Angels win 6-5 – ALCS goes to Game 6; ALCS Game 5 – NYY look to move on to the series!

Angels take it 6-5,. we go to game 6! a great series! Newsday Blog:

NINTH INNING: Angels 7, Yankees 6. FINAL SCORE

Top: You just knew this inning was going to get interesting, regardless. Even after Brian Fuentes retired the first two Yankees in order, you just knew something would happen.

And of course it did.

Alex Rodriguez was intentionally walked, Hideki Matsui walked and Robinson Cano was hit by a pitch. Then it came down to Nick Swisher vs. Brian Fuentes.

And of course you knew the count would go full.

So it came down to one pitch, and….

Swisher popped it up.

Angels win.

To Game 6 in the Bronx, we go.

ALCS – NYY destroy Anaheim Angels 10-1 in Game 4: Yanks now 1 game away from the series!!

WOOHOO!!!!

NYPost:

…Sabathia and Rodriguez — with help from Johnny Damon and Melky Cabrera — drove the Yankees past the Angels, 10-1, in front of 45,160 at Angel Stadium….

The victory, marred by two blown calls by umpires, puts the Yankees in a commanding, 3-1 lead in the best-of-seven series that resumes tomorrow night when A.J. Burnett faces Angels ace John Lackey.

…Long considered a player who was suffocated by the postseason attention and pressure, Rodriguez is shedding that label. He went 3-for-4, homered, drove in two runs, scored three and stole a base.

“I will say that in other postseasons I failed, sometimes miserably,” said Rodriguez, who has hit five homers this postseason, one shy of Bernie Williams‘ club record. “It certainly feels good to come through for my team and help my team win.”

Damon added a two-run homer in the eighth, and Cabrera went 3-for-4 and drove in four runs.

Through five innings Sabathia had given up a run and threw only 63 pitches. He allowed the first two Angels to reach leading off the sixth, but induced Juan Rivera to bang into a 6-3 double play and watched Howie Kendrick‘s liner land in Mark Teixeira‘s glove, getting him back in a groove that saw him retire the last eight hitters he faced….

Yankees win 4-3!! ALCS Game 2 NYY v Anaheim Angels…

Back to Newsday Blog I was too excited to type:

THIRTEENTH INNING: YANKEES WIN, 4-3.

Bottom: To steal a phrase from the late great Bob Murphy, the Yankees “win the damn thing.”

Of course it wasn’t your typical walkoff play, because this game was completely atypical in every which way.

With runners on first and second and one out, Melky Cabrera hit a grounder to the left of second baseman Maicer Izturis. The Angels second baseman fielded it cleanly, yet instead of simply getting the sure out at first base he spun and threw to second.

Of course the throw was wild and Jerry Hairston – who led off the inning with a single – scored easily.

Hairston was awarded the pie in the face from Burnett after the game, and it was a neat pie. Hairston saw Burnett coming, and Burnett stopped right when he got to Hairston. For a second there was nothing, but just when Hairston’s defenses were down Burnett pied him in the face.

So the Yankees fly to Anaheim tonight two wins away from their first World Series berth since 2003.

ALDS: Yankees!!!!!!

Yanks take Game 1 :  Yankees win 7-2, take a 1-0 series lead.

Game 2 on Friday, A.J. Burnett vs. Nick Blackburn, 6:07 p.m.

Yankees-Twins, Game 1  ALDS Live Blog here. Beginning the quest for Championship 27!!!!

‘Jeter’s two-out home run just inside the foul pole ties the score at 2. It was his 18th postseason home run.’ Bottom of seventh: Unstoppable A-Rod smacks a single off the rightfield wall to score Jeter. That’s three runs scored for Jeter and two RBIs for A-Rod.’

Derek Jeter sets new Yankee hit record!2722

WooHoo!

Courtesy of SuperFunnyComedy

NYDailyNews:

Derek Jeter is no longer the Prince of New York. He’s the Hit King.

The shortstop passed Lou Gehrig on the Yankees‘ all-time hits list on Friday night, singling against Orioles rookie Chris Tillman in the third inning.

Jeter was the center of attention from the moment the Yankees took the field, as the crowd waited out an 87-minute rain delay in order to witness history. Jeter received a loud ovation after catching a pop up to end the top of the first, then fans went crazy when he emerged from the dugout in between innings to prepare for his first at-bat.

Flahsbulbs popped continuously from the second he stepped into the batters box, as the crowd buzzed with anticipation. Jeter took Tillman’s first pitch for a called strike, then took a big hack at his second offering, falling into an 0-2 count.

Jeter took a ball, then fouled one back to the backstop, but Tillman caught him off-guard with a curveball, striking him out.

Jeter led off the third inning for his second at-bat, as Tillman started him off with a pair of balls. Jeter lined the 2-0 pitch past first baseman Luke Scott to move past Gehrig, a hit virtually identical to the one that tied Gehrig’s mark in the seventh inning on Wednesday.

The entire Yankees dugout emptied on to the field to congratulate Jeter, with Alex Rodriguez reaching him first, giving him a big hug. Each of Jeter’s teammates took their turn to show their support for him, then he acknowledged the crowd with a few tips of his helmet. Orioles players stood on the top step of their dugout, applauding Jeter for his accomplishment….

Economy hammers MLB: Yankees Reduce Ticket Prices…

for Mr MiM the 69 Mets:

Even on Steinbrenner budgets they can’t float empty seats in camera range..

Tix dropping and some free tix  going out! and all existing tix get a rebate too…

2500 going down to 1250..cough cough…not exactly the bonding experience for middle class families but hopefully some decent seats are still available for a reasonable price at the new stadium, we are incredibly lucky to have Cactus League Spring Training out here with nice cheap tix for a family day at the ballpark…
