not vote the bill out of Committee, then it will force Speaker Pelosi to bring the bill to the floor of the House without the Committee’s approval.  Politically, this does not look good for Speaker Pelosi because she will be ignoring the will of her committees. Please remember to record the number of emails, faxes, and calls you are making.

The calls you have been making this week are having an impact.  Unfortunately, it seems that our voices are simply not quite loud enough.  Speaker Pelosi has said that she has the votes to move the Health Care bill.  So, we have to step it up a little bit more.  Will you please join us in emailing the Chiefs of Staff of the following moderate to conservative Democrats?

The local media is starting to report on the groups who DO NOT WANT more debt loaded onto us…it is snarky and at the very end but they still reported it….progress :0)

Houston Chronicle:

…In front of the Wortham Center, activists offered their own greetings to those attending the speech.

“Turn back while you still have the chance! Don’t support the liar!” Doug Audirsch, of Porter, shouted while hoisting a sign over his head that called for “Less 1984 — More 1776.”..

Most of those making their way through the gantlet (MiM here pretty sure they mean gauntlet, as if 600 peaceful Americans is like the Clint Eastwood film lol) seemed to take the jeers and catcalls in stride. Some of the attendees blew kisses, while at least two made obscene gestures to the activists.

“I think they were probably prepared for this,” said Paul Kelver of Spring with a laugh. “She’s so far away from mainstream American that it’s unbelievable.”

Police estimated the crowd at 600. Houston Police Department officials at the scene said there were no reported incidents or arrests.

KHOU.com gave the protest top billing, oh yeah baby. Video at their story as well…

Hundreds of protesters showed up outside the Wortham Theater in Houston to let House Speaker Nancy Pelosi know they weren’t happy with Washington.

Protesters held signs saying they were upset with the stimulus plan. They also called for tax cuts, spending cuts and a major change in congress.

“You look at the deficit we’ve put together to date and it’s not good. What’s coming over the next 10 years if people have to pay down this debt? It’s more than their mortgage payment. How can we continue to afford this spending?” said Tim Graney from Katy.
