Update: No go for Sheriff Joe..

Update: Sheriff Joe will not run for Governor, he is keeping his Sheriff badge and enforcing our new law..maybe the 5th time will be the charm…

AZCapitolTimes:

Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio announced that he will not run for governor, once again ending Arizona’s election-year tradition of the sheriff flirting with the state’s highest office….

…“I am humbled by the encouragement and outpouring of support for me to run for governor. However, at the same time, so many people have supported my campaign for reelection that I do not want to betray them by running for another office,” Arpaio said in a press statement. “I have come so far and accomplished so much in the past 18 years as sheriff that to leave now just doesn’t make sense.”…

William Jefferson (former Rep. D-LA) gets 13 years for bribery

Vodpod videos no longer available.]

Breaking on Fox

Prosecutors wanted the 62-year-old William Jefferson, a Democrat who represented parts of New Orleans, to serve at least 27 years in prison while the defense wanted less than 10 years.

Jefferson said nothing in court after he was sentenced. He was convicted in August of 11 counts, including bribery and racketeering. Prosecutors at his two-month trial said he took roughly $500,000 in bribes and sought millions more. He was acquitted of five other charges, including the one most closely associated with the money in his freezer.

The investigation started in March 2005. In August of that year, FBI agents searched Jefferson’s Washington home and found the cash. Prosecutors said he had planned to use the money to pay a bribe to the then-vice president of Nigeria to secure a multimillion-dollar telecommunications deal there, an accusation Jefferson denied….

This seat is held by Rep J Cao now, (who may be a RINO but who seems to be an honest man who loves America and is serving the wishes of his 76% Dem constituents, and all without stealing from people!)

Update: CNBC reports Lewis to step down by end of year; Cuomo/BofA Smackdown: It’s On! (again)

Update 09/30: Charlie Gasparino is reporting that Ken Lewis has been pushed out (the stmt says he stepped down but I call BS)!! This is HUGE! WOTS was he had TOTAL BACKING OF THE BOARD! Recall BofA is centred in Charlotte, NC far from the Wall St shenanigans but Lewis got sucked into the ‘eeeevil banker’ canard PLUS the added bonus of ‘hide the bonuses’ with Thain. I for one would never want Andy Cuomo on my trail if I had a blessed thing to hide!

(Reminder FD- MiM are shareholders in both BofA and were MER shareholders as well pre merger)

CNBC:

Bank of America’s CEO Ken Lewis, the embattled head of the nation’s biggest bank, told the board he plans to step down by the end of the year.

Lewis wasn’t asked to step down and the decision was not the result of any regulatory action, sources told CNBC. No successor has been named yet….

Update: Sunday Chatter: Kent Conrad (D-ND) and Sebelius both back off public option: the Federally funded co-op is now the term of choice…(and with Federal Funds it will still kill private insurance)

Update: Monday 8/17: Just like the Clash, Team TOTUS is unsure if they should stay or go on public option lol, they are releasing spin via Ambinder (who failed to get their ‘townhalls folks are hurting the GOP side’ meme to take effect, but not for lack of trying on his part, lol), that Sebelius ‘misspoke’, then another WH aide, off record OF COURSE! said no she didn’t misspeak, the MEDIA misrepresented what she said..uhm yeah okay go with that…YOU CANNOT TRUST ANYTHING THESE GUYS SAY PEEPS…GET IT IN WRITING BIG PHARMA, Dumb bunnies…..

An administration official told Marc Ambinder that HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius “misspoke” when she told CNN that a government run health insurance option “is not an essential part” of reform.

“This official asked not to be identified in exchange for providing clarity about the intentions of the President. The official said that the White House did not intend to change its messaging and that Sebelius simply meant to echo the president, who has acknowledged that the public option is a tough sell in the Senate and is, at the same time, a must-pass for House Democrats, and is not, in the president’s view, the most important element of the reform package.

See you at the RECESS RALLY!!!!

And it means nothing because we can trust them about 1/4 as far as we can throw them, although I think I could throw them pretty far….especially if we started with Jaeger shots…(just sayin’)….but it is a sign of cracks in the facade of happy changey hopey dopey land….

Conrad has been pushing co-op but FEDERALLY FUNDED so it is in effect a frakkin PUBLIC OPTION…maroons…

If they want small groups to be able to pool risk and premiums go with Multiple Employer Trusts which I used to process claims for in TX, this way small business gets group rates, NO PUBLIC MONEY REQUIRED….

Free interstate insurance commerce from Federal red tape! ….geez it would be simple were they not trying to Trojan Horse a single payer plan through wouldn’t it? Wyden-Bennett would work….but NO CO-OP GOVT PLAN BY ANOTHER NAME…frakkers…

TheHill:

A public health insurance option took more hits Sunday as Sen. Kent Conrad described its pursuit as a “wasted effort” and an administration official said it is not an “essential” part of reform.

Conrad (D-N.D.), who supports setting up health insurance co-operatives with government seed money to compete with private insurers, described the public option as all but a lost cause.

“Look, the fact of the matter is there are not the votes in the U.S. Senate for the public option, there never have been,” Conrad said in an interview on “Fox News Sunday with Chris Wallace.”  “So to continue to chase that rabbit is, I think, a wasted effort,” Conrad said.

His comments followed Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius’s remark that a public option is “not the essential element” to ensure competition in the health insurance market. Sebelius made the remark on CNN’s “State of the Union,” according to a report in the Associated Press….

Gee, TOTUS has been saying ad nauseum that the public option IS necessary to do just that, ensure competition. On which I call BS…

Question, if there is no yearly or lifetime claims max on people and you cannot pre-ex them or drop their coverage, how can you possibly have enough cash reserves from premiums and ROI (return on investments) to cover pending and potential future claims?

Sometimes you just gotta say…what the frak! This is London Calling….and they’re all drunk….

Newcastle Reveller (photo North News & Pictures)

I would suggest that the government of England introduce its citizens to saying/yelling ‘frak’ as a stress reliever, they seem to have an uhmmm…. aggression problem…

From ACE HQ, (looks like my dreams of retiring to England for a full pension someday are ‘up in smoke’ (or perhaps if they smoked instead of drank they wouldn’t be eh?, can we send Cheech and Chong on a humanitarian mission?):

From the Times:

Ambulance control centres reported receiving 999 calls as often as once every seven seconds – the second highest volume of calls since the Millennium – as binge drinkers turned nasty in the freezing temperatures.

Many of the calls related either to alcohol-fuelled assaults or excessive drunkenness.

Booze contributed to time-wasting calls to 999 operators too, with one man calling to ask if New York was in America, and what time it was there.
Elsewhere, while large numbers were ferried to hospitals, in some areas injuries were treated by paramedics in ‘booze buses’ to leave ambulances free for more serious emergencies.

In Essex, so many drunk people were arrested that all 200 of the constabulary’s cells were filled, and overflow revellers had to be shipped to neighbouring Kent to be held for the night…

ACE nails it, again:

If I can make a quick point: Europe forever flatters itself by contrasting itself — erudite, educated, prosperous, well-mannered, bourgeois — with America — drunken, stupid, fat, loud, obnoxious, and ill-informed….

Unlike the lower classes in Europe, whose idea of travel is hopping the ferry to start a drunken, blood-and-vomit-spraying riot in another nation’s soccer stadium.

The difference, apparently, is that the American lower classes believe they can prosper if they work and save — and they do so prosper — unlike the lower classes of Europe, which know they have, as the Sex Pistols sang, No Future. So why not spend virtually every night getting slosh-drunk at the pub?….

Exactly.  Next time London is Calling, I may let the machine get it..Yes these are the people who pulled the Mayflower over b/c they ran out of beer all right….
