Update:Marc Faber, Dr Doom, agrees with MiM; Christina Romer on stimulus bump in GDP; 3Q GDP in up 3.5%;Market Mover Thursday: 3Q GDP 8:30am EST..

UPDATE: Well! The original Dr Doom Marc Faber himself agrees with MiM’s analysis of the GDP and even uses the drunk analogy we used! Go read the whole thing!:

(…)Faber pointed out that there is currently a tug-of-war between the government and corporations and consumers. The government is pushing corporations and consumers to increase leverage, while they try to reduce borrowing in the wake of the financial crisis, he said.”If you have a drunk and he is drunk, you try to solve his problem by giving him more … this is role of the government. In my opinion this worked very badly,” he said…

…Bernanke only ever targets core inflation, Faber pointed out. But that strategy misses the point and it was the main cause of the current crisis, he said.

“How many people in this room can live without food and energy?” he asked a packed conference hall at the World Money Show. “Maybe at the Federal Reserve,” he added….

Reminder of the stimulus impact on this number and its return to zero in 2010 courtesy of Calculated Risk by way of Team TOTUS itself:

From Christina Romer, Chair, Council of Economic Advisers in Testimony before the Joint Economic Committee: From Recession to Recovery

In a report issued on September 10, the Council of Economic Advisers (CEA) provided estimates of the impact of the ARRA on GDP and employment. …

These estimates suggest that the ARRA added two to three percentage points to real GDP growth in the second quarter and three to four percentage points to growth in the third quarter. This implies that much of the moderation of the decline in GDP growth in the second quarter and the anticipated rise in the third quarter is directly attributable to the ARRA.

Fiscal stimulus has its greatest impact on growth around the quarters when it is increasing most strongly. When spending and tax cuts reach their maximum and level off, the contribution to growth returns to roughly zero. This does not mean that stimulus is no longer having an effect. Rather, it means that the effect is to keep GDP above the level it would be at in the absence of stimulus, not to raise growth further. Most analysts predict that the fiscal stimulus will have its greatest impact on growth in the second and third quarters of 2009. By mid-2010, fiscal stimulus will likely be contributing little to growth.
emphasis added

The impact on GDP will be smaller going forward, and according to Dr. Romer, the impact will be around zero by mid next year, and will be a drag later in 2010 (as stimulus is reduced).

Update: El Rushbo on shenanigans with the stimulus job numbers:

Courtesy of therightscoop

Update: Diane Swonk on CNBC notes 1.7% of this GDP came from Clunkers. Rick Santelli agrees with MiM, it is a number driven by inventory builds and clunkers, it is less than 2% in reality and it is unsustainable without govt spending…GDP is important in part because it traditionally means you know JOBS. this is NOT a job creating GDP recovery number, this is a head fake, 4Q will have the homebuyer tax credit bump too, 1Q 10 2Q 10 are the real ones to watch and ONLY if the govt STOPS the Keynesian spending which IS NOT WORKING, THERE ARE STILL NO JOBS!

zombiebull

Ride Zombie Bull Market Ride!

Update: Data in: 3Q GDP up 3.5% (clunkers, home credits, inventory builds,) MiM is still predicting a double dip, we are right on schedule…UE claims higher than expected…I predict a slew of speeches from Team TOTUS patting themselves on the back for what is IMO a fake number driven by government intervention with ridiculous spending programs like clunkers and homebuyer credits. When they are producing  jobs and actual sustained durable good orders and retail sales THEN I will call it a recovery.

But we will be forced to listen to TOTUS patting himself on the back for a while first, ugh. And when it collapses AGAIN (I predict the double dip in  1Q or 2Q 2010 depending when the WH runs out of spending programs as the bond vigilantes force rates higher and the Fed either wakes up and tightens or lets hyperinflation kill the consumer) will TOTUS then re-blame GWB?

-FOX is reporting taxpayers spent 24,000 per frakkin clunker, unreal (Edmunds.com). FOX notes the Govt waits one hour after GDP release to talk about it so enjoy your TV while you can, lol.

CNBC:

The U.S. economy grew in the third quarter for the first time in a year as consumer spending and investment in new home-building rebounded, data showed on Thursday, unofficially ending the worst recession in 70 years..

..Initial claims for state unemployment insurance declined, though the number was higher than expected, to a seasonally adjusted 530,000 in the week ended Oct. 24, the Labor Department said. Analysts polled by Reuters had forecast claims to fall to 521,000 last week from 531,000.

The Commerce Department, in its first estimate of third-quarter gross domestic product, said the economy grew at a 3.5 percent annual rate, the fastest pace since the third quarter of 2007, after contracting 0.7 percent in the April-June period.

The growth pace in GDP, which measures total goods and services output within U.S. borders, was above market expectations for a 3.3 percent rate. The economy last grew in the second quarter of 2008…

Update: Enzi, Grassley say no deal from GOP Cmte members before recess; Progressive Caucus revolts against Dem leadership on deal Waxman cut with Blue Dogs; Reid blames the media for the August deadline, and Nancy ratchets up class warfare again…

harry-reid-incompetence

Update 4: the ‘blame the media’ is (un)Official Policy says I. Gibby used it today at the presser and tried to make it a joke. Reid AND Gibby make it clear the media is the fall guy for the latest failure in TOTUS Town…

Update 3: No agreement on health care from GOP Cmte Members per Grassley, Enzi. In other news the Dems are really losin it, Harry Reid is BLAMING THE MEDIA now !! Yes! He says the MEDIA created the August deadline. Guess he missed TOTUS and Gibby laying out August every other hour…

Reid said reporters created a fictitious deadline of a successful vote by the August recess, and downplayed the fact that the chamber won’t meet that mark.

“That is a deadline that you created,” Reid told a group of about 75 reporters. “It’s not like we don’t have a product. Significant progress has been made … The mere fact that this wasn’t done by last Friday or by five o’clock doesn’t mean we’re not going to get a quality product.”

And MiM has speculated here often that the reason TOTUS wanted it done BEFORE August is b/c the WH has been holding back the updated economic projections, (usually released mid July) showing the projected deficit. Obviously he wanted the healthcare deficit adding budget busting plan pushed through BEFORE anyone got a good look at what the deficit will be BEFORE they add on this mondo spending…yep.

Pelosi is raving against the EEEEEvil Insurance Companies now, looking to gin up that good ole’ standby, Class Warfare. It worked so well with Wall St and the EEEEEvil bankers and AIG  (at least until Dodd got hoisted by his own petard having approved those bonuses himself, frakker). AP at HA has the details on Nancy’s ravings….

And in other fun for Nancy and Harry, the Progressive Caucus within the Dem majority is now in open revolt against the leadership for the deal Waxman cut with the Blue Dogs...the CBC has been throwing down the race card left and right, noting that the Energy Cmte Blue Dogs are all white men, and claiming the Blue Dogs are betraying the 20-40% of their constituents who are black. Seriously. Well, Nancy and Harry let the race card fly left and right against Hill in our primaries, so like I say live by the race card, die by the race card..karma baby..

…At one point, Carolyn Kilpatrick (D-Mich.), a former Congressional Black Caucus chairwoman, expressed outrage that conservatives would insist on significant cuts and a weakening of the public option, arguing that many of the Blue Dogs were letting down their black constituents, who make up 25 percent to 40 percent of their voters, in some instances….

…The intraparty dispute had racial overtones. One African-American Democrat, Representative Hank Johnson of Georgia, pointed out that the seven Blue Dog Democrats holding up the health care bill in the Energy and Commerce Committee were “a nondiverse group” of white men….

Nancy tried to push back on this conflict today:

…As to claims that Democratic leadership sold out progressive, African-Americans and Hispanic reps by negotiating a side deal, she responded: “Might I remind you that the progressives are represented on committees of jurisdiction in a very strong manner. Might I remind you that the progressives are chairmen of those committees — progressives have been well represented.”…

I hope everyone tries to get out and attend the AUGUST 22ND RECESS RALLY with the Tea Party Patriots!!!

Update: Rush on the old and new media – Dallas 7/23 – Sen Cornyn office: ‘How a Local Rally For Obama’s Health Care Proposal Turned Into a Rally Against It’…Tucson 7/17 Rep Giffords Tea Party 400+…

It’s working, although the jackaxxex are calling we CONSTITUENTS spam! What nerve! FRONT PAGE of POLITICO:

An anti-health care reform Web site has published the names of moderate Democratic chiefs of staff in the House — spawning a Spam tsunami inundating inboxes with more than 500 emails since Wednesday, according to aides.

Energized by Nancy Pelosi’s claim she had the votes to pass health care reform, blogger “just a conservative girl” penned a “Dear Fellow Patriot” letter to readers asking them if they could “please [be] joining us in emailing the Chiefs of Staff of the following moderate to conservative Democrats?”

She then published the names and emails of 55.

“I’ve been dealing with these since yesterday… it’s clogging my inbox,” said one chief of staff, less peeved than amused.

The emails range from ALLCAPS:

PLEASE DO NOT VOTE FOR THIS DISASTROUS “HEALTHCARE REFORM” BILL.
PLEASE DO NOT DESTROY THE VERY FABRIC OF THIS COUNTRY.
PLEASE DO NOT BE MANIPULATED INTO SELLING ITS CITIZENS OUT FOR A SOCIALIST AGENDA.
PLEASE DO NOT FORCE AMERICANS TO BECOME ENSLAVED AND IMPOVERISHED
PLEASE- PLEASE PLEASE
LISTEN TO THE CITIZENS WHO WORK TO PAY YOUR SALARY. NOT THE ONES WHO REFUSE TO WORK.

To the partisan:

PS – Ask your congressperson to remind the President that the financial problems we have are not just those of the former President. I seem to recall that for the 2 years prior to the current President, we had a democratic majority in both house of congress.

To the politely persistent:

Being the Chief of Staff for a Congressional Representative is a thankless job. In this position, you clearly have the ability to lean on your Representative to vote in-line with what the American people need and want.

RightWingCzar sums up the presser for us:

Update DallasObserver Via Instapundit: Sheer Awesomeness.

Local MoveOn.org members had penciled in on today’s schedule a protest in front of Senator John Cornyn’s Spring Valley Road office, during which they had hoped to pressure the senator to support President Barack Obama’s public health care legislation. But when Paula Anderson, a MoveOn.org member and spokeswoman, showed up at 11:30 a.m., she found another contingent had beat her to the proverbial punch: A large number of Dallas Tea Party members were already set up, voicing their opposition to the proposal.

Anderson was stunned: “We really did not expect them to show up.” She estimated the crowd at about 130. “From our perspective we took names of everyone there, and we had about 30 people,” she told Unfair Park. “And I would assume they maybe had 100.” As it turned out, according to Jessica Sandlin, Cornyn’s Texas press secretary, Tea Party-hearties also showed up to health-care legislation rallies in Austin and in San Antonio; after the jump, you’ll find a statement from the senator concerning the day’s events.

Meanwhile, the person who organized the opposition in Dallas, one Q Coleman, a Tea Party member, estimated the crowd swelled to at least 200. “The vast majority of people here didn’t want this,” Coleman said. “We beat them 10 to 1. … We all agree that health care needs reform. We’re just opposed to the government taking it over.” (Sandlin writes in an e-mail to Unfair Park that “I think there were about 200 people in attendance — 20 of whom were affiliated with Moveon.”)…

Please try to attend a rally over the August recess …TeaPartyPatriots and MM have resources posted…

It is best if you email the Congressional members that are in your state and/or in your specific district.  In the email ask the Chief of Staff to certify that their Member will NOT vote for the Health Care bill.  You can your state the reasons why this bill is not a good bill for Americans.

Be sure to let the Chief of Staff know who you are in your community whether you are a stay at home mom, a small business owner, or a community leader and the impact of the government take over of our health care to your organization (loss of jobs, increased taxes, etc.).

Thank you so much for helping us further the causes of fiscal responsibility, limited government, and free markets. We promise we will slow down on the amount of emails to you once Congress is in recess.

Tier 1: Conservative to Moderate Democrats who are on Energy and Commerce in the House

If  Energy and Commerce does not vote the bill out of Committee, then it will force Speaker Pelosi to bring the bill to the floor of the House without the Committee’s approval.  Politically, this does not look good for Speaker Pelosi because she will be ignoring the will of her committees. Please remember to record the number of emails, faxes, and calls you are making.

The calls you have been making this week are having an impact.  Unfortunately, it seems that our voices are simply not quite loud enough.  Speaker Pelosi has said that she has the votes to move the Health Care bill.  So, we have to step it up a little bit more.  Will you please join us in emailing the Chiefs of Staff of the following moderate to conservative Democrats?
