Splash talks Deadpool and Ryan Reynolds with writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick (Zombieland)

I can’t wait for this one!!! Our previous posts on Deadpool and Ryan Reynolds here.

MTV-Splash!:

...“We’re outlining it pretty seriously right now,” explained Rhett Reese who — along with partner Paul Wernick — is red-hot after writing “Zombieland,” which just hit DVD. “We’re in the early stages.”

“We just absolutely adore the character and the comic,” explained Wernick. “And tonally, it’s right up our alley. He’s the unstable, smart-ass, self deprecating guy — and they say write what you know, so [we’re perfect for it].”…

…“What’s great about Ryan is that he’s been the keeper of the Deadpool flame for many years, he’s loved the character since forever; he lives it and breathes it,” Reese said of some of the specific ideas Reynolds has brought up to them. …

“The movie is going to kick ass,” Wernick said, confident of the end result of their collaboration. “It’s going to be great.”

“It’s not going to be your father’s superhero movie, or even your older brother’s superhero movie,” added Reese. “It’s definitely going to be irreverent and fun, and we owe a lot to that character, because it’s a wonderful character.”

Frakkin A! Perfect!

‘Deadpool’ Update: Fox signs ‘Zombieland’ team to write script..

Awesome!!! Our previous posts on the  Merc with a Mouth here. Our posts on Zombieland, including a ComicCon panel with the writers,  here.

Variety has it:

20th Century Fox is making progress with its “X-Men” spinoff, “Deadpool,” and has tapped “Zombieland” scribes Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick to pen the screenplay…….There is no timetable on the Marvel property, though Reynolds has a window after wrapping the “Green Lantern” this summer.

Reynolds has been bulking up to play the DC Comics’ hero “Green Lantern,” which starts lensing next month. This means he would already be in superhero shape if the script for “Deadpool” is ready by summer.

Reese and Wernick, who wrote “Zombieland,” will stay true to the mythology of “Deadpool” given that Reynolds is a huge fan and protector of the property.

The tone of “Deadpool,” which features an antihero as opposed to the more traditional heroic comicbook protagonist, is very similar in tone to “Zombieland.”

Reese and Wernick, high school friends who began collaborating in 2001, most recently sold the pitch “Earth vs. Moon” to Universal Pictures. The pair penned a draft of “Venom” for Sony/Marvel….

Two men have found a way to survive a world overrun by zombies. Columbus is a big wuss but when you’re afraid of being eaten by zombies, fear can keep you alive. Tallahassee is an AK-totin, zombie-slayin badass whose single determination is to get the last Twinkie on earth. As they join forces with Wichita and Little Rock, who have also found unique ways to survive the zombie mayhem, they will have to determine which is worse: relying on each other or succumbing to the zombies.

SDCC ’09: Zombieland Panel and Trailer…

Courtesy of ClevverMovies:

Put Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, and a whole cast of nutcases in a movie about an amusement park jammed full of the walking dead and what do you have? No, not a dream I had after a meal of bad enchiladas, it’s Zombieland, a movie that proves that cities make weird names for people.

Columbus is the most terrified man on earth, and he’s made a history out of running from his problems. Tallahassee, meanwhile, prefers to beat his problems into bloody, quivering stumps. Put these two together in the midst of a zombie apocalypse and you’ve got a recipe for disaster…on the zombies. Check out the trailer.

So what’s your call, everybody? Romero goodness or cheap Fulci knockoff? We’ll get the chance to punch our ticket for Zombieland this October. Hit our comments section below and tell us your zombie survival secrets, and thanks for watching.
